Really there just aren’t that many high level coaches out there to get. That’s why you do see a fair amount of coordinator hires. UGA’s last 2 hires have been coordinators and both have been HRs. Stoops to OU, Herman to Texas if you want another current one. Sometimes you do have a Saban situation where he was proven at one power 5 and succeeded at another, sometimes you have someone like Meyer who succeeded at a non-power 5 (Utah was not power 5 at the time), and sometimes you have a coordinator hire that works like Richt. The proven power 5 coach moving from one program to another with success at both is probably the most unlikely of those scenarios though.
I really think the hesitancy with Pruitt is everyone is worried about having another Muschamp (the Florida Version).
To me Pruitt is a fundamentally sound coach. There will be growing pains as “his guys” will be young and playing and he is a first time coach.
It’s hard to explain it but I feel a lot better about him and our team compared to when I saw the team in Butch’s first year.
