Now that most of the pieces are filled (I still think we add one more) what's the opinion on where our talent level stacks up with the rest of the SEC right now? Obviously, KY #1, FL #2, but it can get jumbled after that.

Kentucky
Florida
Georgia
Bama
MIZZ
Tennessee
South Carolina
Texas A&M
Ole Miss
Arkansas
Vandy
Auburn
LSU
Miss St.

We're obviously #1.

In all seriousness, I think once this class is filled, we'd be sitting around #11 or so.

Bama is bringing in a pretty stout class, LSU still has some solid pieces but losing Hickey and JOBlll hurts, Missouri will also have some talent.

I think just the fact of having Hubbs, Richardson and Mostella if he qualifies...puts you into the top 5 discussion.

That would drop GA out. I had a hard time putting them 3rd, but they lose nothing and played pretty good at the end of last season.

Who would you put in front of them? New coach at MIZZ, TN, Auburn, LSU lost 3 players, Ark had a ton of seniors last year, GA only loses 1 senior off the team that finished 3rd in the SEC last year.

From a purely talent level standpoint which I thought was the question no way is UGA 3, and definitely no way LSU is 13th.

And Fox did a worse job with a NBA player on his roster, so I'm not gonna automatically assume he's all of a sudden figured it out. He has a tendency to underachieve when expectations are higher for his squad.

Maybe the question should be worded differently. I'm looking at all factors and wondering where TN could end up finishing in the SEC. Factors that I can think of: Coaching changes, teams not use to facing TN style of play, talent level, locker room issues, another down SEC year, etc...

Not sure what the question is....where did recruiting stack up or what is the talent level after recruiting. In our case it will be hard to say because of grayd transfers and Juco, but we are in the upper half and definitely behind KY and Fl.

Our team isn't very talented, but neither is the rest of the SEC it's going to be a down year for everyone not named Kentucky. I say a top 4 finish is highly possible, top 5 at least.

IMO there are major locker room issue at LSU. Yeah, they have some decent talent, but I think they are in for a rough season. And with another down SEC year I think GA will again win the majority of the games against teams 4-14 even with a coach that I would rate at the bottom of the SEC.

Gotcha.

I think Tennessee should be top 5, anything less than that would be a dissapointment IMO

My two cents, and not necessarily comparing UT's roster to other rosters:

Vandy should be improved. IIRC, they'll have a few transfers activated this season after sitting out last season. And Damien Jones has the potential to be dominant.

LSU lost quite a bit, but I think Jordan Mickey is a beast and will create matchup problems for anyone he faces except for KY. And you've got to expect Jarell Martin to start to live up to that 5* ranking this season.

Arkansas has a lot of nice pieces returning.

Florida takes a step back, but will still be in the top third / quarter of the league.

I'd expect Miss St., Miss, Mizz, A&M to be more of the same.

Wildcards are Auburn, Georgia, and S. Carolina (can F. Martin coach a team up the way he's shown he can in the past? sure would love to have gotten Thornwell here). I'd put us in this category. We'll either be at or a little below .500 or will surprise some people.

We're going to steal some early wins just due to a change in scheme and overall athleticism...by the time other teams catch up...our team gels and we steal a few more...cue raccoon gif. :ninja:

This squad could possibly duplicate Bruce's first and least talented squad's feat due to opponents' unfamiliarity. :crossfingers:

So, do you see Vandy and LSU in the top half of the SEC? I hate CKS, but you know he won't stay at the bottom of the league long. Hell, I was shocked Vandy was as good as they were last year.

Top half is a good over/under for Vandy...I'd expect LSU to be in the top half. I was just pointing out those two teams as having upside. Really, they'd probably fall in the unknowns category too.

It's all probably going to play out like any other league; the teams with premier coaches will compete and everyone else will be more of the same.

It'll be really interesting to see how our style matches up against Florida's press defense.
