Why is Butch Jones (still) hated so much?

In terms of your record saying what you are or whatever the Bill Parcells line was-I fully agree.

Just saying peel back a couple of layers on the onion and the picture looks a bit different.

They win their games against us and UF (both were roughly one score losses) and they are in the back end of their schedule with a 4-2 record with wins over 2 top 15 teams and a top 5 team.

I doubt Muschump gets fired at that point with a 4-2 record

Like I said the team kinda fell apart after Mike Bobo was named interim coach and they got shellacked every game. 3 of the 4 games with Bobo "should" have been winnable on paper-Ole Miss (Lanes first year there), KY, and Mizzou.

I was dating a Gamecock alum girly at that time so I had to watch WAY more South Carolina football than I really wanted to ha ha. Covid made us all so crazy things I suppose lol.
There are hundreds of bad teams you can say that about. They were really bad

Seems that many threads turn into eith a Jones or Kiffin bashing thread. Don’t get me wrong; I hate CLK came in and ran half the team off and had virtually none of his recruiting class pan out and, Jones never could get over the hill. But, there seems to be more hatred towards Jones on VN threads than any of the other coaches and this includes Pruitt.

Is it because more was expected of him or that we didn’t really expect more from the other coaches? I mean, Pruitt could have completely devastated the program but yet he doesn’t seem the most disliked of our coaches. Jones was like forever and three coaches ago but, again, he’s beat down still and a lot.
Cause he did dumb stuff and didn’t try on the way out. Seems like he purposefully tanked that last season in anyway he could. That’s why a wasp needs to sting that boy on the face.

No one has ever embarrassed this university like Butch. Anyone involved with hiring/extending him at Tennessee should be run out of Knoxville if they haven’t already.

I agree with everything that has been said but came to post this one. His contract said UT had to pay him ~$12 million, but he was required to make a reasonable effort to obtain comparable employment to offset the buyout. Instead, he brought Nick Saban coffee for next to no money. When the UT buyout payments were finished, he immediately found someone dumb enough to give him another head coaching job.

It always irked me that UT didn't cut off his payments for breach of contract.
The current (and excellent) admin would have 100%!!!

Haven’t seen this posted: he was known to be a complete ahole and shady!!! I’m sure there are people around here that can share stories.

Wait, you hated hiring guys with little head coaching experience yet you're fine with the guy who had the absolute least amount of head coaching experience before getting here? Makes sense.
Yeah he turned out to be a real crappy coach huh? Pruitt had the least amount of head coaching experince, Kiffin at least was head coach of the Raiders before getting fired, He came here with the promise of loading up with top coaches and he did that and he also was a rockstar on the recruiting trail....Does that help you understand a little better? 🤣

Who?

Probably because of all of his stupid sayings and then being photographed smoking cigars with a bunch of butt picking Bammers
It's the cigars against his own players.

Idc about the low salary (I would of done the same)

Idc about going to coach under Saban (I would of done the same)

Idc about him sucking as a coach (I would of done the same given the chance to be the HC of UT)

That and I think he lied to Hurd and took away what could have been our new all time leading rusher.

No, because you only listed Kiffin, Dooley, and Jones and only said that you hated hiring guys with little head coaching experience. You never mentioned any of the other aspects, so I only addressed the aspects that were given. And at Tennessee? Yeah, he was incredibly crappy given if he didn't tuck tail and run we would've been under as much crap as we were under Pruitt with the NCAA.

Wasting talent
Losing to the worse Florida teams I have ever seen.
2014 lost 10-9
2015 - couldn't stop 4th downs, dobbs balled out
16 won
17 lost on a bust coverage hail mary

The hatred should be on the ADs that brought Dooley, Jones, and Pruitt here. Not a one of them had the resume to be the Tennessee coach.
Especially Dooley. Pruitt’s history as an elite coordinator at Bama, FSU, and Georgia tracks with other successful hires in the past (Stoops at OU, Kirby at UGA). Butch had been a conference championship head coach at a lower level, which has led to successful major coaching hires in the past (Meyer, Tressell, Brian Kelly).

Dooley was a losing coach (5-7) at Louisiana Tech who had never been a coordinator prior to getting the HC gig there. That hire made zero sense.

Dooley was a panic hire by an AD who was giving off vibes of being incompetent. A shrewd AD would've promoted Kippy Brown to interim HC for 2010 and rode out that season while conducting a year long, nationwide search (and if Brown had a great year he would've been one of the top candidates considered IMO)

Time to close the chapter on the darkest period of our 120+ year history. There really isn’t much that separates the 4 coaches during those ‘unlucky’ 13 years from 2008-2020. They were all well below what our standard should have been.

1. His dumbass quotes.
2. Running the same pistol formation even with qb's who were never going to run. (Worley)
3. Smoking a cigar in Bama's locker room the first year we was at Bama AFTER making a video about walking over to Lindsey Nelson and telling them to stop playing Sweet Home Alabama.
4. His talent evaluation or lack thereof. Alvin Kamara......
5. He couldn't pronounce Vols.

He’s a liar, a fraud, a nerd. List goes on and on. We were a constant laughing stock after every media interview. There’s probably a lot I missed here. He’s easily my most disliked coach and it’s not particularly close.

1) 5 star hearts
2) champions of life
3) brick by brick
4) most followed coach in America (due to buying Twitter followers)
5) He fell on a helmet and that’s the truth
6) title 9 fiasco
7) punched a player (turned out he was a pedo though so maybe I don’t hold it against him)
8) his purple face
9) punting at the 1 inch line and losing to Oklahoma in 2015
10) 2014/2015 Florida choke jobs
11) Ruining the Dobbs Hail Mary with his fake act of going down on 1 knee
12) Putting us in the position to even need the Dobbs Hail Mary to win - may be this goes on his DC though
13) Mismanagement of Hurd/Kamara
14) The no-read option offense
15) Year 0 crap/7 years to rebuild a program
16) Constantly talking about fake news/negativity from fans/media
17) Claiming his system was infallible
18) Hiring a MAC level coaching staff and having the nerve to say he had the best coaching staff in America
19) Leadership reps
20) Wore shoes with lifts
21) Wore a girdle
22) The lack of awareness to celebrate with a cigar/Bama players when they were clearly mocking him. He “built” the program they just beat and beat them down badly.
23) Bragging about winning 8 games back to back seasons
24) Claiming said years were some of the best years in the last 20 years of Tennessee football
25) Turnover trash can
26) I did my research did you do your research?
27) Let me educate you
28) Putting people’s names on a list that he put in his back pocket for later
29) His 2pt/extra point chart he referenced in 2015 Florida that was clearly wrong

Can’t believe I overlooked the Jumbotron. He honestly thought he should be up there next to the likes of Al Wilson, Neyland, Reggie White, etc? LOL. Then we had to look at it for months even after he was fired.
