Jim Dandy, Black Oak Arkansas

But change the lyrics to "Joe Milton to the rescue"

Yep, and don't forget "Down the Field". The Original UT Song.
“Down the Field” is played just as The Pride marches off the field at the very end of pre-game. It’s arguably one of the best fight songs in the nation, and it rarely gets played. I believe it is still our official fight song.
It’s what the “T” opened to, coming out of the East locker room, all those seasons ago.

It's also the fight song of Yale University (written in 1904 by two students). The P.O.T.S. Band has made it famous, however, & the arrangement by the great Barry McDonald is still played at UTK.

If you recall or watch the videos of the games in the 80s and even 90s (and of course before) I think Down The Field was played more than Rocky Top, which overtook it in the 90s iirc.

Rocky Top is so in the heads of the teams we play and their fans and so iconic that I would never want it supplanted. But Down The Field should always be played, too. But DTF is more a big play song, not a 3rd Quarter song.

I can remember as a kid "playing" down the field with our voices when we were talking about an upcoming game. Da da da da da da... 🎶

Our son was in the P.O.T.S. Band 1998-2002 & his senior year he had the "clicker", keeping count of every time the band played "Rocky Top". Forget the final total, but was over 1.100 times (football, basketball, parades, etc._) Easy to see why many think it's the Fight Song, but it's still D.T.F.

Recently it’s been “friends in low places”. Gosh, I have no idea why that was chosen but I’m tired of low places. I was there for 15 yrs. We’re not there now. Time for a new song.

I’ll nominate one of 2:

1). The way I talk- Morgan Wallen
2). Back where I come from-Chesney.

I know some here don’t like KC, ok but he’s a Vol fan and better than GB on his worst day. Way I talk has the amazing line “louder when I’m cheering on the Volunteers”. Can we agree on that one?

Too many artists are Vol fans to play a song from a guy from Ok State
I at least am fully in favor of axing "Friends in low places," and for the reason you cite.

We still come out of the T to Down The Field.

Is it crazy to propose a Tennessee vocalist like Tina Turner or Aretha Franklin? With the stadium location: Rolling on the River? Or Respect or Rock Steady. Good vibe, upbeat classics.

I like those ideas. Also, Sam Cooke’s peppy version of The Tennessee Waltz has been played in Neyland before. I like it:

It's a dark song, but I've always wondered how Metallica: Enter Sandman would go over, especially at an evening game....
