You have a very poor understanding of what constitutes a fact. Contrary to popular belief among millennials, simply stating something does not render it into fact. So your stating that UT football is no longer relevant, in no way, shape, or form actually makes said statement true. And anyone who even tries with a straight face to claim that UT was irrelevant in football from 1992 through 2004 is simply a liar - no other way to couch it. We won the first BCS national championship and would have played for another one in 2001 were it not for wildly corrupt officiating in the SECCG that year.I spew truth. Sometimes it hurts.
Having graduated from both institutions and having multiple graduate degrees from UTK, and currently writing checks to UT for kids makes me uniquely qualified to offer my opinion.
I know my some of posts are less-than-favorable toward UT but when opinion only it is what it is and I won't get into pissing matches.
Unfortunately the numbers are what they are when comparing UT to UF and there's nothing left to dispute in facts.
I'll get to you tomorrow. But on a closing note, believing SOS quit because he lost to UT makes as much sense as thinking he quit because he won the Orange Bowl 56–23 and finished the season ranked number 3 in both polls. He quit because the AD (Foley) would not back his compliant against FSU's dirty play.Outside of 94-97, every single game was close in the Spurrier era with a few TN beat downs in 90 and 92 and coming into your house and beating you as 17 point favorites in your house resulting in Spurrier quitting. Again for the last 10 years we have had horrible coaches and everyone had beaten us including Florida. You know as well as I do that it takes a pretty special coach to lose to the same team two times in three years on Hail Marys.
This would have to come up several levels just to get to asinine. So now we're defining greatness or lack thereof by what the average twenty-year-old thinks? By that logic Kanye is a better musician than Mozart.Hate to break it to you but the average college football fan isn't 60 years old.
To the 20 to 45 year olds UT is positioned with the likes of the middle of the road P5 programs. Keep in mind a 45 year old only graduated college 22 years ago. To the average fan (age 20 to 45ish) UT falls squarely with KY, Purdue, NC State, etc.
Also UF football really launched in 1982 - 37 years ago. For those of working our way toward 60 the time frame feels most recent but to a 45 year-old, 37 years ago this fan was 8 years old. This person doesn't give a rats ass about football before this time frame.
I love UT and want nothing more than for UT to do well. But the average UT fan is just lost in the days past and just can't be objective.
Trying expressing an alternate opinion and you'll get your head chomped off.
Florida has owned us since the mid-70s, even more than AL who has also owned us. God...we even have a streak from the Nashville crowd hanging over us.
It's sickening, in the manner in which I assume being forced to watch a Tijuana donkey show would be.
What could have been if not for Spurrier.
ESPN doesn’t have the market cornered on “numskulls”... UT has hired plenty of them in the past 10-12 years.
You forgot 85
Ok, numskull.Go ahead and call me names.
That's okay. He counted 3 ties as wins for UT.
You guys are gluten for statiscal punishment.
Unfortunately the article is accurate.
Since 85 UT has won all of four conference titles. Of the four titles UT though crowned was not the best team. To the benefit of UT the Gators were on probation.
I wished it weren't true but UT has been mostly irrelevant in the modern era. I really don't see UT ever being consistently relevant again. I hope I'm wrong as I want UT to dominant for all the right reasons especially during my kids time on campus.
Basically the average college football fan sees UT in the same light as VaTech, NCState, Ole Miss, Purdue, etc.
You pretty much are an idiot. Living down there in that hell hole in Gainesville has really taken a toll on your brain. All your facts really mean nothing. Tennessee is a much better place to go to school, work and live. I mean when you look closely at the quality of life and the quality of people from one state to another there really is no comparison. Just look at you troll. Your facts are what you live for. Man try your best and get a life...UF football is destroying you brain..well what’s left of it.You really don't want me to post the factual numbers do you?
UT's record against UF since 1976 is 7 - 27.
UT has no (0) Heisman winners -- UF has 3
UT has 1 NC -- UF has 3
UT has won the SEC 4 times since 85 -- and two of those 85 and 90 came when the team with the best record UF was on probation.
If not for the probation effect UT would have 2 -- let that sink in -- SEC titles
Even during UT's best years UT could not defeat UF even with Peyton.
Go ahead and call me names. Volume and threats never win debates.
How else would any reasonable person interpret, "(although I do wish I would have run across a Gator fan/UT student trying to spew Gator garbage while I was at UT!)"
Were you implying you'd have given me a piece of your mind?
ESPN is filled with idiots.
Consider their article about the 50 best programs in college football history:
"Since Neyland, the Volunteers have spent considerable time as a second fiddle behind Bryant at Alabama and Steve Spurrier at Florida, with the glorious exception of 1998."
1998?
Without mentioning to this idiot that Bryant wasn't coaching in 1998, I'd tell him that we won SEC titles in 1956, 1967, 1969, 1985, 1989, 1990, 1997, and also beat Alabama in 1953, 1955, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1965, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004 and 2006.
So in summation to whichever imbecile wrote this 'article', we have beaten Alabama 31 times since Neyland was coach.
SO he can cram his "second fiddle since Neyland with the glorious exception of 1998" idiocy up his cramhole.

No he didn't. He counted all the years that UT didn't play second fiddle to Alabama.
Focus, Gump. Concentrate. Keep your eye on the ball.
