Winter Storm

We are getting the freezing rain now. I cut and split two ricks of wood. Put 20 bales of hay in the barn.

Today I built a temporary 8x12 shelter to relocate some goats from under pine trees. Did prep around the house to be prepared.

It looks like we are expecting a large dry spell in southern middle Tennessee. I won't complain. I'm tired and sore as hell. But if rather be tired and sore than sorry.

Stay safe, warm and dry everyone.

I hope everyone is doing well. At least for folks here in West TN it seems like today will be the stress test on power, heat, travel, etc.

I plan to build the largest snowman in Jackson. Everyone be vigilant!

Just lost power here in Mt Juliet. This is my first time using my EV as a backup. So far I have my gas tankless water heater running and an extension cord ran in to the house to a power strip, powering our fridge and a couple of lamps.

It’s been popping off all around me all morning with branches and trees making all sorts of noises from sounding like a low tone gunshot to the cracking.

I was so tired, was sleeping good after a few beers last night until I woke to the sound of a pop and saw a flash in the distance through the window. Been without power since about 4 am. Had to move some more goats this morning when trees started threatening their area. Was able to move then to a horse stall for the time being.

Broke out the propane heater and between that and the wood stove I can heat most of the house. I'm exhausted though. Thinking about making a pot of chili on the wood stove tonight.

You cannot beat a warm wood fire on a cold and snowy winter day.

Absolutely. I grew up on coal and wood, dad swapped to straight wood when I was in high-school. They still have it, no gas or electric heat, just a wood stove.
I love mine. All year I get to cut deadwood around the property. Then it keeps us warm in the winter. I have a huge pile of wood cut this fall that will be my exercise this spring.

Still hearing trees popping as I type this. The property adjacent to mine on one side is around 200 acres, 1/3 wooded most of it that but to my property is wooded. He's lost a lot of trees, which is good for me because he let's me harvest anything that is down for firewood.

Going to ride my fences tomorrow and see what the damage is.

24 degrees with 16 mph winds gusting to 31. Wind chill makes it feel like 7 degrees outside. When daylight arrives, I’m going to see if the thumps from last night were just ice or tree branches.
