Our Conference

Welp, getting into the playoffs just got a lot harder.

No it didn't.

The SEC's reputation would have allowed 2 teams in no problem this season.
I see no way the bias continues down the road after watching this. All of those top 25 teams the SEC was fielding is a joke. Looking back now and seeing Miss St/Ole Miss ranked #1 is hilarious. They're not even top 10.

No, and it doesn't even make sense why you're saying/bring this up here. There wasn't another team this year in this conference that should have been eligible for the playoffs, come regular season end.

Had the committee added Miss St. in because "well, they're an SEC team" this championship setup would be even more broken than the last.

Only way we're ever getting in is by winning the SEC.

I honestly can't believe there some on here that are bummed that Bama lost. I was laughing my arse off when Ohio State got that last pick to se4al the win.

A bummed Kiffin and Bama equals a happy Vol here nation.

instead of who ?

Exactly,

OSU and Oregon proved they deserved to be there. So are people saying Bama shouldn't have been or FSU?

FSU was the defending national champs that hadn't lost a game in 2 seasons. Realistically you could not keep them out of the playoffs.

Do Not Care.

Saban lost, Kiffin lost, Bama lost, there's a gnashing of gums in the state of Alabama today.

It's a particularly great day to be a Vol fan.

CORRECTED... I THINK...

OK, I may have missed some games, if so forgive me... it's late...

Before Ohio St. beat Bama, and FSU got stomped by Oregon, I was looking at the argument between the Big 10, ACC and SEC when looking at the best performing conferences to date in the bowls.

Between those three, it came down to the SEC and Big10 with the Big 10 having a slight edge. But with Ohio St. beating Alabama, it's all theirs regardless of what happens in the Sugar Bowl.

SEC has 6 teams in top 25 bowls while Big10 and ACC both have 5 teams in top 25 bowls. The Big 10 and the SEC both have 5 bowl wins to 4 for the ACC. Big 10 has 3 top 25 bowl wins to this date vs SEC and ACC's 2 (Although 1 of which ACC was the only ranked team in the game). But Wisconsin has 2 head to head Ws over Alabama and Auburn. Additionally, they have a HUGE W in Michigan St. over Baylor. I just dont' know who the SEC has that could match up well with Michigan St. Maybe Missouri, but that's a stretch in my opinion. The ACC won the only head to head ACC vs. SEC game being Georgia Tech's convincing W over Mississippi St. That loss and blowout of Ole Miss, just makes the SEC look weaker (granted they apparently are missing a LOT of players due to injury?). Still, the SEC is looking to end with a better conference record than ACC. Even though the SEC doesn't have a top tier bowl win, their record makes them look better from top to bottom.

So, the Big 10 takes the cake this year, then the SEC and then the ACC. Unless SEC Tennessee and Florida throw their bowls and the ACC wins their last bowl...

Is Maryland in the ACC ( AND ) the Big 10 now?

instead of who ?

OSU based solely on them being #3 the week before the final weekend of the season. The committee really shouldn't put out standings each week. Obviously not having a conference championship hurt them. I also posted this before OSU beat Bama so may I retract?

They really shouldn't put out a weekly ranking if it's really just as fluid as the last few weeks of the regular season showed.

Only one of those was a slight upset

ACC is good conference this year and last year. They are coming on stronger with power teams such as FSU, Georgia Tech and Clemson. It's getting very competitive, and I like that.

So much for Bama. The SEC has had less than spectacular results this bowl season. Hope that doesn't carry over to our game tomorrow.

We actually could go 7-5 to ACC's 5-7 and Big 10's 5-4 (If TN beats Iowa). You could argue the big 10 only had 9 in, so that isn't fair, but who else in the big 10 would you have sent to a bowl game that didn't go?

If SEC wins both of their bowl games today, I just think this year goes to show we are a very solid conference throughout. We have a lot of very young teams who are rebuilding in the SEC. It was a down year at the top, we were a touchdown away from being in the national championship, and Auburn and LSU barely lost their bowl games.

Who gives a rip? The absolute best thing I've seen concerning "conference loyalty" is this, "Rooting for Bama b/c they're in the SEC, is like pulling for Lucifer b/c he's in the bible!"
To hell with everyone else in our conference, it hasn't made us any better the last 7 years because all our rivals have been winning NC's, and I'm sick of seeing/ hearing about conference loyalty. I grew up with the mantra My two fav teams...tn and whoever plays bama, screw the rest, forever and ever amen! GBO!!!

What I find great about the playoff as well is that had there not been a playoff then FSU and Bama would have played for the BCS Championship while Oregon and OSU would have been out of the mix.

Pretty much.

Here’s What The Final BCS Standings Would Have Looked Like | College Spun – Social. Local. Consumable. College Sports.

It would have been close, but FSU would have gotten it by about .15.

(Of course, the problem with looking at it like everyone did with these kinds of simulations is that the old BCS formula required the Coaches and Harris Poll rankings, and since the CFP rankings started coming out, the human polls had been gradually changing their rankings each week to mirror those of the CFP committee.)

I hope this is right. Let the debates begin!

Personally, I think Big 10 is the clear winner with the big W over Alabama, Baylor and 2 head to heads over SEC. SEC has no top tier wins and only 1 head to head W over the big 10 where they were heavily favored. If anything, Big 10 is better at the top and SEC has a more winning middle. Still, gotta give the top of the BIG 10 the nod.

It's hard to tell at all how good the Pac 10 is, because they were favored in all but 1 of their bowl games and only put in 8 teams. They had 3 top 25 teams playing unranked teams, which makes me want to give SEC the edge with 12 teams in and a possible 7-5 record. Looking at the first 2 playoff games, I would have liked to have seen TCU take on Ohio St. and Oregon take on Alabama. I have a feeling it would be TCU and Oregon in the finals, Oregon with the slight edge. Sorry ACC, your record was not so good, and your top team was crushed. You all are very close though, as Florida State, Clemson and Georgia Tech are all very good teams. Georgia Tech beating Georgia head to head. But I think Georgia would beat Clemson again, Georgia Tech would lose to Missouri and Alabama would beat Florida State fairly easily. The rest of the SEC is stronger than the rest of the ACC and the bowl records indicate that.

Bama could be on fire and I would not even hesitate to contemplate voiding on that worthless state. Georgia...ehh.. I just want to beat em. Florida...I got way too many spring break memories to hate on their beaches, but I sure would like to kill some gators since we haven't in a decade. I got respect for Spurrier and Malzahn. Besides that, I don't ride the "sec" bandwagon. I am a Volunteer and bleed orange!
