Who was your first favorite college football player?



For me it’s Condrege Holloway.

Johnny Majors, used to listen to Vols games on the radio with my Dad. When I started going to games in 1970 it was Condrege Holloway and Jimmy Streeter, and Andy Spiva.

Willie Gault without a doubt.

I got to meet Gault at age 5 or 6 and I thought he was the greatest player on Earth, so he’d be my answer. But my first favorite player when I was actually watching games and following along was Tony Robinson. That 85 season was the first year I really paid attention. Tony is still probably my favorite Vol ever, although Shuler, Wilson, and Manning are close. Gotta put Hooker in that group now too.

Honorable Mention for me was Fuad Reveiz. 9 year old me was in the stadium for this kick. When you're 9 and see a 60 yard FG, it's tough to top.

For me it was Bobby Majors. Mom says as a 10 year old, snot nosed kid, that's all I talked about. That and Tennessee Football.

I guess I'll go with Ice Man Casey Clausen but Will Overstreet and Shawn Bryson were ones I also really enjoyed watching.

Watching in the NFL Vols, it would probably be Jason Witten. I didn't see Reggie White in the NFL as much because I wasn't really following the Eagles or Packers.

Hopefully in a few years it won't be Jalen Hyatt because we just keep churning out players like just like him to meet or exceed that special performance he had this year!

Carl Pickens, Dale Carter

Great choices, Carl Pickens saved us one season by playing offense and defense. I can't remember if it was a WR or CB shortage the team had.

Dale Carter could make an average defense look stellar.

Hard to say who was my first favorite. I did get in a fight in middle school because some kid who was an Alabama fan, said that Chuck Webb sucked.

Al Wilson, when I was a little kid I played linebacker, my dad would turn on the Tennessee games and show me Al and say "thats Al Wilson hes so mean, he'll slap your mamma"

Half of the punters we've had deserve mention as some were the best players on our team.

Remember in the 1998 Season Fiesta Bowl when our punter stopped Warrick Dunn cold in the open field as the last line of defense? Of course, you do!
