World Cup Soccer........Boring as H*ll

And the interest was there in 2002 when the US was surging. The problem is the interest drops considerably after the WC is over, and that's because IMHO American's get behind the WC like they do the Olympics; it's cool while it's going on but after it's over, people move on.
Not really. Interest in soccer has come miles from where it was 10 years ago. Every 4 years, a ton of fans jump on the USA bandwagon, and quite a few of them remain soccer fans.

We'll have to agree to disagree then, because I wouldn't call it "miles". Improvement yes, but nowhere near the explosion that's been predicted for what seems like my entire life.

I'm going to try and follow Everton this season. What's the best way to do that on the internet? I don't have FSC or anything.

I think it's time to give up on this so called "explosion" that people have been predicting. It's going to happen slowly over time, but people really are catching on. Ten years ago the thought of European Club matches being broadcast on ESPN or even Fox in the case of the Champions League Final would have been laughable. Nevertheless, here we are. It could have been better. The US will likely never again have a chance at a deep run in the WC like they did this time. If we had gone to the semis, most everyone would have made it onto the bandwagon by then, so we missed out on a good chance to win some casual fans over, but with each passing year, more and more people are starting to appreciate the sport here in the states.

I agree. I've actually found that as I get older I appreciate it more, and while I've followed the WC in years past, this year is the first I've watched at least some of every game that's been televised. Part of this is because of advances like ESPN3 but still.

On a related note, I wish rubgy would catch on here. I've grown to really love watching it on ESPN3.

i wish the MLS could start getting a following.

It think it's slowly getting better. Teams getting their own soccer specific stadiums that seat around 25-30K is better than trying to fit into large NFL stadiums, at least right now.

I really wish Nashville would get a team, I'd definitely go to some games.

There is nothing sophisticated about soccer. Nothing at all. I love watching international soccer and the World Cup. I find it extremely entertaining, but not sophisticated. It's a sport that happens to be wildly popular in most countries in the world. Far spread popularity doesn't make it sophisticated. I don't think the rest of the world thinks we're unsophisticated because we don't love soccer as much as they do. What I do think is that the rest of the world resents any success the US has in soccer because they know that most people in our country don't give a s**t about it, and it means everything to them. So as far as the argument that Americans aren't sophisticated enough to enjoy soccer, that's bs.

Keep in mind that a team plays all of its league and cup matches at the same time. For example, Arsenal might play a PL match on Sat, CL match on Tuesday, a FA cup match on Saturday, and then a Carling cup match on Wednesday, in that order.

European league schedules are brutal
