BREAKING NEWS!!!Cuonzo Martin removes name from Marquette search

So is it possible that Martin just screwed himself? If the reports were true that UT might essentially be ready to move on (which I grant you may not be true), and Martin is calling their bluff, what if Hart says "Ok, well bye" and the talk about Marshall was legit?

U.T. is not going to buy Martin out, buy Marshall out, and then pay Marshall a big salary.

Then Martin will get a buyout and sit out a year of coaching, or find a job like Wake or BC.

Do you see Hart paying our entire staffs buyout, Marshall's staffs buyout and Marshall's salary?

I don't.

If he did it would be a major mistake on his part

NBA will draft off potential, they always have. His stock was almost the exact same last year. We can all agree that he was exponentially better this year than last, right? So what is staying another year gonna do?

Well for one, next years class will be exponentially weaker.

Question is now who will CCM interview with next? BC or Wake?

There are a few reasons why Stokes should stay:

1. He was exponentially better this year than last year, so he is improving as a player. If he had remained stagnant, then yea, he should go.

2. This is considered one of the deepest draft in the 20 years. Several players that would normally declare are going to wait it out another year.

3. He is a jump shot away from being a solid first round draft pick.

4. He is a young senior, so his age won't be held against him the the draft next season.

Your clairvoyance is uncanny. Everyone thought this draft class would be the best ever and now it looks rather pedestrian after many of the studs weren't exactly as good as expected.

You don't really believe this do you? Do you think Hart is going to can a HC that just went to the Sweet 16 for another HC that didn't and pay the new HC twice as much, which is about what it would take to get Marshall. C'mon man.

BTO, assuming Martin pulled his name, it was between WoJo and Howland, correct? Sounds like Howland is getting passed over quite a bit recently.

Points 1 and 3 go back to the thing about potential. Stokes has developed, but obviously not in a way that scouts think he would be worth a 1st round pick. If they thought he could develop a shot they would draft him and develop his shot.

3. I think this draft is above average in terms of the college players, but not special like we thought it would be.

4. I agree with.

Ain't going to happen. You guys are nuts.

Something still feels odd here. Not sure this whole thing is over just yet.

I agree BZ - I think this is far from over. It would not surprise me to hear/see CCM's name tossed around in connection with other jobs if for no other reason to try to leverage Tennessee if in fact he even wants to be here, which I doubt. It is business after all.

I agree with you for the most part, however demonstrating that you're a solid FT shooter should help your draft status. Now if next season he can demonstrate he's a solid 15' jump shooter I believe that would also be a feather in his cap.

If a prospect has never demonstrated an ability to shoot FT's or jump shots, then the NBA doesn't know if that potential exists. There are lots of examples of NBA bigs that still can't shoot a FT or jump shot with any degree of confidence. To me, an NBA scout would give Stokes a higher ceiling on his NBA potential if he was confident in both those skills.

If he believes that, I know who is screwy.

This class will be one of the best ever:

Jabari Parker
Andrew Wiggins
Dante Exum
Joel Embiid
Noah Vonleh
Julius Randal
Marcus Smart
Dario Saric
Willie Cauley Stein
Aaron Gordon
Clint Capella
Gary Harris
Doug McDermot
Nik Stauskas
Zach Levine
Tyler Ennis
Rodney Hood
Jusuf Nurkic
Cleanthony Early
Kyle Anderson
Adrian Payne
T.J Warren
James Young
Jerami Grant
Montrezl Harrel

All of these guys could be lottery picks in a normal year. The top 10 is really just a toss up right now.

Did that report earlier not say that Martin withdrew his name AFTER talking with AD Hart? That insinuates they are working on a contract to me fwiw

This. I would like to see Coach Zo back but it seems that either he doesn't want to be here (which who could blame him) or Hart doesn't want him here, at least long term. After all the Marquette talk, I fully expected at least an announcement today from the AD that a raise and extension has been agreed upon or that they would be working on one.
