World Cup Soccer........Boring as H*ll

And the World Cup just lasts one month. International is cool and all, but for the US, it's only cool every four years. Club soccer is every year and all year. You should atleast give the Champions League a chance. I watched it four years ago and that's how I got so into soccer. It's easily my favorite tournament as a soccer fan.

I understand it's only for a short period of time and that's unfortunate. I'd love to watch international play year round - or even just once every year.

It's just amazing to see all the countries across our world competing - you don't really get the same feeling when watching the Olympics either, imo.

Look for qualifying games.

Watching the Euro is pretty good as well. It's essentially the same as the WC, but only European nations are involved. It happens every four years as well, but is on a different sequence that the WC (2008, 2012, etc). The US isn't involved obviously, so that's a drawback, but if you can find a European team to support, it's just as fun as the WC.

I would watch soccer just to see the horrendous dives

Champions League is basically a collection of all the best teams in Europe. Smaller leagues just get one team in like the Russian league or Turkish. The bigger leagues like EPL, get thee or four teams in. The tournament is set up like the World Cup with group play and then an elimination tournament. Except in the elimination tournament, they play a home and home two games series with the team
advancing who scored the most goals over the two games.

When is league play for the different federations, and when is the CL?

I'm going to try and follow the EPL this year.

League play is from august to may. Champions league is intertwined into the seasons. They take place simultaneously.

EPL starts August 14, I think?

If you have a PS3 or 360 - get FIFA. It makes it a whole lot easier to learn about other leagues.

the rest of the world likes a lot of things that we think suck (and i agree suck). that isn't a basis for an argument.
Funny how interest in the US is surging when the team displays some competence for a change. More people are watching and liking what they're seeing.

Just what this country needed I guess. Remember the interest in soccer when the World Cup was in the US like in 96 or whatever??

This is an unbelievable run.

Keep in mind that a team plays all of its league and cup matches at the same time. For example, Arsenal might play a PL match on Sat, CL match on Tuesday, a FA cup match on Saturday, and then a Carling cup match on Wednesday, in that order.

I wish I had directv. Comcast isn't bad and it allows me to basically see all of Barcelona's games. And with ESPN3 being able to stream through XBOX 360, i can watch the games on my TV rather than on my computer.

For the first time ever, you can watch replays of recent games whenever you want, streamed from the Internet. You no longer even have to adjust your schedule to watch a game. it's now a truly 4th dimensional sports world.

And the interest was there in 2002 when the US was surging. The problem is the interest drops considerably after the WC is over, and that's because IMHO American's get behind the WC like they do the Olympics; it's cool while it's going on but after it's over, people move on.
