Why Green?

he forgot how to recuit? if that is the fact then he can learn again rather quickly .. like riding a bike

I disagree with this completely. It takes years sometimes to make connections with high school coaches and inroads into the recruiting hotbeds. I very seriously doubt that Buddy has that based on the talent he has and the recruiting he has done at Navy and I don't think we have time to allow him to cultivate those relationships. JMHO.

Remember.....service academy players are appointed by the U.S. Congress, not recruited per se'. Their test scores have to be off the charts also.

So, if he's hired, you think he's going to continue to recruit the same players to UT?

How can you be convinced that he has the ability to do otherwise. Does he have any recruiting relationships established with any of the high school coaches or within the recruiting hotbeds? I doubt it since he hasn't been recruiting the SEC calibre kid. That takes a long time to develop.

Of course not. But he is a national recruiter so that is a good thing. I'm sure he can get into a lot more HSs than we can now. Just a thought...

Thanks OCI for the breakdown. I'm sure 3-4 won't be implemented right away but it will be tested out some next yr. Especially with McCullers.

He isn't big splash but I wouldn't mind the hire if cdd and hart believe it's best for the foundation. The discipline and fundamentals this guy could bring to our team would be a great improvement.

I went on the navy forum yesterday and they were talking about this. Many were making fun of all the negavols talking bad about him with not knowing him and honestly I got a little scared for my life. Just sayin...

Buddy Green should not even be in consideration for the DC job at Tennessee under any circumstance. Its ridiculous that we have to stoop this low. The fans wont be happy with the hire, and more importantly, the recruits wont be happy with it either. We can do much better than Buddy Green.

I'm sorry but if you want me to get on board with a 60+ year old coach with health issues that hasn't recruited big time football players in over a decade, I can't do it.

I agree. The more I read about him the more I like. Excellent point on the fundamentals also.

I understand where you are coming from. But it may be a very good hire, who knows, it could be awful too.

I would say recruiting is 60% coaching up talent is 40%

Also by your rationale you say go ahead and hire Green to keep a few recruits for this year- okay but what about recruiting the class of 2013? Or 2014(Berry brothers)? Don't forsake the future recruiting by hastily hiring a guy now to save a few in this class.

So if you think coaching up talent is 40% then Green is a great choice for that. That's all he has had to do at Navy. He gets smart athletic guys and turns them into players and has a pretty decent winning track record with those types of players.

Everyone said he would be loyal and a good coach. Of course he isn't going anywhere. He is closer to retirement than I care for and is old enough to be Dooley's dad. Recruiting is difficult, cutthroat, and tiring. Recruiting for TN is even tougher than at some of our rivals. I do not like him as a candidate period. He is too old.

Well considering most of our top defensive commits Santos, Peters, McNeil, are all waiting on a DC announcement something tells me they wont be very happy with DC who's defense was ranked 86 nationally this past year. That wont cut it in the SEC, and furthermore, the guy has little to no recruiting experience. At least not at Navy, that's for sure. He's not right for a job of this caliber.

This staff needs recruiters that can fill the void left by Sirmon. Buddy probably forgot how to recruit. This is my biggest gripe about him.

Well the good news is that we just don't know if he "probably forgot how to recruit". There is no need to get upset about a hypothetical anymore than there is a need to be overly happy about one (Randy Shannon anyone?). You are right that MIGHT be a weakness, but I would bet that is part of the equation that is looked at when deciding who to hire.

Exactly! Who knows....about...RS, SS, Green, Steele, Gruden, etc etc?

Dooley knows what he wants and needs to get his plan in order. We have to let him do it.
