BREAKING NEWS!!!Cuonzo Martin removes name from Marquette search

We all need to line up behind Coach Martin and give him our full support. This divisiveness only provides fuel to our competitors and serves no constructive purpose other than to tear the team down. While I might complain about how the team plays (which is normal for the most devout fans), the bottom line is that these young men represent the University of Tennessee, and Coach Martin has instilled values and commitment that is lacking in many folks today. In fact, they are more committed to UT and its well-being than many of the naysayers on this site!

Welcome back coach! Please excuse the clueless morons on this board.

the morons are the ones thinking a man of his character would leave butthurt because of an online petition.
He's gone, they said. Thanks petition signers, you guys say. Clueless commentary.

I hope everyone of these "were heading in the right direction" folks eat the biggest pile of crow imaginable. This hurts worse than anything UT basketball related since Izzo beat us in the elite 8

What kind of fan would say this? Wouldn't you be hoping you were wrong and that the team would be a huge fan? Not judging, just saying...

I am not excited about CCM coming back, but maybe this is the wake up call he needed to see what he was doing wrong and fix it.... It will be interesting to see how and if things change on his end in the coming months...

I was disappointed with how we were losing games we should be winning earlier in the season. I even posted I thought they might be in real trouble and not win many games. But you had to take a wait and see approach. Guess what I saw? A team that got it figured out and played their butts off winning the last three or four games of the season, won a round in the SEC and played what we knew would be a Final Four team in FLA very tough. Then lo and behold they won three games in the NCAA tourney and went to the Sweet 16! Say it folks, Sweet 16. Yes, we "could have" beaten Michigan but, when you get to the Sweet 16, pretty much all bets are off. You're playing against the top teams in country and it could go either way. So, in three years, we got back to the Sweet 16. Might have been a little ugly getting there, but at least we got there and had a real shot at the Elite 8 if not for some questionable officiating. And the Sweet 16 is NOT mediocre.

Huh? Is somebody upset CCM is still our coach? I'm talking about all the doomsday posters on here.

All I can say is, I hope all the armchair coaches on this board submitted their resumes to Dave Hart.

Sometimes I'm just flabbergasted at how vicious people get over this stuff. The guy isn't the greatest X's and O's coach, but he motivated our players towards a pretty unexpected Sweet 16 run and deserves more time. I think the football mediocrity we've been stuck in for the past several years has poisoned people against every other sport our athletes compete in and they just want someone to lash out against.

  • Our men's basketball team just fought valiantly in the Sweet 16
  • Our lady's basketball team just lost in the Sweet 16
  • Our softball team is #2 in the country
  • Our men's baseball team has been in the Top 25
  • Despite our absolute mediocrity in football, Butch Jones just landed a Top 5 recruiting class in the nation. We're the only team in the Top 10 recruiting that had a losing record last year.

If you're "highly upset" over Cuonzo being our coach again next year, I can only assume that you prefer our program to be in flux, in chaos, and perpetually stuck in a cycle of coaches so that you have something to talk about.

Welcome to the board. :hi:

Doomsday to some is reality to others. If Stokes leaves, we have no post game for the next 2-3 years. We still have no proven shooters, pg or rim protector.

I was simply pointing out how the moronic crybabies were guaranteeing he was gone and it was due to the fans, which is the view of an immature mind not ready to analyze what happens in the real world outside of anonymous message boards.

If CM coaches how he is capable, I'm fine with him staying. If he is going to coach 1 good game out of every 4-5, I'm fine with him looking elsewhere. Personally, I don't know why he would not cash in at his peak as I don't see him long term here. It's not where he is from, not where his recruiting ties are, and fans won't put up with 1 tourney visit every few years.

He may have cashed at his peak. Just didn't need to leave to do it.

I might be wrong but I think CCM is a loyal man. I believe he loves it at TN. I'm like you, I don't think he pays any attention to the criticism from clueless fans. I have questioned his coaching at times during games but he knows the system he is trying to instill. Three years is not enough time to judge his ability. We made the sweet 16 this year. Enough said!

Well if he is staying, lets all hope he learned something from this run in the tourney...we will definitely find out next year what kind of coach he is, ESP if Stokes leaves.

Also, enough with the "he is a good guy" crap...I want a winner, not a mediocre coach who is a good guy...I don't spend my money to see mediocrity every year. Besides, this is the only BBall I watch, it would be nice if it was entertaining.

The only thing that made the sweet 16 run unexpected is that it looked like we weren't going to make the tourney at all due to massive underachieving this season.

It didn't turn me 180. I don't think CCM is the guy still. But I am not 100% on that. I want to be 100% sure before firing the guy. I saw some things that I like. When I said he should be fired, I also thought UT would miss the tourney. They did not.

And I had no faith that UT would have hired a good replacement had he left.

My thoughts exactly. I'm glad Martin is staying.

I gotta say, this has been pretty high comedy. Too bad UT's basketball future is wrapped up in "Coach" Martin's bumbling and stumbling. I see that basketball is not the only area this guy has problems with in the closing minutes.

Seriously, UT has Martin by the short hairs now. You don't get on that plane and take that interview if you don't think you have a great shot at getting that job. Now he comes back to Hart with his tail between his legs. If I'm Hart I let him dangle in the wind while I flirt with a few coaches who are heads and tails better than Martin.

Also, Marquette had to be like 2 drinks away from signing Martin...instead they sobered up. Damn the bar tender for cutting them off.

This was the best thing for the program at the time.

Give him an extension and let him succeed or fail on his own terms with no excuses as to know what we got.

I disagree. Going to be hard for Martin to win back the fan base now. Especially if next year goes how everyone thinks it will. He has been given time to succeed or fail. The results have been pretty average.

The best thing we can do is can the guy and move on.

Maybe the bartender should cut you off...let's be real here are there better coaches than Martin? Yes. Would UT go after them if CCM left? No. Be happy with what you got.

If stokes leaves and there is no transfer, what are your expectations for next year and if he doesn't meet them is Martin on the hot seat?
