Why has Omar Payne gotten no action after the game from Florida or the SEC ?

What do you want me to say? Payne was completely in the wrong and I think some sort of punishment is warranted. I'm just not sure what it ought to be and when it should be. A suspension right at the start of the NCAA tournament? That seems to just aim to defeat the team for the action of one player. I don't think anyone contends that Payne meant to cause as serious an injury as he did. In fact, I imagine that those kind of elbow throws occur in the course of many NCAA games but this one stands out because of the magnitude of the injury.

Is that a factor in punishment? Of course. But you can't let it dictate the sanction. Otherwise you overreact to this one to the detriment of all the other times when the intent is the same but no one particularly notices or cares because no injury resulted.
Simple. He should be unable to play as long as Fulkerson is unable to play.

Danny White is the person responsible for making an appeal on behalf of the University of Tennessee because he is the head honcho of the athletic department. Danny White can’t suspend Payne, reprimand Payne, or tell UF what to do, but he can file a complaint to the SEC office.

You don't know that he never did this. He has no obligation to air out everything he does on Twitter.

If no complaint is filed, then Sankey is not going to unilaterally take action.

Disagree. Sankey knows what he did. Jauan Jennings didn't get suspended for stepping on the Vandy player because of anything Vandy did. Sankey made that call himself because Jennings would've gotten off scot-free otherwise, since there was no in-game punishment. It's not like Payne didn't get punished at all. He got ejected from an SEC Tournament game which is a pretty big deal. While I'd agree that the action warranted more than that, again that's beyond UT's jurisdiction to actually make happen.

In effect, it’s up to Danny to make sure he’s done his part.

Again, you don't know he didn't.

On the other hand, Mike White could have, and should have, suspended Payne. I’m not talking about one game. That would be absurd. If Payne is allowed to play tomorrow, it wreaks of politics and misdeeds.

Agree. But again, what UF does or doesn't do isn't something UT can control.

You (pl) are missing an important element in this situation. It is very much to the SEC's benefit to have its teams win as many games as possible in the tourny. Fla looks to be a team that can advance . Therefore, it is counterproductive to take action at this time. "It's all about the Benjamins."

This flagrant 2 was much more malicious and damaging than Jauan Jennings’ stepping on the Vandy player. Sankey had no problem suspending Jennings for the first half of UT’s subsequent bowl game. Justice seems arbitrary in the SEC.
There was no punishment against Jennings in the game. That's why he was suspended

I can't for the life of me see how this gets around the ironclad NCAA rule about fighting and how the next game is a mandatory suspension. And yes, the entire damn team should be punished if a player pulls something like this if you consider suspending a player punishing the entire team. That way Payne can know he let his entire team down by his selfish and frankly, criminal action.

Just stop. There is NO DEFENSE for what happened, yet you keep trying to argue your case. STOP IT. Your ignorance grows with each comment.

Huh? How am I defending it? No one is defending it, not even Payne.

The question is simply what should the punishment be.

If the shoe was on the other foot I'd feel the same way you do.

But if the guy has apologized, admitted he was wrong in every respect, and the apology has been accepted, any "punishment" you theorize about is just retribution. That is sometimes its own goal, but is it worth it? Does that have any real value other than to make UT fans feel better?
Yes it does. It equalizes the situation. If Payne's deliberate act causes Fulky to miss games then Payne should not be allowed to play again until Fulky can. Fair is fair.

The answer is very obvious and simple. At the very minimum a suspension in tomorrow's game. If I'm the UF AD, I go ahead and suspend him for the rest of the season, especially since it would most likely only be tomorrow anyway.

That sets a precedent of punishing players who commit intentional and especially egregious acts while not being too harsh of a punishment.

You yourself said he needs to be punished, and I suspect you're subconsciously trying to rationalize that he's already served appropriate punishment, which you've already implied that he has not.

Are you aware that Danny White is the brother of Mike White.

I hate to agree with a gator but you are spot on. Elbows happen in basketball all the time, evidently that is not common knowledge to folks who have never played the game. Was it a cheap shot yes, but he was ejected from the game. He didn’t mean to hurt Fulkerson, and has already apologized. Some people just can’t let it go.

LMAO.........hilarious

What should dictate the consequence is that his punishment should at least
result in missing the same amount of time as the injured participant due to a malicious act that had not a damn thing to do in the game, except why he did it for : physical harm and intimidation . He did it .......who gives a dang if it is NCAA tournament? Dirty Dirty

Inadvertant elbows happen. Elbows get stuck out to annoy people. A guy obviously winding up and swinging his elbow at a guy above the shoulders . . . TWICE . . . is over the top and definitely does NOT happen all the time. This argument that he didn't mean to hurt anybody is laughable. Why else would anybody flagrantly swing an elbow, punch, kick or head butt somebody?
He’s really looking quite intelligent, eh? There was intent, he accomplished his objective and then some, and he tweeted what was most likely a forced apology. I can’t read what’s in his heart, but I have my doubts.

It has nothing to do with retribution to me. If he had done that on the streets he would charged with assault. There should be some sort of consequence.

I hope Fulkerson is able to suit up again. It's disgraceful that his UT career could end on a cheap shot that was 100% intentional with intent to do harm. If Payne being suspended for UF's NCCA tourney game punishes the team and "somehow" played a hand in the loss, so be it. UT could've used Fulkerson against Bama in the SEC Tournament and moving forward in the NCAA. Omar Payne's actions are definitely punishing UT's team. Why can't UF's team be punished in a similar fashion?

You‘re making too much sense there, Capt. Gator guy disagrees, but you squarely hit the nail on the head. It just amazes me at the arrogance Gator has to be on an opposing team’s board and to try to make an argument that we as Tennessee fans are seeking retribution. It amazes me, yet doesn’t amaze me that his bombastic arguments continue.

Our AD is very PR savvy. He could have given Parrish, Thamel, etc. some quotes to do a national story about how Payne gets to play but Fulky doesnt. That woulda increased the PR pressure for the SEC to do something.

The way it looks now is he's not sticking up for his team but helping his brother out...

Danny White has no authority on what happens to Payne from here on out.

Not to mention Sankey doesn’t give a sh*t unless it involves Bama.

Retribution would be two elbows in return to Payne's face. Also, UT losing Fulkerson is not equitable to Payne being out/suspended for UF.
