Will Jalen Hurd be the first UT player to win the Heisman Trophy?

Will Jalen Hurd win a Heisman Trophy at Tennessee?

Are you saying Tennessee is cursed and no UT player will ever win it, or that I said somewhere in my post that George played for UT? I definitely didn't say the latter.
Neither. I am saying that it is unlikely that a Tennessee back, playing behind a mediocre line, in an offense with a mediocre passing game, will win the Heisman anytime soon. Hurd is an excellent back, but he won't be able to generate the numbers or the press coverage.

The Heisman is given annually to the best non-Tennessee player in the country. So probably not.

Heisman trophy has little to nothing to do with how good a player you are. It's about storylines and media hype along with some nice stats.

The local media loves him for sure. He gets praise nationally, he just has to start putting up better numbers to start getting it regularly. He put up 900 yds in last year's woeful offense so I'm looking more towards his JR and hopefully SR year. Consider his size at age 19. He could seriously start just brutalizing people.

No chance that happens. Hurd is not the best RB in the nation and remember what happened last time we had a true heisman candidate

The kids a stud. I think he's the best chance we've had in a while. We'll have a good oline towards the end of this year, a good oline next year and a great line next year. He's a leader, has been since he walked on campus. I'm gonna say yes.

No.. Manning was the runaway winner and got hosed. Hurd has not dominated to this point his opponents like Manning...

Manning hadn't dominated anything by the second game of his SOPHOMORE year. :)

Nope. Maybe if he was on a team with an average or above OL. It really is sad to see.

Think what he could do behind a big good OL, nearly every long run he has he bounces to the out side and when he runs between the tackles he drags the defender with him to gain a few more yards, just maybe in 16 we will be decent in the OL and really see what we got, wait till he goes to the NFL and gets behind a big strong OL, we will be sick at what we had and wasted his talent.

I hate to go back to the "youth." But, I believe there's some truth, in that our younger guys who are playing, or players who aren't used to playing big minutes who are now forced to do so, aren't use to the speed and width of the game. So youth, and conditioning are imo, the biggest problems.

ESPN has already decided Leonard Fornette will win it this year. I couldn't see them changing their mind next year. So unfortunately no.

If not for a holding call against bowling green, and 12 yrs loss on the fumble against oklahoma he would be second in the SEC behind Chubbs in yards rushing. I don't care about the heisman he will be remember at Tennessee once his time is up!

Next year and the year after is when our O line will become a much better unit.

We should never say never because if Hurd decides to stay for his senior year we could be in beast mode by then at every position and be making serious noise for a National Championship.

The main reason it's doubtful is because K town is thought to be a little Southern hick town in the mountains and Tennessee is never supposed to even be in the top 15 nationally.

The national press and ESPN really doesn't like us for some odd reasons so even if we Win the National Championship and Hurd were to run for 3,000 yards in that season the powers that be would probably find some reasons to give the crappy heiStman to someone not wearing Tennessee Orange.

It's totally screwed up but we all saw Peyton Manning get totally screwed and you can bet that it will happen again just because we ARE one Tennessee!

Should any UT player EVER actually win the Heisman, they should take the stage and promptly refuse to accept the trophy in the name of the Majors and Manning rob jobs. Show it for what it has become....worthless.

He could rush for 3k yards and 30 td's and still would not get it. Would probably lose to another "first ever"....maybe a place kicker.

You said it brother. After Peyton got shafted, I forever put the Heisman Trophy into the "ESPN Hypeman Trophy" category. If ESPN has their way, a Big 10 or Pac-10 school would win it every year.
