White Targeting "Offensive Minded" Coach

I like Paul Chryst. He's young enough and he's a winner. He might be persuaded to come south.

It's good that they recognized that these days elite offenses Trump elite defenses.

I'd be fine with Elliot, Heupel, Lebby (Ole Miss), Napier, Chadwell, Campbell.

Don't know you...but you've got my attention. Would love to know more, and can't understand why you wouldn't share it.
Thank you. I can drop a nugget or two of information, but I can't drop anything that jumps ahead of the timeline of activities underway. I should be able to share some basic material as it trails the actual activity but beats the information to the public arena.

I'm most curious about the "minor surprise" you referenced.

According to “sources” it’s a head coach that already sitting in a head coaching job, could be a possibility
This seems accurate in the group of what most would think of as realistic candidates. It may not be true of those thought of as unrealistic candidates. The best administrators can get in the door of unrealistic candidates based solely on reputation. Just getting an audience shifts some candidates from unrealistic to slightly realistic.

Chasing what is thought as unrealistic is not out of character for an administrator that is what I would term an "alpha". The average fan might consider an outcome of attaining one of those coaches as a surprise, and I say minor because it would be a move that solidifies Dan's reputation in the minds of the fans and reduces the shock value of such a hire.

This hire is crucial, we will all agree on that. We cannot hire a project coach. We cannot hire a coordinator with no experience. We have to make a splash hire that unites and excites this fan base. No more slogans. No more cornbread. I'm on the Lane train personally but if we don't go for him, please for the sake of our fan bases mental, make a splash hire. I don't want to have to google our next coach.
I would think Lane would have to partner with the university on his buyout as a good faith gesture to remedy the way he left previously. I would not think of him as a likely candidate to take a bit of a financial bath in the first two years of a contract to rectify some personal longing to finish business at Tennessee.

I recently read (no idea where) someone making the case that Pruitt had some strengths and had coached under some really good coaches. But he had never been a part of changing the culture in a broken program. The culture at Bama, Ga, FSU was established independently of the staff when JP was there. I think there is something to that. Who has experience in rebuilding a broken program? The guy from Houston does. Kiffin does. Others of course. But that is a key qualification imo.

Stoops is wanting to coach again, the XFL screwed him, White has big 12 connections, there is a twisted weird connection between his pal Spurrier and TN, offensive minded, the kind of money floating around could entice him especially since he just got screwed out of a mil+. It's the kind of big name hire that can get TN through (whether he is successful or not).

I think the tires get kicked or have been already.

I think its Bob.

He’s not offensive minded. But he’s REALLY good at hiring people who are.

Interesting story in Sports Illustrated today on the White family. Turns out when they lived in New Orleans, they became friends of the Manning family, and Danny and his siblings often played with the Manning boys. Danny says in the article he is still in contact with the Manning boys. Could it be just wishful thinking that he gets an offensive-minded coach, turns this program around, and that young Arch Manning continues to progress over the next couple of years? Could it even be wishful thinking this relationship could have played a little into the hiring decision on White, aside from his already impressive resume? We shall see, I guess.

Danny White and the First Family of College ADs

White probably already knows whom he wants to hire as Tennessee's head coach and an offensive coach would be in line with the rest of the SEC.
