Wilcox needs to go

Bad game. No running game and defense missed tackles. Wilcox'd defense looks soft........not liking the whole bend bt not break thing. Missing tackles comes down to coaching period.

Wilcox must go? Do you have a clue about what happened? Actually the defense kept us close enough to have a shot late in the game...I too wish we could tackle a little better...But Wilcox must go??? REALLY???

Would you expect any less insanity from the schizos on here? You know the drill. Beat Cincy and UF can't stop us. Lose to UF, time to fire some coaches and of course our best players are the ones on the bench.

Our very young defense played extremely well given the circumstances of the last 3 years and the lack of experience. I will give it 2 more years before passing judgment.

that's the problem with Hambone's hirings, 3 years is going to turn into 5

wilcox is not a bad DC ...but his schemes must change to be effective in the SEC
-
his 'coverage' style of rushing 3 and 4 and playing various coverage packages is a coaches dream ...but a coach has to have a very good down front , not just kinda good , but very good. This approach is awesome against the spread , which Wilcox has been known to be successful against.

In the core of the SEC , he has to be successful against pro-style Os. We have seen Monte have extreme success against pro sets , chavis still is. It involves using various blitzes on all downs and distances , crowding the box , and pre snap movements as well as post snap movement to disguise , and play funnelling to dictate where the D is going to let the ball move to. Basically , the D must be more similar to an NFL defense as oppossed to what we saw Saturday . He is not going to be successful until he brings 5 and 6 guys from different places to pressure the QB and backfield.

Up until 1997 , the 'covereage' approach was what we took against UF. It didnt work ...we lost bad. In 98 , we man covered , crowded the box , and dictated to the offense.

Dude, shut up. Please have some clue about the game before you start saying stupid stuff. Our players are quitting. Flat out giving up. Its not the coaching.

The game was 30-7 in the 3rd and we made it 23-33 final.

If this were last year like the Oregon game in the second half I could understand that, but that was not the case against Florida. We did not give up we fought and made it a game. If this were last year the final score would have much.....much worse than 10 points.

We are getting better, it's only 1 game. there is still alot of football to be played.

3-1 here we come and then bring on the DAWGS!!!!!!

GO VOLS!!!!!!

You did not watch the same game I watched. The defense make a few mistakes, but did not cost us the game. Defense actually kept us in the game. We lost the game because Hunters injury took away our best offensive player and half the offense. In addition, the timing of almost every play was disrupted by bad snaps by the center. Think goodness we had Wilcox so we were not blown away.

Pool is just not the same as last year. He looks like he is in slow motion. Last year he ran hard and was hard to bring down, This year he falls down for the first one who touches him. I do not know what the problem is but he is not as good as last year...Just my opinion! Anyone else noticed this, or is it just me?

Guys- get over it. We're getting better. Look, FL recruits 4 star recruits 3 & 4 star recruits every year. Look it up. And most are from right there in FL. WE have to recruit everywhere. How many are still here from Fulmer & Kiffy's class. Dooley is starting over. Give him time. Next year we will be ringing some bells and getting respect. We will surprise a few this year. God I hope we start with GA, cause I hate them #2 behind FL (they may be tied with AL). I hope we got Hunter back by then. If not we'll Da'Rick em to death. I'm done with FL for the year.

Completely agree, poole looks soft. He is tip toeing to the line, I played tailback and know I that I was coached to hit my crease with authority! I understand the blocking hasn't been great but running hard turns a no gain or short loss into a 2 yard gain.

Poole runs like he is afraid of getting hurt. If he's afraid he will ruin his draft chances, he's taking care of that by holding back.

Think Wilcox is more likely to leave on his own than be asked to leave. It's frustrating for everyone.

I thought the defense did pretty well despite starting 2 freshmen at LB and another few getting significant time in the secondary.

^ This.

Florida did not let off the gas the whole game. UT scored no garbage TDs, everything was hard fought. Take back that missed FG in the first quarter and Bray's picks and we have a whole different ball game. Keep Hunter in beyond the first drive and it's looking much better for UT. Wilcox was not the reason we lost.

Our fan base is so stupid. Wilcox is not our problem. The D played pretty good with the exception of the first drive. Our special teams was a much bigger problem. Our C snapping the ball into the ground all day was a bigger problem. Our lack of running game was a bigger problem.

Look at our depth chart. We have like 3 FR and 3 SO starting on defense. Our D-line is not very good. We start 2 fr LB's. We are assembling talent, but we have a long way to go.

All the talk about us winning last week was setting us up for disappointment. If JH doesn't get hurt, it might have been a different game, but injuries are part of football. Arnett and Milton looked pretty good.

The future is bright, but we are still a year or two out. I want to see this team continue to grow and get better and build on that next year. Our best players on O are freshmen and sophomores.

We need to give the gators some credit. We knew coming in they were fast and talented. Overall, they out played us. This game is over time to move on.

Our OL coach needs to go. Fl o-line is young and didn't struggle as bad.

Youth isn't an excuse, theyre sophomores with 2 summers under their belt.. A year and a half of college Strength and conditioning, and have played against top trier SEC DL as well.

There is no excuse for their lack if physicality or ability to rub block.. They played better last year and had no legitimate passing game to help them..

If we don't see marked improvement as the season progresses, OL coach needs be canned ASAP

Good suggestion. Fire a coach who has put numerous OLs in the league b/c they haven't developed in run blocking.

Do you think our D plays slow because of the players overall speed or is Wilcox scheme too complicated for these youthful guys to learn it?

this thread is why i hate tn fans and sometimes are ashamed to call myself one.

FIELD POSITION!!! our best starting field position before that fumble return was our own 28! our defense gave up field goals not touchdowns!!!! And kept us in the game!

if you say Wilcox has to go you are a complete and total moron that should try to find another sport...maybe checkers!

I think his scheme is too cutesy and not nearly aggressive enough. If you can't disrupt Brantley, you can't disrupt anybody.

It seems odd to me that Dooley talks about getting our offensive play makers "in space", but our defensive strategy seems to be to allow the other team to do just that.

UT should have went with a faster defensive scheme, i.e. 4-2-5 with three safeties and should have had one or two paly up in run support. Florida didn't have a deep passing threat with Brantley.
