Simple question - will Hurd win our first ever Heisman Trophy? Not this year or any one year in particular, but do you think during his career at UT will he be the one? I ask this because he is most often compared to Eddie George who won the Heisman in 1995. Let's look at Eddie's college stats vs Jalen's thus far (rushing only).

Eddie George
YEAR - CL - ATT - YDS - AVG - TD
1992 - FR - 37 - 176 - 4.8 - 5
1993 - SO - 42 - 223 - 5.3 - 3
1994 - JR - 276 - 1442 - 5.2 - 12
1995 - SR - 328 - 1927 - 5.9 - 24 - year Eddie won the Heisman

Jalen Hurd
YEAR - CL - ATT - YDS - AVG - TD
2014 - FR - 190 - 899 - 4.7 - 5
2015 - SO - 47 - 299 - 4.9 - 4 - year isn't over but Jalen is on track to 1,000+ yards rushing for sure assuming he remains healthy

We also know how the team performs matters. Jalen Hurd could put up stats like Eddie's but if we went 5-7, I doubt he would win the Heisman, whether deserved or not.

OSU
YEAR - W - L - T
1992 - 8 - 3 - 1
1993 - 10 - 1 - 1
1994 - 9 - 4
1995 - 11 - 2 - year Eddie won Heisman, OSU defeated in Citrus bowl by Tennessee

UT
YEAR - W - L - T
2014 - 7 - 6
2015 - 1 - 1 - obviously the year isn't over yet and who knows how it will end, but likely 8-9 wins with next year maybe 10-11???

So, assuming we can pull off a 10-12 win season in 2016 and/or 2017 and Jalen rushes for 1500+ yds I think he could be a serious contender. He runs angry as hell and is a driven individual. I'm going to go out on a limb and say YES, barring injuries, Jalen Hurd will win a Heisman while at Tennessee.

That's a bold ass prediction, sir. Not going to argue for or against you, though.

I'm tired of the bickering about the OU loss and coaching, I figured I'd throw something else out there positive, albeit controversial. Not that it will stop the other bickering :p

Eddie George played for the Tennessee Titans, not the Tennessee Vols. If we haven't won the Heisman by now, it's not likely anytime soon.

that would be sweet. A Tennessee boy playing for the State school. It could happen. I hope it does because that most likely mean TN had reached the top of the mountain.

He could rush for 3k yards and 30 td's and still would not get it. Would probably lose to another "first ever"....maybe a place kicker.

Are you saying Tennessee is cursed and no UT player will ever win it, or that I said somewhere in my post that George played for UT? I definitely didn't say the latter.

He's good, but until he starts putting up 150+ yards a game against everyone, every game it'll never happen.

Consider he's still a sophomore and the OL is still developing. Compare his YPC to Eddie's - assuming Jalen improves as does the OL in his JR & SR year, I think we could see him rush for 150+ yds against everyone. If you listened to Vol Calls, Jones spoke about why Hurd got the bulk of the carries against OU - he said "Jalen was running like he was possessed; you don't want to keep someone like that on the sideline" so even with kamara, I could see Jalen ripping it and getting the bulk of the carries

It is conceivable as we have a young o-line and if he stays until his senior year, he'll be running behind a solid squad. However, we have to really getting the national attention for that to happen. We're getting there, but not quite yet.

I think he will be too good for the Heisman - isnt that the award they give to the second best player each year?

Just checked with the Heisman Committee to see if they would ever give the award to a TN player?

Here was their response.

I wish Jalen all the honors he can receive but Heisman now is just which QB can put up the best numbers. Best not to even waste time thinking about it.

No.. Manning was the runaway winner and got hosed. Hurd has not dominated to this point his opponents like Manning...

He would have to dominate -- not there just yet but he should get there.

AND

UT would need to win 11+ games probably and that's not happening any time soon.

While he's been very solid, he doesn't seem to be that big homerun hitter, especially in big games, like a Gurley/Chubb, Derek Henry or Fournette.

If he's going to get Heisman consideration, he needs to start taking some 60-yard runs to the house against teams like Oklahoma, Bama, UGA, etc.
