Why dont fans support this program no matter how bad the times get?

You do realize that community has done fine financially the last 100 years because of the University right? Until that changes I'd say that you have no clue what you are talking about. You guys act like the 200 bucks you spend on the Vols matter at all.
Lol when Tennessee football is bad, everyone suffers financially

We are not fair weather fans. We are just sick of losing to teams we aren’t supposed to lose to and getting blown out in games against the top-tier teams. A lot of us on this site fully remember when we were a top-tier team in this league. I can’t speak for everyone else, but I am just baffled as to why we can’t right the ship.

It’s kind of like you repeatedly purchasing a product/brand that continues not to meet your expectations. At some point you’re going to get frustrated and think about purchasing a different product/brand. Fortunately, most of the people on this site have way too much orange blood in their system to switch “brands”, but that doesn’t make the frustration any less.

Dang Pulaski, all that wailing and gnashing of your teeth earlier, has really gotten you off of your game.

Being from Alabama, Pruitt admits he proved himself at MTSU before moving on to the Crimson Tide...Pruitt said he was grateful that he was allowed to leave MTSU simply because he had always wanted to to play for the Crimson Tide.
"I wanted to go play at a school that I kind of had always dreamed of playing at," Pruitt said. "I was allowed to do that. They let me do it. I didn't sit out. I went and played."

UT Vols coach Jeremy Pruitt reacts to Nick Saban's comments on transfer
That's not why you said he went to MTSU, change the goal posts much to fit your narrative? Of course he dreamed of playing there and when he went to MTSU I'm sure he thought that dream was over at the time, he got lucky for him the way it played out at the time. I guess you think MTSU was a pipeline to Tuscaloosa back then.

Boyd found 9 others to come up with the cash to keep Barnes. If any of the big money boosters had faith that Fulmer would hire the right coach to replace Pruitt, I'd bet Boyd could talk them into parting with their money to buy him out.
The more I read your posts, the more I think you got some inside connections 😂

One of the more astute posts I have ever read, why are you bad at this?

Not fair weather. I have high expectations. I’m a UT Grad and love the Vols. You need to remove the orange glasses and see what’s happening. This coach is not giving his all for Tennessee. He keeps making the same mistakes. That doesn’t fly where I work and he gets away with it weekly.

I would contend that the fanbase still financially supports the program. People are still buying Tennessee products and buying tickets, when they can. Even when Tennessee is losing, they put more fans in the stadium than the average college football team. Obviously 2020 is a weird year to gauge financials, but every year prior to this shows this.

And ultimately financial support is the only kind of support that matters. Positive vibes or internet posts don’t win football games.

I think Pruitt tried to do well, he just is in over his head when it comes to being head coach. I don't think he cares much for UT itself, and is now just here for the paycheck, as is rather evident from his attitude. To be fair, I remember Kiffin trying to make things more "USC-like" when he came here, so I guess he isn't the first to not embrace the tradition. If we were Vandy or UT Chattanooga, Pruitt might have been a great hire.

As far as people's frustrations.... I see the VOLS as a badly run business, that is driving away its customer base with poor decisions that lead to poor value for the buck. I think Fulmer got lucky with the Barnes situation. If there is truth to the rumors of the AD being in financial straits, COVID or not, that only further demonstrates how ill-equipped Fulmer is for the AD position. Fulmer got fired as a coach because he was behind the times from a philosophy standpoint and was not an innovator/could not come up with new wrinkles/schemes to try to keep up with the influx of talented coaches. Cutcliffe was the only person he trusted to change things up at all, so whenever he left you saw things go in the tank. Now with Fulmer back, we have a "philosophy" that looks an awful lot like the old one we had with Fulmer that got him fired. This adherence to this philosophy or mindset was even mentioned during the OC search 2 years ago as reasons why we passed on a lot of the hotter options. JG himself doesn't help things, but this requirement to do things a certain way just seems to be the basis for all these poor decisions and the teams' struggles. How can other teams have less highly recruited OL players yet look better? How can teams play freshman QBs and look better than our 5th yr senior? Why is this player with one of the worst ratings in not just the SEC, but the NCAA, the one who "gives us the best chance to win".

IMHO, I don't think Pruitt likes to fail. I just don't believe that his professional investment in not failing has anything to do with the University of Tennessee, but rather in his desire to one day be the Head Coach at the University of Alabama. An opportunity that will most likely never materialize now.

