Zakai Zeigler suing for 5th year

I know alot will disagree. I don’t think he should be granted a 5th year. Diego Paris shouldn’t have been granted a 5th year either. You played your 4 years time to move on. Where does it end? Athletes will start suing for 6th, 7th, 8th year etc.
Athletes have been suing for 6,7,8 years, for years now. The possible new rule that grants a flat 5 across the board is the perfect happy medium, imo.

The basis of his argument is others WITHIN a 5 year period getting 5 to play 5. Of course an injury denied him 4 FULL years! How much could he earn in another March Madness?????

I would love to see a 2 point guard starting lineup :
Zakai Zeigler
Ja'Kobi Gillespie
Nate Ament
Jaylen Carey
Felix Okpara

We would 100% have our best team ever with a loaded bench. This would be an all around better more versatile version of the Chandler / Zeigler sec championship season. National Championship contention immediately and plenty of length off the bench and on the wing and frontcourt to make up for Kobi + ZZ

As I figured a few weeks ago, ZZ is way more valuable in college, particularly here, than any other option. 2-4 million sounds right for him. I'd hope it's here but I'm good with him getting it anywhere but Kentucky.

Kind of hilarious how Tennessee is always the first one looking to break new legal ground in the NIL/Portal era. We’re always the first to try and sue over something. University lawyers eating good with all those billable hours! Best job security in the country.

This would be incredible, in a vacuum, but assuming ZZ gets his fifth year, how does Kobi feel about this? I wouldn’t want to run him off for one year of ZZ, especially when Kobi would have 2 left. Definitely worse problems to have and it would be great if we can get everyone to buy into him being here, but I do wonder if there’s too many factors pushing him away, if he does get the extra season.

This is the 6.5 excitement depth piece? Just to clarify.
No, that was in relation to a commit I thought was coming. As I stated in the other thread I now don’t think that’s coming, at least anytime soon…there’s a lot of bad info floating around, various names etc, as I said I expect more roster additions but at this point unsure if they’ll be HS, 5th year, portal, guys currently signed elsewhere etc.

I know you and/or SF mentioned that ZZ coming back was likely something that wasn’t discussed with Kobi during his recruitment and was a “cross the bridge when we get there” type of issue. With ZZ coming out with this landmark lawsuit, wouldn’t it be logical that CRB has had the discussion with Kobi and his family at this point? Not sure if that’s something you know or can shed some light on, but something that would bring some clarity to it from the UT side.

Okay. Yeah, it’s all very confusing. I remember SF responded to TK saying he had also been hearing that we were in on a potential game changer player currently tied to another school, but now it’s hard to know if that was all BS info spread around or if that’s actually still something that could happen.

Honestly not sure

I think there’s truth to that statement, but don’t have a for sure name

So my rattled, simple fan brain had but a single question pop into it...why is he trying to get an additional year?

Did the draft prognasticators not have him going to a good place or very high?

I would think earning potential being drafted anywhere would outweigh what he would get through NIL next year...or I maybe wrong.

Yea, you’re very off base on that.

I like Zakai but what a stupid lawsuit. You played 4 years. You graduated. You missed some time to injury but not anything enough to medically qualify.
Move along and let the next wave of athletes play ball. Everything good must come to an end.
This is exactly why people dislike the current landscape. I know ZZ loves UT and deserves to make money but it’s not like he was cheated at all during his time. It’s tiring seeing all these 4 or 5 year players fighting for more eligibility .
I feel like such a boomer whining about it. I wish I could have played ball longer too and made nil money but my ship sailed just like ZZ’s has too.
