The defense did miss some tackles. I see a lot of promise in Maggitt, he to missed some tackles but was in on many. He swarmed to the ball and will be a great linebacker. When it all comes down to it, this is what I expected after watching the first two games. Without the injury to Hunter it might have been a different game that we could have won. We need to face it the Gator's defense is better than ours, much more penetration and pressure. Our Achilles heel is that we can't run the ball and still aren't very good stopping a good rushing attack. That makes us one dimensional and eventually leads to turnovers. This season could define the CDD era. If he can make adjustments to improve the rushing offense and rushing defense and salvage 7-5 season then there is hope for a 2012 breakout season.

One of the...if not the...worst posts this board has ever hosted.

Before the season everyone recognized how dreadfully thin we are at our front 7. When your front four cannot clog, your linebackers are asked to cover much more ground.

And lets be honest. We don't have that much speed at lb. Certainly showed as we were beaten in the flats yesterday. Rainey and demps are tough to match up with for anyone...but for a young team playing its third game??

I'm disappointed in the flip flop nature of our fans. A bunch of john kerry s.

Look at our 2 Deep on Defense.

Brent Brewer- Baseball Player
Malik Jackson-Converted DE way to small for DT
Austin Johnson- Converted FB
Marsalious Teague- Converted WR

Johnson and Maggit- True Freshmen

And Now Compare our Backups to those of UF,LSU,ALA,UGA and so on..

We are just simply not talented enough to expect a top 10 defense. Wilcox has a great mind for defense and is doing all he can do to make us successful.

If we keep our PPG total around 20 that is pretty good for what we have on defense this year.

Are you saying this D hasn't made any plays?

This D has made some huge plays this year already and for the most part they are staying healthy. They give up one big play per game due to lack of experience. They will learn and only get better.

Wilcox is showing the ability to make some adjustments. Holding them to all those field goals when they started inside the 50 every other drive wasn't so bad.

I just have to hope we start making the tackles.

They do after the first couple series. I think it's a bunch of young guys that just get a lil too jacked up to start the games. They just need to learn to calm down a bit at the start and they'll be fine.

They make a good play, then screw up the next one. The only thing i can take out of it is the defense is a liability. Wer'e going to have to outscore folks this year. No leaning on the defense, especially against the better teams. No play makers on that side of the ball.

To be fair to Wilcox, i haven't seen Tennessee's defensive talent this lean in years. He has the toughest job on the whole staff right now. You see flashes then you want to throw something at the TV.

People use to give Chavis a hard time and now look at LSU. The coordinator can only do so much. LSU has talent everywhere. Once we do, you will see just how good Wilcox can be.

I just rewatched the game and I cannot see why everybody is so down on the defense. It's like people expect players like Rainey to just fall over when they get hit.

Aside from the first drive, our defense was pretty darn good. They exposed our lack of speed, and our tackling wasn't always perfect, but we can't snap our fingers and make our players faster.

They started 4 drives in their own half and we held them to 3 consecutive field goals. They got after Brantley, and made some pretty big stops behind the line. You cannot stop a player like Rainey every single play. You have to be able to contain home, and we did that for the most part, aside from one freshman linebacker mistake that led to a touchdown.

Guess what, Florida made a senior linebacker mistake that led to a touchdown as well (on the Lane td).

Sometime it is hard to see the forest through the trees, but looking at the cincy game and this game, our defense is getting a lot better. They are young and will give up the big play sometimes. Every defense does.

The good news is that nobody will want to hire the defensive coordinator of a weak "D" 7-5 team to be a head coach so I guess we'll be keeping wilcox for 1 more year.

we open ball games with this defense. Looks like we may have lost the game films of our opponents. Yeah Wilcox is the real deal all right.

They could have easily scored 50 on us. Look at how much they were in our territory and had to settle for FGs. They had to use 4th down from the goal line to score. If we had the opportunities they had no way we kick FGs 4 times. I won't be too harsh on the O-line but without a run game we are not gonna beat many good teams. Everybody jumps on wilcox but what about Hiestand.
