It's funny that people think Cena is a result of marketing and WWE can push anybody to the top. There's a pile of guys that couldn't get over despite WWE's best efforts.

How over is Cena though? He's booed by half the audience when it's not intended. He gets some form of X-PAC heat anywhere he goes.

I listens to Austin's podcast on Fast Lane and he said while he believes the crowd wasn't great, he thinks the acoustics hurt the perception on TV.

You're acting as if he's the only guy that is biased against Cena. I mean we are talking about a "top guy" that comes out to lots of boos in every city. Getting a lot of boos when you're the top babyface is just ridiculous. To me, that's not exactly "greatest of all time" material.

If they truly didn't care about him, they'd take a restroom break, visit the merchandise booth or buy a hot dog. You think it's just a coincidence that he teeters the edge of having kids/females love him and males hate him so match they watch to see him hopefully lose? No, it's all part of the gimmick. And it sells. Cena sells it.

Yep, like when Punk came on, i went to piss.

You can be over it. Good for you. Doesn't discredit the major flaw in your fight.

Please don't take this wrong. I like you as a poster and think you are a smart poster to talk with but sometimes you can seem abrasive through a screen. I don't think that's your intent and I don't think you are a jackass but every once in awhile it can seem that way. I'm seriously not trying to start anything or chastise. I just get what Henley is saying and I can see what he means.

More like WWE has spun it into the gimmick. Nobody sat down in a board meeting and said "Hey, I got a good idea. Lets create a top face of the company that gets booed."

Besides, I never once said nobody cared about him. They want to see him get beat, but not for Nature Boy reasons. They want to see him get beat for all the wrong reasons.

Umm, Vince has preached since day one that all he cares about is that the fans make noise. He's never even tried to hide that fact.

If the crowd makes noise, they're over. It doesn't matter what the noise is as long as they care enough to make a noise.

Can't agree with that. People reviled X-Pac and wanted him off their TVs. It had nothing to do with being over.

Vince likes money more than anything, and thats what Cena brings. Of course, to WWE, at the end of the day that's all that matters.

However, we're all smart enough to know that money does not always equal quality. I mean how do you explain Michael Bay still making movies? Actually now that I think about it, Cena is kinda the Michael Bay movies of wrasslin.

Cena would be a star in any era.

I don't disagree that he'd be a star. I think he thrives on being Hulk Hogan 2.0.

He's the little kid hero. Grown males might tire of it, but the fanbase thrives off him one way or the other and his ability to sell wrestling to kids not only helps WWE today, it helps them in 30 years. Don't think so? Look at all the Warriors and Hulkamaniacs watching today.

He'd have been a player in the Attitude Era, but behind Rock and Austin imo.

Man has Taker brought it at Wrestlemania.

WM23 vs Batista
WM21 vs Randy Orton
WM28 vs HHH
WM29 vs Punk

Plus his HBK matches.

NXT is still WWE but it is amazing and worth keeping the Network for.

Lucha Underground is actually a really fun show to watch if you can find it on TV.

I've never watched ROH on TV but I went to a taping in Nashville about a month and a half ago and it was a great time. No women's matches, no monologue promos like you'd get with the Authority in WWE taking up 25 minutes of a show.

And I've never watched NJPW but I've always heard good things.
Thanks. I've heard good things about lucha underground.

Umm, what?
I was looking for some good wrestling shows. Just wanted to clear that up, because you seemed confused.

ding ding ding ding ding.

I think he's thrived because of the PG era.

Agreed. A big part of the booing is fans who want a return to the Attitude Era. Cena is the anti-Attitude Era. Those fans are used to cheering for heel-like faces, not true baby faces.

Fans either love him or love to hate him. Either way, he's about as over as you can possibly get. Can he do all the things that some of the other wrestlers can? No, but he does more than some others, and he's always willing to put the next guy over. The effort and the passion are there when he's in the ring, even if he can't execute all the moves some of your more technical wrestlers can.

I'm not a huge fan, but I give the guy his props for being who he is.

Cena can't/doesn't really carry a match on his own, but he doesn't have to be carried in a match either. He's truly the Hulk Hogan of the modern era, just replace the "Train, say your prayers, and eat your vitamins" with "Hustle. Loyalty. Respect." And Cena is a far superior wrestler to Hogan and Ultimate Warrior.

That one is kinda 50/50. On one hand, he is less a dick about that sort of thing than somebody like Hogan, HBK, or Hart. He's got his can handed to him by Lesnar, and has put guys like Punk and Bryan over in matches.

On the other hand - and this is one of my beefs with Cena - he could probably stand to have a little more Jericho or Rock in him, and lose to guys like Wyatt or Rusev (presuming he beats Rusev at WM) more often. That could be more on Vince for trying to protect him tho.
