What was learned yesterday?

I learned that old (bad) habits die hard. (i.e. DBs not looking back for the ball, bad angles, not getting off blocks, etc.)

What did you learn?
I learned that we haven't improved at all from the garbage that we witnessed last year. We are still a stinking pile of crap, and will like remain a stinking pile of crap for the foreseeable future. It is quite likely that our program will never be a championship contender again.

I learned that our secondary is the weak link, and 3 freshman playing back there will be rough for a while. The only bright side of that is they will make huge improvements by November, when we will likely need to win all 4 or at least 3 out of 4 to get in a bowl.

Also learned that Pruitt has big brass balls, and plays to win. He went for a 4th very early in the game, which deserves praise EVEN IF we failed to score...and he blitzed the whole game trying to knock Grier out of rhythm even though it meant Flowers and the other freshmen were 1 on 1 in man coverage...and flowers got toasted regularly...he could have sat back in dime coverage all game, and doubled Sills in a zone...but he knew that we had no chance to win that way. None. He kept blitzing, even a corner blitz on the 45yd TD over flowers, rolling the dice in hopes of making a big play and swinging the game.

We have serious depth and some talent issues, secondary and Dline as well as we need 1 offensive guard to step up and be the man, or 2...we have 2 good tackles, and the center Kennedy played well once he settled in...we need guards to step up..soon.

The team looked very well coached, only had 2 or 3 penalties all game, played disciplined football other than the DBs...they blew assignments and tackles...but i am sire sure that Pruitt will get them in shape, thats his old position coach specialty. The jury is out on whether Fair is a good coach, if he isnt then i am sure he will be replaced.

God bless and Go Vols

Trolling is an attempt to create an emotional response for others. My pick was solely intended for my own satisfaction should a monumental upset occur. Those do happen at times during inaugural seasons for coaches in difficult rebuilding situations.
Aight!

I learned:
*Jeremy Pruitt has the guts/ballz/craziness (whatever you want to call it) to GO FOR IT! on 4th and Goal EARLY in a Game...THIS is a PLUS!
*Tennessee STILL ran a play with only 10 players on defense, at least once (I think I saw it twice)...THIS is on the Coaching Staff/Support
*Pruitt is gonna ride the JG horse...and it is a TOUGH horse, that just needs some more confidence...but can make some good throws
*EVERYTIME I disagree with you "Homers" expecting "10-2. 8-4, 7-5" or ANYTHING beside my expected 5-7 or MAYBE (if we steal one from someone...which is still possible) 6-6 for a Bowl...I'm MORE RIGHT than the Homers
*Tim Jordan is a BEAST and will complement Chandler (once his ear stop ringing...)
*Defensive line is a WEAK point, despite seeing Paul Bain (all jokes aside...he played well, but if Pruitt has to cycle a walk-on DL throughout a game...Tennessee has DL DEFICIENCIES!
*WR Corps are average to good...just need more time to throw/run routes
*The punter Doyle did a GOOD job under some 1st game stressful situations...has a good leg
*DBs got smoked yesterday on a few occasions...but that Flowers kid is gonna play a LOT and will get MUCH better
*Grier was even better than advertised...and I thought there was TOO MUCH hype about him before the game...but he can place a ball...AND read defenses
*Tennessee has a LONG WAY to go to get back to 8 or 9 wins...and even MORE to EVER get to 10+...but I feel MUCH better about it...than I EVER did with Dooley or Lyle

What did you learn?

Funny, I think Grier is worse than his billing. Most of his completions were slants, ins, and drags, throws most HS kids can make with efficiency. He made the throws, easy as they may have been, but our defensive backfield was a sieve.

We rarely tried to break their timing with press coverage. Hell, our corners were lined up 10-12 yards off the ball and were even backpedaling at or before the snap at times. Pruitt sat on his heels the whole game, believing his game plan would magically come together and stop WVU with a semblance of consistency. He never once made Grier frantic with persistent pressure. Most “air raid” offenses are predicated off timing and space, we gave them both. No need in overthinking this, we just didn’t show up. Blame can be slung from there, starting with it being directed at the top.

25/34 for 429 yards passing and five touchdowns – the most ever allowed by a Tennessee football team.

But i'm sure you are right...

The operative words were -I think-, so if you don’t agree, cool. IDGAS. Even funnier, you didn’t address anything else in my post.....

If you think slants and shallow routes across the middle define a great QB, while blindly neglecting our defensive woes, your football acumen is deficient.

But carry on. It’s your thread, the rest of us are just complete DAs.

I've learned that a portion of our fan base is still unrealistic and uneducated. Sadly I've come to expect some of our fans to be so ignorant as to already think Pruitt isn't our guy. I wish that portion would find something else to do on Saturday's.
Most on here dont realize because of Butchs inability to run a great off season sc program the last 3 or 4 years we are woefully behind most P5 programs. Its gonna take a little while to catch up.

I learned that I've grown apathetic.... I learned the rivals rating system is suspect.... I learned that I'm not driving to Knoxville for a game this year..... I learned Pruitt has his work cut out for him..... I learned that I need to have more than six beers in the fridge if I'm going to watch more than the first half.....

I switched to whisky last year. Beer wasn’t enough....

Yesterday didn’t give me any reason to switch back.

I watched the same game as you!!

Offensively, I learned the horizontal passing game is alive and well post Butch.
Also learned the front 7 doesn't really have any playmakers. Yet WVU can find a nose tackle reject from USC and make him look like an NFL caliber player.

He's not a reject. He had two years of injuries and he's a graduate transfer.

We learned that Pruitt saw a easy pay increase and fantastic buyout opportunity if he could make fulmer believe in his coaching.

That hot chicken and Miller Lite is not the correct juju for UT football. Moving on to oxtails and Red Stripe for Florida.
