Worst calls by the refs that went in Tennessee's favor

Buck Fitzgerald was totally grabbing the Florida receiver’s jersey on that 2pt play to finish off Spurrier’s 2001 Gators in the Swamp. It wasn’t much, but it was probably the reason the Gator WR didn’t catch that pass.

By rule, the Eric Gordon interception of that Vandy pass should not have been reviewable (by the rules at the time), even though Dooley called timeout. Should have been a pick - but not a TD.

Wade totally hit Dallas Baker first, but they didn’t call it. Even worse though, there was a clock stoppage as a result - the clock should have run after resetting. Just enough time - and enough penalty yards - to give Wilhoit his shot.

But you know what? Gaffney did NOT catch that pass. So nuts to it all.

We always bitch about the ones that went against our Vols, but what are some of the most memorable or, better yet, some of the most forgettable blown calls made by the refs that went our way? The incomplete pass that was scooped up and taken to the house by DeRon Jenkins against Louisville in 1993 comes to my mind, the play at the 7:50 mark in this video:

Wow we had to go back that far to find one in our favor.

That wasn't a bad call. It might have been a late call, but there was absolutely PI on that play.
Yea, the Bama fans went apeshit over that one but the guy making the call saw it immediately but ran closer to the spot of the foul before throwing the flag…I don’t know that our receiver was going to make the catch (or even stay in bound) but the Bama DB definitely grabbed his arms before the ball got there…

The personal foul on Florida in 2004 that backed them up before their punt and allowed us to get into FG range to win the game.

In 2006, LSU punted to us, and our return guy accidentally touched it as it rolled past him, and LSU recovered, but the refs ruled it that our guy didn’t touch it.

Those are two off the top of my head.

Baker barely even hit him too. It was more of a "hey, stop that" tap. And the ref CLEARLY looked at the first one (was it Wade?) when he hit him.

The out of bounds hit on Rohan Davey was in ‘93? 🤔

Farooq should’ve been ejected on the same play Spillman was in the 4th quarter of our most recent game if you want something more recent. We got away with being lined up offsides multiple times on Saturday too, but those aren’t as hilariously pathetic like the Jenkins TD or really big like the game-deciding blown calls like others have mentioned. We probably got a lot more of those back then because we were winning championships or at least competing for them back then and got more calls as a result of being an elite representative of the conference, sort of like Saban did and Kirby still does, and the ‘93 play was before instant replay, another big factor.

Have two people ever been ejected for targeting on the same play? That would be a first I think.

The hit out of bounds on Rohan Davey in the 2001 SEC Championship game at the 18:15 mark in the video below, that wasn't called a personal foul, is one that sticks out in my memory, since the hit out of bounds itself may have cost us the SEC title with Mauck coming in and stealing our lunch money after Davey couldn't get anything accomplished. 🍔 💸

I was watching that game with a large family group. That play made my my stomach drop and I blurted out 'we're going to lose now.' We traded an immobile QB for a guy with a pulse and proceeded to get outcoached by some short guy. I forget his name.

No offense, but never link any sort of video to that game ever again. I feel like this should be under advisement to become a board rule. “No posting videos that involve the 2001 SEC championship game”

Speaking from myself... I don't recall any calls that blatantly won us games... I guess because is you win, it never really mattered but if you lost it was a travesty... the benefit of winning or losing

Pretty sure they made up for that and then some later in the game.

PI against Bama in 2022 when they picked off Hooker.
The punch flop against Florida the year Butch beat them.
The PI was a good call. Watch the view from behind. Holding the receiver with arm around waist and knocking the receiver’s arm away from the ball with his other arm.

The bad call was the no-call on flagrant DPI on the Bama DB in the endzone previously. 4-point swing. We wouldn’t have needed the final FG.

20 years ago. 😂 You really deny that the PF occurred? Don’t remember that he touched it, but LSU won anyway.
