BREAKING NEWS!!!Cuonzo Martin removes name from Marquette search

BS post and so full of wrong think and logical fallacy it's hard to know where to begin.

Real men, professionals in all walks of life, from time to time will take time to explore other options.

Trying to spin this as some kind of failure for whatever juvenile reasons you choose to make up is nuts.

you mam, are two steps beyond the insanity line.

I see the Martin foolishness has rubbed off on some fans as well. You guys are sticking up for a mediocre coach who just got turned down by another school after interviewing with them while still being under contract with UT? Now you are fighting for this guy to get an extension and a raise? Pitiful. :loco:

If stokes leaves and there is no transfer, what are your expectations for next year and if he doesn't meet them is Martin on the hot seat?

20+ wins and the NCAA tournament.

His seat will likely be hot again from the fans if he fails to reach that, but depending on the amount of any new buyout, not likely from the AD.

There is no spin. It is what it is. The guy wanted out of here. Had Marquette given him the job he would have taken it. The real spin starts now and how Martin tries to make it look like he turned them down, loves UT, etc.

you have no idea if he got turned down or just realized he wanted to be back at UT. You're just making up things to try and prove a point

coaches put their name out for open positions all the time and so do people working in the real world. Keeping yourself open is not a negative

He may have cashed at his peak. Just didn't need to leave to do it.

I agree, but it's likely if he is staying that he is on the hotseat again in 2 yrs, imo, based on the current roster. If I were him, I'd cash in somewhere else knowing I have maybe 3-4 years to get it going.

The range of emotions in this thread is hilarious. I'm not overly excited, but not disappointed either. Then again...I'm not as down on next year's team as many seem to be. I believe we should be competitive in the SEC and on the cusp of a tournament bid...even without Stokes or Rhett. Getting either one of those guys makes us a likely tournament team. Stokes staying, which is far more likely with Martin staying, would obviously raise expectations significantly.

All this being said...I'm not convinced Cuonzo is actually staying until we hear about an extension/raise.

I don't know if he was offered or not, but after going back and looking at all the stories about it, I didn't see any that said he was actually offered the job. It struck me as funny that Wojo would be interviewed so quickly. In our searches we pretty much went to a candidate, got a yes or no, then moved on to another. Seems most searches work that way. So Zo either turned them down Sunday in office or they didn't offer and wanted to interview Wojo first.

No more 35-32 games, blowout losses at home to unranked teams, and we make the NCAA tourney most every year!

We were going to extend his contract...he interviewed for a coaching vacancy...we're going to extend his contract...why are we letting the debate on this one?

He didn't just put his name out there, he went there and interviewed for the damn spot...lets be honest. Which is the more likely scenario? He got turned down or realized at the last second he wanted to be here? Would he not have thought about that before the interview? If the interview went badly and Martin didn't like Marquette, would he not have quickly taken his name out quickly after interviewing Sunday? Why did he "take his name" out late Monday night, the same day Wojo interviewed?

so what? I've interviewed for positions even when I have a job I like.

The last coach had his name floated for quite a few and had no bites. At least Cuonzo made it in the room

maybe he had a conditional offer but felt he needed to give Hart the last word. You're using things that you guess happened as fact to prove your point. Not really on solid ground with that

I'm using what is the more likely scenario. You are using the other and believing the spin.

Letting Martin go or canning the guy like the UT Firing Squad proposes is just too risky at this juncture. UT's track record of landing that nearly perfect, can't miss, and proven coaching commodity is not exactly that promising. Basically, he deserves a couple more years to build on this momentum. If it doesn't work out, we/he move(s) on and that's that.

But I just don't understand why people choose to blame Martin on *every* inconsistency this team went through this season, but conveniently choose not to offer him any credit either when it came to crunch time. This team played solid defensive-minded basketball and showed OBVIOUS improvement offensively.

It's funny that now after people begged to get rid of the guy, we now have people furious at him for interviewing elsewhere. Give me a break.

no you're simply using the one that backs up your hypothetical scenario. I've never said which one I believe

We all need to line up behind Coach Martin and give him our full support. This divisiveness only provides fuel to our competitors and serves no constructive purpose other than to tear the team down. While I might complain about how the team plays (which is normal for the most devout fans), the bottom line is that these young men represent the University of Tennessee, and Coach Martin has instilled values and commitment that is lacking in many folks today. In fact, they are more committed to UT and its well-being than many of the naysayers on this site!

I think most of the people upset are upset that Marquette didn't offer him the job, not that he interviewed for the position.

I don't see what's complicated about the situation. Guy coming off tournament run talks to people to create demand and leverage his current contract. It happens all the time. Pearl had the Pump brothers doing this for him multiple times.

Rebuilding? If Stokes comes back, we have a chance to be as good or better than this past season. Richardson may be more solid than McRae, who tended to be very inconsistent and took a lot of questionable shots, which Richardson does not tend to do. Hubbs will be back 100% and can take the role that. Richardson had this season. If we get the transfer from TSU, our frontcourt will actually improve if Stokes stays as Maymon's knees prevented him from being more than just a wide body under the goal. A lot of "if's" but a lot of possibilities than would not be considered " rebuilding"

I consider replacing Your point guard, your post, and your best wing player rebuilding especially considering what's behind them. Having to add a transfer from TSU to shore up the roster is indicative of the poor recruiting at the post position. Entering his fourth year should be his strongest year but many including myself question whether this team will be much better than a .500 team. Time will tell however. It's all speculation till this time next year. I personally have zero confidence next year will be even remotely as successful as this year was.
