Will this team be Special ?

Rumor has it that you took the Wonderlic for Morris Claiborne....true? If so, nice 4. You must of got lucky with a couple of guesses.

4 may seem like a small number, but sometimes 4 can be a very big deal.

i mean, hey, just 4 more points and tennessee's "loaded offense" could have scored 11 points on kentucky and beaten the mighty wildcats.

unfortunately, like the wonderlic, the stout defense of kentucky was just too tough to put up a good score.

i'll work on my wonderlic score and perhaps tennessee's loaded offense can improve upon a 27% 3rd down conversion rate, have a running back gain more than 32 yards, and have a qb complete over 39% of his passes on that blue steel wildcat defense

Id be devastated by only 6 wins.. I don't think ppl understand the difference between this roster and the last few..this is the deepest, most talented roster we've had n a long time. The trenches r where sec games r won, and we should be a lot better on both lines.

I agree. We have a ton of talent compared to the past couple of years. Just saying i wouldnt be surprised if we won 6 because of all the ? marks with the new coaches.

That being said, we probably win 8 or more.

I agree with previous posts to the effect that I belive that this team will be special for one of two reasons. Either they will be the team that solidified the Dooley era or they will be the team that ushered the way for a change at the top. This is going to be one of those season's where everything is on the line from the first kickoff to the final whistle.

The pressure will be unbelievable from the start. You can almost already feel it with interviews from spring practice.

Seriously. Our offense could be loaded.. If the running game is solid, and with the WR's we have, Bray seems to be coming around to the maturity and leader we need. I think the defense could be very good also. I honestly think this team has the makings of a very special year. What say you ?:loco:

Im both excited, and worried about the defense. It might take a bit of time for it to be effective for a few reasons. 1.) completely new, and everyone must learn it
2.) while we have most of the players to run it, we haven't had a full recruiting class of guys that were specifically recruited for the system. These factors could make the transition a bit rough at first. Either way im very excited about seeing the Vols run a 3-4, and think it will be extremely effective in due time.

On offense this team will be a juggernaut. We have upgraded the OL coach, and the RB position, as well as actually adding a RB coach. Our wideouts have the potential to be top 3 in the country, IF Hunter comes back as good, or close to as good as he was last year. Rivera should be better, and I expect Cam to actually get alot of time there as well. Hopefully Bray continues to be a leader, and shows consistency.

First of all I hate the Gators and hope u lose every game....lol

Saying that im amazed at vols fans think a team that couldn't beat a sorry Kentucky team and almost lost to candy has the talent starter or backups to win 9 games. My god there are some hs teams that could have won the Kent game.

We got worse in every phase of the game except defense and that could have been who we were playing more than improving..

I see 8 wins with a normal TN team but the last 5 years we have not been normal. IMO.... I know I will get slammed but cdd has to prove it first.

Special compared to the past 3 years... maybe. Not enough yet to get over the hump IMO and contend

I agree. Improvement, but not championship depth or experience yet. We are getting there. Could upset some good teams, but could also lose one we shouldn't. We are on the rise, though.

Barring injuries I think this team can win games they aren't supposed to. Defense should be solid. 8-9 wins minimum. 10 if they win their bowl.

There are 8 easy wins on this years schedule.

I am not purely hoping for a special year. I just want us to reach a bowl game so I can see us in the post season for the first time. 7+ wins would be great!

An 8 win season with the 2012 schedule is equivalent to a 6 win season with last years schedule. Only 7 wins will be disappointing.

I sort of agree with you here. This should be a reasonable expectation.

Auburn did what?

Not too bright down there in gatorland, are you?

Excellent post, valid insight.

Expect to be lambasted by the dooleyphobes.

I can guarantee you we will be in a bowl, unless the earth opens up and swallows us all in an orgasmic Dec 21 Mayan Meltdown.

3 things need to happen

1 Bray has to show some maturity
2 the defense has to show a big improvement
3 and some semblance of a good running game

these 3 things happen, this will be a good year

OVERexpecting is the norm for most Tennessee fans but I LOVE their attitudes!!!

Reality is this...

We do NOT have 100% of our schollys filled, yet.

We do NOT have SEC type starters for a solid 2 deep rotation, yet.

We are switching to a 3-4 D this year and even in the NFL it normally takes at least 2 years to get really good with a 3-4 D.

I don't know where so many people see a automatic 8 win season but our 1st game is HUGE because N C State is a good team led by a returning QB that's very good so a WIN in our 1st game can give us confidence and set the stage for a good season.

I still expect 7 or 8 wins with a good bowl win but I want it all which isn't reality just yet.

VFL...GBO!!!

There is so much talk about the offense and how explosive/dynamic people think they will be. What about the defense? that's what I'm interested in
