What's changed just curious?

With all the analysis and grading of butch it can all be simply done by asking how close are we to Bama as a program after 5 years? Its obvious the distance has widened more than ever. Probably the biggest distance in our history. We have absolutely no chance in hell of beating them. NONE. And well be lucky to keep it within 40 points. THAT..is a huge indictment. The biggest and easiest way to gauge our progress under butch.

Agreed, the gap with Bama certainly has not closed any. Unfortunately, the way things have looked lately, we may have to include GA as that gap looks to be pretty sizable. Plus TN has to win the East before the SECCG. Not happening.

It's yr 5 and we look like a bottom dweller. I don't believe in Jones as a TN coach. Bring me a good coach

Okay I'm curious to hear VN's reason for the change from preseason expectation to now. Several threads conducted back in preseason had input on the record from 6-6 to 11-1 and the majority said 8-4 or better would be a good season because of what was lost and an unproven QB. Then we lose DKjr. 8-4 became more of the prediction.
The 4 losses that most predicted were GA, Bama, LSU and Fla. I said this was a 4 game season and depending on how we did in those 4 games would determine the record at the end of the year. My prediction was 2-2 in those 4 games. We should be 1-1 at this point and the Fla game should never have come down to the final play. The team (coaches & players) did not execute the plays, missed 3 field goals etc...
Anyway we still have a great shot at 9-3 or 8-4 which is still in line with the majority preseason thread picks.

So question is what's changed in regards to CBJ and the team? Were you lying to yourself and VN when you made your predictions? Just curious.

I'm sticking with CBJ and the team until the end of the season. I'll then make my ploy for whether he stays or should go. Not making an emotional decision because they played the worst game possible last week. Happens to everyone at some point. Win this week and we are back on track.

JMHO

Go Vols I'm behind you always and forever!

It ain't just losing; it's INEPTITUDE! Do you think this team has looked like a well coached team at ANY time in ANY game this year? (Or for the last 3-4 FTM) Good luck with 9-3; after Saturday. We are looking at 6-6. Forgetaboutit. Football 101 is a great course. I recommend it.

Did the schedule change on us after they first of the year?

Were you predicting a 1 or 2 loss season?

Or did you do like so many and fall for the negative blitz of CBJ bashing?

I've been correct about Butch since the day he was hired. He sucks. He'll be gone soon. Be glad.

There is no chance, none ... that Butch is capable of closing the gap with Alabama. Zero.

Nothing has really changed for me personally.

I thought Jones did a terrible job replacing his offensive assistants and was mishandling the QB situation.

Nothing this offense has done has dispelled those thoughts.

Didn't think the defense would be able to plug someone in to replace a talent like Barnett. And they haven't.

I expected a 7-5 maybe 8-4 season and it looks like even that may have been a stretch. Jones couldn't win the East with 6 NFL caliber players and one of the more exciting QBs to ever take snaps for UT. I didnt expect much without those players.

Not sure what the OPs point is. Because many expected Jones and his team to be noncompetitive in the SEC race again that his job should be safe?

Crap, you guys refuse to actually use your heads. You cannot look at and total numbers and base your opinions.

It's not just that you win or lose, but HOW you win or lose.

Butch has shown that he can recruit, but not coach worth a damn on Saturday. Blowing leads the way he does, calling idiotic plays from the 6 inch line. Constantly under developing talent and depth. The guy just isn't fit to lead a top notch university.

Get off the "Butch is the coach and therefore always infallible" crack that you're on.

They cant.

UGA proves what a REAL COACH can do. That is all the Indictment we need on Butch.

99% of the posters on this board said UGA had hired their "Dooley" just last year after Smart's 8-5 campaign which included losses to Vandy and Ga Tech and squeaked by Nicholls State. Now the sucker is the second coming of Vince Lombardi. 😂

Hey now, we are only 49 points away from being undefeated right now.

May as well start bringing that up.

Jones is already trotting out the youth excuse from his greatest hits.

If this team is inexperienced, it falls back on him and his staffs inability to recruit and develop talent.

He has a team with exactly one freshman getting regular starts. It's pitiful he felt the need to throw that into his press conference the other day.

Don't think anyone predicted that Florida would have 9 players suspended, a hurricane, a missed cupcake game, and a lost week of practice prior to us going to the swamp. Don't think anyone predicted that we'd struggle to compete with a winless UMass team until their QB got hurt. Don't think anyone predicted a shutout to Georgia. Don't think anyone predicted that LSU would be in bad enough shape to be beaten by Troy.

The preseason predictions were made before the football landscape changed.

OP your correct, nothing really changed. We have looked bad in our losses but that is how inexperience looks. Umass was the kicker.

Sure FL was missing players but we were too. We could argue all day about the value of those players. The GA blowout was just more of the same. Fans are underestimating how good GA is. Look at their ranking. In a rebuilding year few teams will get lucky and beat a team like GA.

Jones staff's have been underwhelming at developing players and he has rarely surprised us with a win over a superior opponent. That can change with staff more changes but Butch is out of time as fans are turning on him. In fact his timing has been really bad. With better luck/timing we would have two east champions.

Next years team will be loaded with talent and experience but the schedule is really tough. I don't see any championships coming next year.

It may be best for Butch if he were fired this year. He could walk with a payout and go looking for a job. He could make a reasonable argument TN fired a coach that did a great rebuilding job. He could talk about lack of administrative support etc., that should get him a decent job. If he has a loosing season next year, he would have two regression years on two 9-4 years.

So if we play lights out the rest of the season your still on board with current staff?

:)

Tennesseeduke

If he wins 9 regular season games... I'll have enough morbid curiosity to see what happens next year... even though I'll still doubt his ability to win anything that matters at UT.

How likely do you think it is that he can win 6 of the next 7 games?

Just curious OP, have you watched any games this season?

Without question this is the ugliest Tennessee football has looked since 2012.

In year 5 why does the product on the field look as bad or worse than year 1?

2012 team would slaughter this team.i dont know if this team could score on 2012 defense. The offense is that bad

FUUUNNEEE :lolabove::lolabove::lolabove:
That's similar to looking at the body of the guy that just lost the gun fight in the old west, and saying, "He was only a 1/2 second from being the fast gun in the west!!!:hi:
