Will Friend ...

They played just fine 3 of the last 4 quarters and we won by more than we have won a game in years.

Some of y'all have lost your damn mind and forgotten what is a reasonable expectation. Ole Miss got 40 hung on them by an FCS team and y'all are mad we didn't average 10 yards a carry all game.

That's a bit of a stretch. They sacked our QB, had 7 tackles for loss, and held our two best RBs to <5 ypc, because of the o-line.

If an FCS defensive front can live in our backfield, what do you think is going to happen when we play Florida, and every other SEC team this season?

Friend can coach someone on how to block. He can't get on the field and do the blocking. The O line will improve but this bunch is not going to be great. Smith needs someone to help him. Enough with the coaching carousel. Pruitt and his staff have been on Rocky Top for 9 months.
A new staff doesn't mean all the players that went 4-8 will suddenly be a Top SEC unit. It will take a lot of hard work and several new players.
This site must be full of Millenials. Great things don't come easy and they dang sure don't come over night. Our mess from the past is not this staff's fault. Sheesh. SMH

Missed assignments end the same way regardless of who you're playing. The "extrapolate the FCS team to an SEC team" just isn't how it works. It's an excuse for people on here to cry themselves to sleep when we don't win by 200 and talk about how ETSU proved we aren't going to win an SEC game this year.

They looked good more of the game than they didn't.

Its nitpicky as hell to get caught up in the Olines play of the first half of the first quarter when we won by almost 60.

It's tongue-in-cheek except for the part about Pittman.
Man, I am glad! I actually thought I was in an alternate reality for a minute; although I think Will Friend deserves more than 9 months to show his worth.

Wishing we had depth and everyone was a Trey Smith just doesn't make is so. The O line picked it up after the first quarter. I know I am wasting my time trying to temper this burn the house down with Friend in it attitude. I understand the frustration from the PAST but this team is being coached for a change. I just wish some would read their posts before the make them. This place is unbelievable at times.

We aren't going to get a 45 minute lightning delay between the 1st-2nd quarters on the rest of our games for, Friend/Pruitt/Helton to do whatever it took to get the oline to play better against ETSU.

We've got one more tune-up game for them to gel/improve/whatever, but then it's over... they have to play better or we're gonna get slaughtered. I'm not expecting a top-tier line, but they MUST be able to handle ETSU's defensive front.

That said, it's not ALL their fault... our RB's are bouncing it outside too much. It's understandable considering how often the line collapses, but they need to follow the lead block and squeeze through those holes. We're not changing up the schemes based on o-line play either. I'd like to see us try moving the pocket, or using more screens when the box is loaded. We also need more intermediate-to-long passes to keep them from crowding the line.

So the coaches didnt decide to coach until the lightning delay? You crack me up at times. Thanks for the laughs. SMH

You really arguing that the oline was playing the same, before and after the delay? You saw zero improvement after the delay?

I don't know what the coaches did. Maybe they busted out a whiteboard and broke it down for them, or maybe the support staff had already processed the 1st quarter footage, and the coaches were able to show them how poorly they were playing in slow motion with Sarah McLachlan songs as a soundtrack.

What would be exclellent, would be if they could get the oline ready before the game starts, because that hasn't been the case the last two weeks against a middling Big12, and an FCS defense.

Well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see with the expectation the team continues to improve. Firing Friend would be beyond ignorant..

I really would not want to be stuck in a foxhole with a lot of you..

I think Friend will be fine. Hes having to completely overhaul everything that was done before him. A lot of the pieces have missed a lot of time coming into camp for various reasons. If they having not made some significant strides by Nov I ll be surprised and worried. Assuming we dont lose anymore for the year.

I agree they came out after the delay and played much better. You are the one that implied the coaches decided to coach during the delay. For us to get to where we all want to be, it will take great talent and coaching. We just dont have the talent we need yet.

Pittman makes $825,000. UGA is the easiest coaching job he's ever had. Excellent in state recruiting base, plus the ability to recruit nationally due to the overall direction of the program.

I don’t care who you have playing, they should be better. Our guys are confused and very soft. They have no idea what they are doing.
Agreed they haven’t been coached until Friend arrived, but our progress is slow.
Perhaps they are trying to learn to many positions at once.
We got a little better as the game progressed but we can’t block a breeze.
Aw c'mon Butch.

When you sh*t in the same hole for 9 years, it’s going to be hard to clean all that sh*t out in just two weeks.

I say the FL game is a tossup right now. They look just as bad as as we do. They’ve given up over 500 yards rushing in two games so far. That’s 2017 Tennessee defense levels. Gators haven’t done that since probably before Steve spurrier.

It's not just the O-line, JG holds the ball quite a while...watch any other teams QB, ball is out in about 3 seconds. Not sure if it's the receivers or JG not predicting their route quick enough

I said that? Feel free to quote that when you find it.

What I actually said though, was that we weren't going to get a weather dealy in every game, for the coaches to do whatever it is they did Saturday, to get the offense functioning. Because it was not functioning, regardless of what coaching happened this week in practice, before the lightning delay.

Smith unfortunately looks like some who missed spring and most of fall camp. He also needs to get way better than what I saw yesterday. But still thankful for no UUMASS.

Now THAT caused me a chuckle or two.

The game revealed more questions than answers. They played a team that just revived its football program in 2015 after a 12 year absence. Think about that for a minute.
Had the defense not scored 21 I wonder if you’d see it the same. The offense looks poor and had -1 rushing yards after the first quarter. It was a **** show. It had a few moments, but against this team it should have racked up 600 yards of offense.

414 Yard’s of total offense and your impressed? Get the fuvk out of here. 4 of 10 on third down? Spare me. And basically broke even on TOP.
This offense sucks balls. If you’re too stubborn to look past the final score then suit yourself. It will show up as soon as SEC play hits.
