Who do you root for now ?

He did by lying to the NCAA and to our face.

Or else, we wouldn’t have needed to go through a coaching search don’t you think?

Any other AD that was halfway competent would not sabotage our basketball team day before our NCAA Tourney game with a “jury is still out” comment.

Sure he made a mistake but it was hardly anything big time like paying players or faking test scores to make someone eligible. A BBQ brought him down.

Hamilton being a moron led to Pearl’s exit here. No AD with a brain would have fired him, much less sabotage a group of players before playing in the first round.

Where’s proof that he would dump Auburn to come back to Tennessee?

Seems like pure speculation.

Also Bruce took a job in Knoxville out of basketball for 3 years and didn’t lobby schools for openings regardless of his show cause. Everyone knows the punishment and show cause was a sham while Memphis was faking scores for Derrick Rose and UNC was giving players sham classes to be academically eligible.

Pearl and his “fake” crying just then on the tv. Come on you don’t cry and then turn around to the crowd and start cheering them on if you wanted to go check on your player. Come on you are better than that.

So Bruce crying when talking about his best player going down is fake and a show?

Smh. I’m guessing you think he’s just waving his arms on the sidelines like a baffoon is a show too?

Lol. He wasn’t hireable for 3 years.

His show cause wasn’t the reason of that either. He took the break to work at Hackney and hold out for Tennessee opening up. Instead of the Donnie fiasco, we could have brought him back and united the fan base after Cuonzo went gonezo. Happy how we ended up because hiring Barnes was and is truly remarkable feat given the incompetency of our AD and administration.

Every AD in the country knew the show cause was a sham.

GTF over it. Bruce poured his heart and soul into this school and that school admin set him up and screwed him hard. Sure, Bruce pushed things a little but ****ing-a, look at the shot going on in college sports.
UTs supposed dream seaosn is overshadowed by its former coach’s cutting down the nets and beating the living **** out of UNC. they stomped a mud hole in their azz while shooting a worse free throw % than we did.

Kudos to Barnes, but friggin-a, Bruce Pearl is a great coach and yes, he’s better than Barnes. Barnes sat on his hands, and didn’t back up Lamonte. Bruce expends as much energy as his players and passionately coaches.

He took the break because he couldn’t be hired. Whatever you want to believe in fantasy land.

How do you think the Tennessee program would be now if Bruce hadn't lied to the NCAA and was still coaching Tennessee?

He also took the Auburn job before Martin left.

He took the Auburn job a week after Tennessee got one of the Last 4 spots and had to play in Dayton. At that point during SEC tourney week, there was massive speculation that UT was going to fire Cuonzo. This didn’t mean Bruce was a shoe in to come back. But once we got the Last 4 spot, it was clear Cuonzo wasn’t getting fired and Bruce wasn’t going to wait.

There’s a reason Bruce was hired and introduced on the same day as the first round of the NCAA tourney. Shame is he should have waited a few more weeks and he likely comes back, which he would have chosen over UT.

You have a short memory or must be young if you don’t remember this timeline.

My statement was absolutely correct. He took the Auburn job before UT had an opening. That is quite clear. Your response doesn’t change that...at all. I am plenty old.

Most likely on a double digit year run of NCAA Tourney appearances and a few tourney runs. The thing about Bruce and Barnes is they can coach and develop talent so I expect Barnes to have a decent run of recruiting with a few big names here and there while having consecutive years of tourney appearances. I don’t see a coaching gap in Barnes and Bruce. The only advantage Bruce has is he is younger by 5 years I think so he has more longevity.

What I do think is that Bruce would have been Tennessee’s forever coach until he decided to retire.
