I'm afraid the harmonic progressions and creative dissonance they bring to their music far surpasses garden-variety Muzak. The quality of orchestration on some of the songs rivals Henry Mancini's works, in fact. But I'm a music theory and composition nerd, so I get into that stuff and can appreciate it.

If you're ever *really* bored, go listen to some tracks off of Fagen's solo works, particularly "The Nightfly" or his recent release, "Morph the Cat." Fagen's solo work, on a whole, is substantially jazzier than what is released under the Steely Dan name.

As for who's to blame, I'm targeting Bert Bertelkamp. He's been yelling "Money" so much the basketball gods finally yanked our line of credit.

They are appearing at the Hard Rock Live in Orlando,FL May 12.Maybe you should take HV with you LG, give you guys a chance to iron out some wrinkles and in the process convert HV over to a Steely Dan Groupie?:popcorn:

First, just when I thought there was no appreciation on this site of good pop culture, along comes HotlantaVol. A lone voice, joining mine in the wilderness, and trying to get people on here to quit listening to "Filter" and their ilk and to appreciate the finer things in life, such as the Dan.

As to hat, well, he feels the way he does. He can listen to his ABBA all he wants, his Maroon 5, his Jay-Z. Whatever floats his boat. I cannot make him see (or hear) what he does not want to, no matter how excellent it might be.

Incidentally, they are playing the New Orleans Jazz Festival the week before showing up here. Yeah, that venerable old hack of a venue, they have no idea what they are doing booking the Dan, do they?

I did get six tix to the HR show on May 12. Working on some other tix as the rumor is that they may show up in Atlanta (Chastain) and Clearwater. Hoping they do Sunfest, as I will then have to take the week off from work.

We are not worthy....
