Zakai Zeigler suing for 5th year

There is a downstream negative effect to granting unlimited eligibility to college players because they can’t let go of the NIL. High school athletes are about to get screwed to infinity
This isn’t unlimited eligibility. This is 5 years flat instead of 5 to play 4 with a bunch of loopholes and unevenly applied waivers. It’s a massive simplification of the system and it’s happening next year regardless of this lawsuit.

just the beginning. The next lawsuit will be for unlimited eligibility and non student status. Wait and see

Now hold on there Ace. There ain’t much call for 70 year old point guards but I’ve still got eligibility. With a running start, I can jump over the free throw line.
You got room on your squad for a same age 5-10 power forward? Lost a little of my hops but replaced it with bulk for underneath the basket.

The athletes need to first become employees of the schools. When that happens unlimited eligibility and no longer requiring athletes to be students will follow. Then at some point college athletics goes the way of NASCAR. Far fewer tickets being sold and games are simply TV content.

I would expect schools to move to a business model of leasing out their stadiums, arenas, and other facilities to for profit entities that manage the teams. Licensing of the branding as well. Hopefully most of that money makes its way to support the purpose of the educational institutions instead of only enriching coaches, players, and administrators.

Simple question…

Why should Devan Cambridge or Myles Stute be getting an extra year and Zeigler shouldn’t? Both have played more career games.

What do those situations have to do with ZZ?

I respect ZZ a ton but what is his special circumstance that merits another season? If it’s purely for financial or because he really likes playing college basketball, then sorry, but that’s not a valid reason. Move along.

Thanks. Truth hurts sometimes.

Love the melt down on Ruppp Rafters how ZZ and UT are ruining college athletics by seeking a 5th year. Like the mercenary one year player concept Kentucky perfected is great for college sports.

His reason is fairness, equality for earning potential…why should players who have played more games than him and more years than him be getting yet another year and he shouldn’t, that’s the point.

Sorry. You get 4 years to play. Covid was a special one off situation and any records set with that fifth year have a massive asterisk.

Let's not destroy college athletics. If not five, why not six, seven, ten? This is silly.

The 5 years is probably going to pass. So, the only class that won’t benefit is this year’s senior class unless ZZ prevails.

It makes the uneven rulings so much easier when you give everyone 5 years.

I like Zakai but what a stupid lawsuit. You played 4 years. You graduated. You missed some time to injury but not anything enough to medically qualify.
Move along and let the next wave of athletes play ball. Everything good must come to an end.
This is exactly why people dislike the current landscape. I know ZZ loves UT and deserves to make money but it’s not like he was cheated at all during his time. It’s tiring seeing all these 4 or 5 year players fighting for more eligibility .
I feel like such a boomer whining about it. I wish I could have played ball longer too and made nil money but my ship sailed just like ZZ’s has too.
Agree completely. He had four great years. Now he's trying to take a spot away from someone else.

Games played per season:

35
30
36
37

He played four years. Keep it moving, Z
He didn’t play four “full” years like you said though. He missed the 2023 post season.

Again, the 5 years is going to pass by the NCAA soon. This really isn’t even up for debate except for when it will happen.

Why wouldn’t you want arguably the best point guard we’ve ever had BACK on the team? That’s a little crazy. He’s not “trying to take a spot”. He wants to win a natty with his coach and his team. Stop trying to villainize him. This school means more to him than we could understand, i don’t fault him at all for trying to come back and : win a natty, make some money, have some fun. Also, there’s spots available, so he’s not taking someone’s spot

Sad it if happens. College is a four year deal. The redshirt year makes sense. But giving five full years will just deprive athletes of opportunities. It will inevitably morph into guys getting 6-7 years (it already has).

Good point. The only way ZZ gets a spot is by the numbers going to 15. He really doesn’t take a spot.
