When Saban Retires...

When a successful coach retires or leaves.....typically the following season is still a decent winning season.

But the start of Year 2 for a new coach after a successful one is when the rubber meets the road and you begin to see where the program is headed. Urban Meyer had tremendous success at Florida. Year after he's gone, Muschamp steps in to 11-2 season with an Orange Bowl appearance.

But Year 2? Gators were 4-8....
Muschamp went 7-6 his first year at UF. He went 11-2 his second year. 4-8 the third.

Bama isn’t the typical situation though. The next coach will walk into one of college footballs best rosters and recruiting class. He will be walking into a extremely well oiled machine of relationships that span the nation of elite HS. Also, Bama will likely have its choice of coaches to choose from and won’t have to settle for a coach like Musdump like UF did.

Tennessee needs to GTFO of their own way before they worry about Alabama.

Above all things, to yourself, be true. DaddyChad's post is the ultra-truth. Never have we seen a university so dedicated to repeatedly giving itself death sentences for its football team. Maybe instead of bemoaning Alabama, the UT should imitate their attitude. The attitude of we want to win and will do what we need to or should to do so. It darn sure works for them. They don't hire JUCO level coaches or third hand position coaches as HCs. Forget Saban, hire someone who knows what they're doing. Hopefully, as it seems, Heupel is such a coach.

Yeah, but ultimately there are rival factions among boosters at Bama. Saban has kept them all in check but a new guy, after a few losses, is going to lose control and things could spiral for Bama like they have for Auburn
