Wilcox needs to go

Wilcox put us in pretty good position to make plays, we just have to tackle better. Sometimes it's not about the X's and the O's, it's about the johnnys and the joes.

Bad game. No running game and defense missed tackles. Wilcox'd defense looks soft........not liking the whole bend bt not break thing. Missing tackles comes down to coaching period.

Nope, just not enough talent and need more and better players with size and speed at every position. We just don't have enough quality players on both sides of the ball. New coaches not going to help. The young players we do have are being baptized by fire, want to blame anyone blame Fulmer and his entire staff for the lazy recruiting job they did in their last couple of years and let's don't forget cry baby Kiff dog and most of the low life's he signed that have either been force to quit, got kicked off, or just plan cowards and transferred. We got one full and a rush salvage job with the traitorious Kiff Dog bolting for USC, probably need at least one maybe two more signing classes and the valuable experience the young guys are getting. Your fooling yourself to think without a lot of luck we are going to win right away with what the previous two coaches left for a talent pool. Four years is a more realistic goal for major league success for conference championships and next year we might think of truly competing for the eastern division. Have the last few years of turn over in coaches taught you anything. We don't have 10 seniors that play important roles currently, I'd be willing to bet including walkons 15 to 20 on the whole roster

OMG..Wilcox is doin' fine..Get A Grip!!! When this game was over I realized that Floriduh much better than folks want to admit..And we lost by 10 pts at their place with multiple youth-related mistakes..When this season is over and UT is headed to a bowl, we'll see just how good UT really is..And for that matter, teams on Floriduhs schedule will get beaten MUCH worse than we did because obviously they are a top 15 team..We just aren't quite there yet...PATIENCE!!!

JMHO

We lost by ten. You wanna make a fedderal case about it...go ahead. But the fact is we lost without our best two players. You sohw me Hunter and Jackson and I show you a Vols win.

Ignorant post IMO. The D has been on the field almost the whole game. Sure there are correctable mistakes made the D kept us in the game. When you have two speedsters, it is tough. Throw in bad ST play along with 0 run game, INT, etc -well, this is what happens.

Hell yes, they were out there a long time. AJ Johnson made a rookie mistake on the Rainey screen pass but for the most part the D play ok IMO. Maggit is gonna have to wrap up and quit going for the kill shot. He did pop rainey one good time!!

Agree we are young but UF actually starts more frosh/sophs than we do.

yea, but how many of their freshman and sophomores made an impact on the game? Rainey was the only thing they had going for them. Their O-line looked OK but if they had a back like Poole or Lane, they wouldn't be able to move the ball. I'm proud of the defense for the most part. Our O-line killed us, stupid penalties and just flat out nor blocking.

I never played football, so this may be stupid to say, how can our O-Line block for Bray so much better than for the run game? I'm sure there is a difference. But it just seems like there shouldn't be.

Ugh. Been home about an hour and a half and still pretty much hammered. After that game, heavy drinking seemed the only logical thing to do. The D played okay considering their youth and lack of experience. Tackling has ALWAYS been a problem for us, no matter who the DC was. Comparing Chavis to Wilcox is stupid. Chavis had great talent for four years and could never teach them to wrap up. They had to move on to the league to learn that. Wilcox has far less talent to work with and has had very little time to help them develop thus far. I am concerned about the future of the d-line. At this point, I think we have like two d-line commits. Is that right? And one suffered a major injury and the other is rumored to be looking around? That is not good. Lance needs to show that recruiting prowess and get on some kids or our D is going to be horrific, no matter how Wilcox coaches. Personally, I think Wilcox is fine, he just needs more talented and experienced players to compete in the SEC.

One more add in, I'm beginning to hate all the damn excuses for losing. I hope Hunter is okay, and it sucks he got hurt(especially considering this could affect his Olympic dreams), but injuries are part of the game. We didn't lose because he got hurt, we lost because when the game clock hit :00, they had a higher score. If Rainey had been hurt, and we had won, a lot of people would be singing a different tune about injuries. That's the friggin' game. We lost. Time to move on.

i don't think it was Wilcox's fault, the D help up there own,but Chavis would have done better, say what you want to,but his record speaks for it's self

My only question about Wilcox was, why was AJ Johnson, (a 245 lb Freshman LB) lined up in man against the fastest player in football? That was a TD waiting to happen, and then AJ botched the coverage anyway.

Who else we got? We still have a significant talent gap, particularly speed, to the Gators. That's just a fact.

Why? Defense actually made improvements and about 1/3 of their points had to be field goals. I think we need to seriously improve the o-line and running backs. Actually tackled a lot better than expected

Because in run plays the o-line alot of times has to actually pinch and push the other guy that's 260 and running full speed at you forward. In pass you just basically stand and hold them there, not as much motion required

Tauren Poole*|*Tennessee,*RB*:*2012 NFL Draft Scout Player Profile

He is already projected 4th or 5th round by a lot of services.

What Poole did last year, especially against Bama and Oregon behind our line was nothing short of amazing. Cam Newton was the only other player in the SEC with as many 100 yard rushing games.

Why does everyone on here slight Poole when our Oline is consistently getting manhandled and pushed back every single game??? We will NEVER be a great team with this oline. They better start improving fast and Dooley better start recruiting more and more new big uglies in case they don't.

If it were not for Wilcox's Defense, we would have lost 45 -23 or worse, we turned the ball 0ver 3 X and gave it to their Offense in our own back door and our D held em to a field goal... we better keep Wilcox, he got a brain

The defense did hold out in redzone situations and short filed situations bt how much of that was due to UF's redzone inefficiencies? Their offense looked the same against UAB and FAU. Hell, their offense is just Rainey and Demps.....they are not that good and LSU will have a filed day with them. The amount of missed tackles bother me the most. I think the D will improve just because they are so young, but there will be no more excuses next season if this crap happens again.

it will take years to build up the talent after all the problems left by fulmer and kiffin.

go back and look at the 2 deep chavis had year after year and then compare it to the 2 deep the last two years.....then you'll be able to see why the Vols D isn't as dominant...maybe....UT had missed tackle issues with him as well and forget 3rd and long

One theme that is common on this board is wait until next year. I am willing to hold my final opinion of Wilcox because the loss of Janzen Jackson and because of the fact that we have 2 true freshman LBs and thin depth at DL, but next season there will be zero excuses. And right now, there is zero excuse for the oline which was supposed to this team's strength this year.

why will there be no excuses next year? Who's going to man the Dline? What will we look like in the secondary? The offense will likely be badass, but the D is still likely to struggle. Mo Couch and Corey Miller can be beasts and Sentimore could make a difference on the end with Jacques on the other. We have a chance to be solid on D, but could just as easily suck. Going to be starting two sophs and likely one freshman at LB. Could be younger in the secondary, with Teague being the lone upperclassman, but only having two real years at the position.

I'd be willing to wager that a lot of you guys who want Chavis back are the same guys demsnding he be fired in the "3d and Chavis" days. You got no loyalty to anyone.

I'm not suggesting we be loyal just because they are our coaches but some of you guys live in a dream world where TN has all the talent and no one else has any good players. Get real.

I am getting in on this a little late but I AGREE. Playing a gimmick type defense might have worked in the Mountain whatever conference but this bend but don't break mentality doesn't work in the SEC. He is trying to be too cute. Sometimes we have to just line up and hit them in the mouth. Also playing a soft cover 2 on 2nd in 5 or 6 is usually not a good idea. Well there's my two cents but no matter what I'll be there in two weeks singing Rockey Top!
