Not really. Interest in soccer has come miles from where it was 10 years ago. Every 4 years, a ton of fans jump on the USA bandwagon, and quite a few of them remain soccer fans. And the interest was there in 2002 when the US was surging. The problem is the interest drops considerably after the WC is over, and that's because IMHO American's get behind the WC like they do the Olympics; it's cool while it's going on but after it's over, people move on.

We'll have to agree to disagree then, because I wouldn't call it "miles". Improvement yes, but nowhere near the explosion that's been predicted for what seems like my entire life.
I think it's time to give up on this so called "explosion" that people have been predicting. It's going to happen slowly over time, but people really are catching on. Ten years ago the thought of European Club matches being broadcast on ESPN or even Fox in the case of the Champions League Final would have been laughable. Nevertheless, here we are. It could have been better. The US will likely never again have a chance at a deep run in the WC like they did this time. If we had gone to the semis, most everyone would have made it onto the bandwagon by then, so we missed out on a good chance to win some casual fans over, but with each passing year, more and more people are starting to appreciate the sport here in the states.
i wish the MLS could start getting a following.