What else does he have to coach for now at UT other than the continued paycheck?

It certainly started the process. The NegaVols ran off every single prominent VFL other than Peyton and Condredge from the athletic department and the hiring of dipsticks without ties to the University ripped our football program apart, so yes, the complaining the NegaVols did 12 years ago played a role.

Yeah the fans are the problem$&@“%^*++

Boyd found the cash to keep Barnes, including using his own money. If it had been left up to Fulmer, he'd have gone to UCLA.

The way I understand it is Barnes was gone but UCLA wasn’t going to pay his buyout, that would have came out of Barnes’ pocket and he decided he wasn’t doing that. In reality we overpaid for a coach that wasn’t going anywhere.

Did you need the upper part of the quote in bold as well for your reading comprehension to kick in, or are you just going to play the game where Pruitt's own words mean nothing? Let me repost it for you, and bold the other important part.

If Pruitt was capable of making the Alabama squad as a freshman, why would he feel the need to go to MTSU to "prove himself" before transferring to Alabama? Are you actually insinuating, that Pruitt chose to got to MTSU, for love of the state of Tennessee, over going to Alabama, a school that he "kind of had always dreamed of playing at"?

You have made some completely nonsensical posts, today especially, but you are really jumping the shark with this one.

You left out that he played at MTSU before Alabama and that he grew up closer to Fulmer's hometown than Tuscaloosa but no surprise as you never have anything positive to say about the Vols, our program, coaches or players. Thinking Pruitt is tanking because he's an Alabama, wow, how do you come up with such thought provoking ideas.

Nobody is claiming that Pruitt is tanking on purpose. That wasn’t even implied in his post.

Pruitt is just incompetent as a HC.

Dude, are you serious? After about 15 yrs you are tired of being disappointed and see other schools with less resources maximize their program while yours consistently underachieves. Supporting greed and incompetence isn’t being a fan.

You're talking about $50 million when you add up the salary we'll have to pay Freeze, Kiffin, Stoops or Cower plus the $60 million hit the program is facing this season, I'm sure we'll have no problem getting it. :)
Here, read up it may you from making a fool of yourself. It goes over the finances from this year and projects next year with and without Pruitt.

Nope, just a dude with a "University of Tennessee" Google Alert...

Documents show Boyd pledged up to $300,000 of his own money to create a bonus pool and found nine other supporters to join him. Together they created a pool of up to $3 million for Barnes, and spared UT from having to come up with the money itself.

At this point, it's just about impossible to call anybody that's still a Tennessee football fan a negaVol.
I think constructive criticism is always valid but no you aren’t a real fan if you cheer for other teams to beat UT.

Supporting UT means wanting the best for them, not supporting a garbage tier HC. That goes for ADs who can't pen a contract, boosters who meddle too much, and players that obviously don't put much effort into their game.

Those people are not supporting UT. Why would anyone who wants what is best for the program (relevancy, some quality wins, being competitive) support obvious losers as they keep driving it into the ground.

The General wouldn't support this clown show and neither should any other VOL fan.

Ok do you even know what a fair weather fan is?...UT has no fair weather fans...We haven't won in so long it impossible to have those...Some of us have been supporting them for over 50 years...Do we get pissed?...Damn right we do!...Why you ask, I figured you were gonna ask so I am going to go ahead and answer that for your entertainment and knowledge...SOME of us actually have families that donate a lot of money to the athletic department just for the privilege of ordering season tickets...SOME of us have been doing this for a long time and SOME of us do not feel we are getting our moneys worth right now because of a athletic department that takes its fans and customers for granted and hires joe blow johnny come lately coach who FAILS and so they fire him and go after another bargain basement hire and he will FAIL and the beat goes on and on...Going to games costs money, SOME of us actually go to the games and spend a lot of money while we are at the games...Food and drink is ridiculous not to mention travel expenses...So tell me how many games have you been to the past 5 years?...I am assuming not many or you would not have made this silly post...I am sure you will try and convince us you have been to every game in those 5 years but we all know you haven't...so before you go calling REAL VFL's bandwagoneers you go take a look in the mirror and think before you post...GO VOLS!

You don't have to be an alumnus or donor to be a fan. You don't have to be an alumnus or donor to have an opinion on Jeremy Pruitt's job performance (which has been poor). Here's the solution to the negativity: start winning. As long as we are mediocre or worse year after year, calling out fans who aren't pleased is asinine.
