Why the pessimism?

for anyone that's bent out of shape about some of the responses in this thread, to the question asked...i would suggest starting another thread, with a better question that will garner the answers you want to see.

and i'll be happy to provide my answers to that question as well.

People can have opinions about your opinion. Otherwise everyone in the conversation would be speaking only to OP

We need to go into Florida and beat them down

That will ease my tensions on Butch and big games

Lets not fool ourselves, Florida is not as good as I even expected them ti be. We should be able to handle them

But we should have in 2014 and 2015 and didn't. Butch got over the hump last year at home and their D is not anywhere what it has been. This is a very winnable game for us in the swamp

ok. i don't think i said you couldn't. my only intent was to separate the debate about an answer from what the original question was. as i read thru some of the comments being made, it was being construed that the answers were wrong, and should be something else...hence the suggestion to change the question.

Pessimism is far easier than optimism.

It isnt pessimism. For the love of Pete, are we watching the same defense? I don't think it's pessimism. I'd love nothing more than to be wrong and see this defense live up to the recruiting hype, the DC hype, etc.

I'm tired of 5 years of excuse making. Quite frankly, I like Butch so it's difficult to say...but, this isnt about feelings. He built our expectations through good recruiting. We should dominate Florida - on paper. Sadly in reality, we won't. is it too much to expect us to be whipping SEC East teams after half a decade? To be competitive with the upper crust of West teams? To not roll our eyes on Vandy game day?

People can use whatever they want to form their opinion. If you dont want to hear it, dont ask the question of open the thread.

Forming an opinion is fine. Trying to make the arguement we will lose because of the 90s stats is dumb.

Our team today wasn't even born in the early 90s but makes sense to bring it up. Lol

or the gaffney "catch" in 2000....

screw jobs contribute to the pessimism......?

Works both ways..........the Baker penalty that gave us the opportunity to win that game...........while Wade obviously hit him in the face first.

You guys were gearing up with your pitchforks in the middle of the GT game and then we won. It made a lot of negs very mad that we won and you've been angry ever since because CBJ keeps finding ways to win ..... or keep his job (how you see it).

You guys want them gone so bad you're rooting for the coaches to prove you right on an internet chat board so you look smart. Thus you say you are fans but in reality you care about your ecred and agenda more.

Spin how you want but if we lose you will have the best week of your life posting all over VN. If we win then you have to spin everyone's words and keep pushing your agenda.

You can fools others but I know way too many people like you.

This has to be the dumbest, weakest idea ive ever heard. Never once have i rooted for the vols to lose and ive only seen one poster that has.
Show me a post during the GT game where i c"cued up a pitchfork."

Its a noble thing you do, blindly following a coach that is wasting tons of talent. I guess it puts you on some moral highground. It kind of reminds me of current politics when they politicians have no valid argument for the facts presented so they scream racism.

Keep up the good work and good luck defending a coaching staff that allows over 600 yards per game when the inevitable happens, assuming of course it continues.

Your answer was factual and far too many Vols are pessimistic because of our record dating back to the 90's. Was nothing wrong with your answer. I just disagree with that line of thought

Are people saying thats the reason we lose, or why they are pessimistic about the game?

Oh my god. What will it mean if the inevitable doesn't happen? Could there be time-space ramifications? I'm frightened.

What do you mean? Our defense is bad regardless of the amount of threads telling us its good, its not. And thus far, it looks like a continuation from last season so i dont see it changing. If it does and they improve, then of course because that likely means we win alot of games.
This notion that people just hate the coach for no reason is just stupid. If we are winning at a high level, noone cares who the coach is. Im loyal to the vols, not some dude making 4 million a year to coach here temporarily to waste a bunch of talent and tell us how good he is at 8 and 4 and a mcb win and that only 27 players have played in Florida. Noone cares, win the game
I hope their is a street named after him with a st statue in front of the main gate, cause that means he won.

Not just a lot of yards against Georgia Tech...most rushing yards allowed in the HISTORY of UT football. If that doesn't concern you, nothing will. That being said, I think UT eeks out a win.

This all day, I'm not being a NegaVol when I say I have concerns about the defense, WE ALLOWED THE MOST RUSHING YARDS IN OUR SCHOOL'S HISTORY. Let that sink in for a minute. Now ask yourself again sunshine pumpers. Am I concerned about our run defense if your answer is anything other than yes, your are delusional and should seek medical treatment .

Nope. It's far easier to say WGWTFA 15-0 national champs!!!!

But when you take the time to look at the facts, our defense is not good and it hasn't been good since Shoop arrived. Other than the second half Florida game last year, our defense has been questionable at best.

We are a chip shot missed FG away from losing GA tech this year and Appalachian State last year. Unacceptable.

it's an assumption that it continues is all i was getting at. i've explained my thoughts on the defense and some possible reasons why it's been what it's been so far.

we disagree on that, and that's fine. i can't, and haven't, tell you our defense is good.

all i can say is that from what i've seen, i've not seen anything that says we've really even tried to do anything defensively speaking. it's been very basic in all aspects (and this is where we differ, i think) and i just can't believe that's the plan for the season.

if it is, then it will continue as you've outlined. i don't think it will.

the only truth here is, we're gonna find out starting saturday.

as for the head coach, we'll probably agree more than disagree.
