If Buddy Green is Dooley's pick for DC, here's what it means:
(1) We're converting to a 3-4 defense and need a DC that knows how to implement it from a tactical standpoint;
(2) Dooley is choosing a DC with a proven track record of success on the field;
(3) Dooley is looking for stability because Buddy Green is loyal and unlikely to up and leave after a few years (he's been at Navy for 10 years);
(4) Green likely gets paid $500K, and Dooley will have more money to spend on filling out the remainder of the staff;
(5) Green's recruiting abilities are entirely unknown because he has been at a service academy (although our last DC didn't do a whole lot of lead recruiting either);
(6) Expect Dooley to fill the OL coach and DL/LB coach with top-notch recruiters;
(7) Thompson is not leaving
I don't know about that. Can you imagine how difficult it is to talk a recruit into committing to a service academy?
The caliber of recruit they are convincing is a little different than what UT needs to win. Stephon Diggs, DJ Humphries, Dalton Santos, Pig Howard, Johnathon Gray, and DGB aren't going in the service. We need coaches with experience recruiting the big boys, not smaller targets.
I had the same thought! However that Alaskian Coast Guard are some bad mofos as well!Really, Dooley is just trying to compile of staff that will take over the Joint Special Operations Command. First, he hires McKeefery from USASOC, now he hires Green from the Navy. Next hire will be Stanley McChrystal to run the offense.
Now if he could only get Petraeus to be the AD...

We don't have the d line to run a 3-4.
We would be much better off if we could land the McCullers kid. From there we could use Couch, Sentimore, Miller, Ayres, Saulsberry, Hood as the larger DE's which wouldn't be the most horrible thing in the world. It gives the opportunity for Jacques Smith to play OLB at least, along with Maggitt.
The scheme itself doesn't scare me as much as the actual coaching does, and the impact on recruiting.
