Why should Fulmer be fired?

If Hamilton fires Fulmer and gives it to one of the guys on the staff now I think I will probably cry.

Well, let the AD hire a new coach and see how far we get. The logical approach is to give it about 4-5 more seasons having a great winning % and handing it over to Cut.

We're still awaiting the part where you criticize our ability to recognize your sarcasm.

uh, no. i do think that there is time limit on how many years you can continue to lose 3-4 games a year...if you are doing that every year you are more than likely losing to a combination of Bama, SC, GA, and/or FL year in and year out. that is not acceptable. have one of those every now and then, fine, but for that to be the norm, we call that South Carolina.
Yeah, 4 or 5 more 9-4, 8-5 type seasons will put the program in great shape. If this garbage is allowed to go on for four more years, UT should drop football.
don't know if i would go that far, but i agree with you i do. 4-5 years of 8-4/9-4 type years...and we'd be way over due on some serious changes.

I think Phil's time has passed. The team never looks prepared and he seems confused during critical times. The discipline is still lacking. Players who don't go to class, make their grades, break the law or violate team rules should be booted off the team. The team is becoming a joke. I'm as disappointed as I've been in following the Vols for forty years. Forget National Title. We won't see another SEC Championship as long as Phil and his coaching staff remain.

You are correct. It is similar to the situation that happened at Texas A&M with good ole home grown RC Slocum. They kept letting him stay on with a program in decline because of his previous sucess. When he left the cupboard was bare and only now is Fran starting to pull A&M out of the doldrums.

the difference being here that the cupboard isn't exactly bare, and it probably won't be for the next 4-5 years.

No. This is completely different than A&M rockydoc. This program is not in decline in any way. 9-4 is more like in neutral. We can definatly do better things after this year...WITH Fulmer

Are we seeing the same football team?:clapping:

Remember this:
Orange Bowl beatdown by Nebraska, after the game Coach Fulmer says, we've got to get more physical!
Cotton Bowl blunder in the snow by a Sorry Kansas State, Coach Fulmer states, we've got to get back to playing Tennessee football.
Peach Bowl Part 1 Maryland whips us, Coach Fulmer response, we've got to get more physical!
Peach Bowl Part 2, The world beater Clemson schooled us in this one. Coach Fulmer states, we've got to get back to playing Tennessee football.
Outback Bowl, fizzle in drizzle compliments of Penn State. Coach Fulmer states we got work like "HECK" and get back to playing Tennessee football.

These kind of statements just baffle me. I enjoy that famous line used after each regular season game in the post game radio show that goes like this, We got to go look at the film. Bull$&!+.:salute:

heck i can't remember what tennessee football was. haven't seen it in 5 years.

I do not like the product we put on the field. 2-5 bowl record is pitiful for a top notch football program. Losses in big games and end of game collapses (Florida-twice, LSU) I am not asking for us to be in a SEC Championship every year, but I would like to see our team fired up and ready to play 90% of the time. There is no way we should have lost this years bowl game. Just never really went out and looked like we wanted to win. Teams like Boise, Georgia (2nd half) these are the efforts that I would like to see our team strive to be like.

It was only a few months ago, and offensively, we played Tennessee football in the Air Force game too.

I guess after the Penn St. (lack of) performance, we now know why they don't put the bowl game highlights on the year-end season highlights DVD. Zero-tolerance Phil didn't seem to have the team any of the three : "Fired-up, focused, and prepared."

Keep him! There are plenty of university programs that would like to have had the record that Phil Fulmer has had since being head coach at UT. There are at least 25 or more schools that would love to have him as head coach and get the talent he has got at UT! One cannot expect a 10 win season every year. It helps. Beating the Gators is the #1 priority! We have to beat the Gators to have a half way decent chance to win the SEC East. If we lose to the Gators, we cannot expect USC, UGA, Bama, LSU or Arkansas to beat them and help us out.
The Vols have beaten some very good top ranked teams outside the SEC-Cal, Notre Dame. Turnovers in bowl games or any game makes a difference in whether one loses or wins.
Keep Fulmer!
Is there better out there? Maybe? How will the team do under another coach? That depends on how good of a recruiting program the coach does and what he keeps.

Actually, there are more than that. Out of the 75-80 or so DIV I-A schools that are pretenders most of the time, they would love to have Fulmer. The good programs would not.

Now that bowl teams play 13-14 games, 10 wins is exactly what you should expect for an elite program.

People need to get off of this antiquated "magical" 10 win season thing. Looking at number of losses is more descriptive.

No he shouldn't be fired, if anyones fired send Roper packing. His RBs' stunk this year.

it's his first year, he's gotten nothing but praise from anyone that talks about him, plus he had a horrible offensive line blocking for his rb's. fulmer's supposed to be an offensive line guy. give me a break on roper
