It's already been explained the possibility of him ending up THE backup. Since you project this coach's failure...you better be prepared. This isn't EA Sports.
:good!:
People will be ignorant to what's going on in all aspects of life. No matter the situation. Something else I want to make clear as well....I DO NOT think he should've been let go this year. Unstable athletic department and no decent options. But I do think eventually he will. Just because I have a different opinion than you doesn't mean I think i'm 100% and you're 100% wrong, either.
it's one spot, on a class that will likely have some more movement before signing day. and we do need to get a qb in this class. you may not like the qb, that's fine. but taking this guy, right now, is a bit of a luxury given who's already on the roster.
and adding some competition, while not upsetting the apple cart with those already here, is not exactly a terrible thing to do.
Do you not?
Do you not?
And i'm sorry. I started this conversation in regards to him being compared to Lamar freaking Jackson and Johnny Manziel. Not him being a back up
No I don't. I don't preclude the possibility that Butch can't get it done...just haven't jumped off the cliff preemptively. In any case I back the coach until he ain't my coach and I pull for him to leave a legit framework of valid athletes if he ain't. I'm prepared for change...if it's needed. Haven't been convinced on the NEED. If he reinvents a little and eases up on the control? Hires coaches with good ideas and let's them use them? It could be a Jimmy Johnson situation. Cowboys sucked with David Shula at OC. Norv Turner coached them better. Results...we all want em.
Do I want him fired? No, because that means he has continued to fail and that means my favorite team has continued to fail in his hands. I will be shocked if he convinces successful assistants into coming here this year. With unrest in the fan base, no AD, probably unwillingness to sign long term deals, etc....I just don't see a proven commodity take that chance. Could be wrong.
I feel like we have seen enough from the staff to know 8-9 a year is the cap.
Lamar Jackson wasn't someone to be compared to right out of high school. Had to make it so. None of this is preordained. Saying a kid is a bad choice because he doesn't match your prerequisites? Cheating yourself. No one is predicting greatness for this recruit...just not shutting off possibilities. 5 stars 4 stars and 3 stars all start over when they sign.
I agree with your point. This was primarily started over Mcbride being compared to two heisman winners.
Two Heisman winners that were 3 stars. THAT's where it started. :wink2:

yeah, trying to extrapolate what he will or won't do when at TN, right now, and using anyone as a direct comparison is a futile effort, either way.
in the end, all you're doing is stating what you THINK will happen, either way.
but again, we've seen 5 start can't miss guys....miss. badly. and we've seen the afforementioned 3*'s turn out to be world beaters.
neither scenario happens all that often, so we're using outliers as benchmarks.
Questions for you: If we are out-recruiting them, then why can't we beat them out to win the SEC East? By exactly how much further to we have to out recruit them before we can get past them to Atlanta?
The bottom line is: 3-star Botch, just ain't getting the job done.
I would never underestimate you.
