Why should Fulmer be fired?

We really need a breath of fresh air into our football program, but until Fulmer has another losing season, I don't think Hamilton has the guts to fire him. The national championship was great, but it's now hurting us because ever since then Fulmer can do no wrong according to the UT administration.

Coming from a Fulmer fan and supporter of many years, it's time for a change...

Our record over time looks good, but when you break it down like that, it speaks for itself. The only teams we are consistantly better than are UK, Vandy, and SC, and not much there.

Thank you, that post opened my eyes a little bit. That cant be sugarcoated.

Welcome to the fold.

Welcome to the fold.

Dont interpret that as Im now a Fulmer hater, I still appreciate him and think he is a great rep for our program... We wouldnt be where we are without him, in a positive way.

But at some point, being a great recruiter doesnt excuse lack of game coaching skill if the talent isnt putting out. We've always known he wasnt a top tier coach in the sense of game decisions, but when you are winning 11 games, it's hard to argue with... When the talent stops winning you games, something has to, and for most top programs, good coaching does, doesnt seem to be happening for us.

I'm pretty sure most of the people that want Fulmer to leave don't hate him. The only thing I don't like about him is his management of the football team.

I used to, but not so sure after seeing our leading rusher this season touch the ball 5 times all game. To me, that's horrible management. If it's me, im on the horn to Cut saying "get that fast SOB the ball"...

I definately dont hate Fulmer. Im sure he's a nice man, educated, friendly, etc. I dont question his love for UT. He truly bleeds Orange. But he just isnt getting the job done.

I understand, just remember, there are some who dont like him b/c of his coaching but choose to take the low road and throw senseless insults at him... I classify those as Fulmer haters, i wasnt insinuating you were in that group at all.

I can definitely appreciate the SEC championships and the one national title. We all can, I'm sure; however, Fulmer is now about as relevant as Johnny Majors was when he took over. He's too conservative, predictable and is consistantly disappointing the fan base, year after year. Sure, the SEC is a tough conference and everyone has up and down years. Tennessee just always seems to be in the middle of the pack...not usually as low as a Mississippi State or Vandy, but not ever a Florida, Auburn, or LSU.

The Vols have lost 5 out of the last 7 bowl games and haven't had a championship in what is creeping up to 10 years. Last year wasn't so bad in retrospect since they didn't even have the option to show up to a bowl and lose. Everyone hated Randy Sanders last year, but look what he's done with Woodson at Kentucky. Perhaps the problem is a lack of discipline on and off the field and Coach Fulmer's inability to motivate and shouldn't be placed on other's shoulders. Heck, millions of dollars and 15 years on the same job might make any one of us complacent. After all, what else does he have to accomplish?

One another note, the academic problems are unacceptable with Coker, Brett Smith, etc. The arrests and attitude problems from the last few years are giving the program a poor reputation and have obviously spilled onto the field in the lack of disciplined play and consistency.

Folks, all I can say is that it is a sad day when Tennesee fans find 9-4 mediocrity acceptable or great since it is an improvement on last year. All I can simply say is that I dare the University to up the face value of a ticket to a game. I would rather sit at home and watch them choke in the big games than to shell out the $$ to see it in person. It will take some serious attitude and performance changes for me to deal with the game day traffic and outrageous parking prices.

I hear alot of people saying how much things have improved over last year.. ok fine.. if things improve in 2007 fine otherwise its time to look for some new blood.

i think the problem with this loss is the way we lost.

Look , i hate losing. but when we get beat by a better team, there's not much i can really say. I hated losing to FL, LSU and ARK, but after each one of those games, i never had the feeling like we gave the game away. we played well (excep the ARK game) but the other team played better and won.

i don't like it, but i can live with that...

but it's games like on Monday that i hate. we beat ourselves, we played like crap and made mistakes.

and it culminated in a demoralizing loss.

Personally, i just want to see a team that is consistent. and for about 8 games this season, they were fairly consistent. then the wheels came off a bit towrad the end.

just a sour note to end the season on.

and i don't see us making drastic improvements next year. we may be a little better, but next season will probably be a lot like this year. Road trips will be tough next year and looking at UGA and USC, both should be expected to be better.

but i just can't stand beating ourselves. that's what bugs me more than anything.

I'd like to see UT hire a coach that has a little bit of the Big Ten in him as well as some SEC. PSU ran all over us. We need to instill that Big Ten toughness in our players.

Look at the so-called great coaches out there. JoePa, Bobby Bowden, etc. Do they win a chapionship every year? No. Do they win their conference every year? No. Do they win either every other year and so on? No. So, what's the difference between them and our coach? In my opinion, nothing. We're in the toughest college football conference and yet we normally make it to a bowl game. Like many other championship teams, it will take some miracles/breaks to go undefeated and make it to the BCS title game. We could've easily been in the same shoes as UF this season. When EA went down with an injury, so did our season. If he's healthy, we more than likely win those games. We're due for a championship ride in the future. When that happens, the same people wishing for Fulmer to be gone will annoint him the SEC God. Be careful what you wish for. We can hire a new coach and be one of the worst teams in the SEC for years to come. It's always better to stay with a coach who is confortable with the system and will live and die for his Alma Mata. I garantee that the right type of leadership from veteran players ala Al Wilson will bring us a great season. Just be patient. You guys are getting more and more like the Nebraskas and Michigans by the minute. The '98-'99 seasons spoil many of you. Deal with reality. We recruit nationally and the talent is not always a given.

Come on molsen, let's not be logical. Logic drives people crazy on here.

The 99 season was a complete disappointment and showed just how badly our coaches utilize talent. We have tons of talent. That is always a given. Erik Ainge was playing against PSU. What's the excuse for that crap fest UT called a football game? Give it up, your arguments are weak.

You aksed for it so I'm giving it to you. Not to put it on one person, but we lost the Outback due to AF's fumble. We were driving for a score and I believe that score would've been the dagger. It goes that way sometimes. PSU had a great defense this season. Once again, I'm trying to be logical, but you guys want a championship every season. So I guess TCHFCATUTK should step down because the next coach is going to bring us championships every year of his contract right?

Scoring a TD with over ten minutes in the game to make it 17-10 is in no way a "dagger". I guarantee you every Volunteer on the team will admit that Arian wasn't the only one who played poorly. PSU had a great defense. We had a great offense. We should be able to score more than ten points on anyone in the country, including Ohio State. Ten points is pathetic. No one wants a championship every year. One every decade would be great at this point. I'd also like to defeat a quality opponent that isn't an overrated, soft, beat-nobody team from the Pac-10.

Well, let the AD hire a new coach and see how far we get. The logical approach is to give it about 4-5 more seasons having a great winning % and handing it over to Cut.

Yeah, 4 or 5 more 9-4, 8-5 type seasons will put the program in great shape. If this garbage is allowed to go on for four more years, UT should drop football.

So we can make it a total of 12-13 seasons without an SEC Title?! NO THANK YOU

I dont expect a nc every year or every other year.. how about beating florida to start with.. how many sec teams are really worried about coming to play in Knoxville? seems we have sort of lost home field advantage over the years.
