What was learned yesterday?

The one thing we are lacking on both sides of the ball is "Burst of Speed". Our WRs make a great catch and are caught soon after. We don't burst into the backfield on defense either, we are way too slow to react.

I'll pen part of that on still learning the system. WV had bodies flying around and they obviously knew where they were going because there weren't a lot of blown plays.

Once we get to that point on defense, things will be a lot different. We have a long way to go before we get to that point.

There were also some bad tackles. I think a big part of that was trying to strip the ball for a turnover, which resulted in extra 10-15 yards.

Need to learn FUF. I use this with my players. F up Fast. You will learn in the process, but at least play fast!

Fuller did not have a "signing class" that year. Commitments mean nothing, as you know by now watching our recent coaches make them disappear before signing day.
Seriously? That is a hollow argument. Several of those same commits were told to look elsewhere prior to signing day because they didn't fit the "saviors" system. They went on to be stars elsewhere BTW. Keep telling yourself that Fulmer created this mess when he is actually the only modern day coach with real success at UT.

Fulmer's career was two distinct halves. The first half excelling and becoming a respected coach, and the second half becoming lazy and appearing to be more interested in politics than performing his job. That class had signs of disintegrating based on the on-field product they were seeing. They were primarily commitments in name only, as many seemed to be holding their UT offer while looking around. The Clemson QB was the lone, glaring exception.

There are too many opinions in your assertion to be taken seriously. The belief that Fulmer caused the current state of the program is tired and baseless. A lot of folks believe it, and that's fine. I can agree that we had a few off years toward the end of his tenure, but firing him without a solid plan in place was where the failure began. With the exception of very few coaches, they all go through some down times before bouncing back.

Cutcliffe was the coach! Just go back and take a look for yourself. He was gone again, for good. It was never Phil. He just played the part really well, until he thought he was actually the one doing it.

What was learned yesterday?

Vol fans can't wait for ETSU?
Possibly?

The team needs someone to play that are less talented than themselves, just to prove that there is a team that they can actually beat.

Redemption please

The biggest thing I learned is that we are further behind than I thought. I thought we had some talent on this team that was just being misused by the former staff. While I still think that was true I am more convinced them ever that we have some mediocre players that were overhyped by the experts.

Just gauging some of Pruitt's comments thus far I also believe he thought this team was further ahead than they are, though I don't think he would say as much. I haven't seen his post game or the show today.

This team doesn't have the foundation needed to be a good team. We need a few classes and a couple of years of development. We all knew it was pretty bad, but this team just doesn't have the talent needed to compete, especially on defense.

I learned everyone was right last year. Missing the extra bowl practices will have a detrimental effect on this team. We missed out on a bowl game and the extra practices and we are now 10-12 practices behind teams that played in bowls last year. You guys were right.

What are you thoughts on Bigfoot? Do you expect ETSU to keep it close next week since we are so bad? I've got to hand it to you, at least you stick to your beliefs as unbelievable as they may be to some of us.

We learned that we aren’t very good. To have a chance against SEC competition, we need to limit the number of possessions the other team has the ball. Sad, but 5 wins is a realistic goal.

Everyone loves their mother, so I don't think it's appropriate to comment. I do not expect ETSU to be competitive, but nothing would surprise me.

The game yesterday reaffirmed what we thought our weaknesses were going to be this year. I learned that 5 wins this year would be a good season. Lack of talent, lack of depth, new scheme on both sides of the ball, new coaches.......CJP will need time; get his guys in with a couple of years in his system, things will be different. We will have to take our lumps this year.

That's odd! You must have been trolling when you picked ETSU to win in the "Pick the Score" thread!

I learned that Jordon can play. I learned that Robert Gillespie has a good eye for talent. I learned that Woody-Anderson is really good. I learned that middle linebacker has fully recovered from knee injury. I learned that special teams is a strength
I learned that it is UNLIKELY that anyone gets drafted to NFL this season

Contrarian pick. In a pick the score contest, what is more satisfying; picking an easy winner with everyone else or being one of few to call an upset?

Contrarian = trolling.
Trolling is an attempt to create an emotional response for others. My pick was solely intended for my own satisfaction should a monumental upset occur. Those do happen at times during inaugural seasons for coaches in difficult rebuilding situations.
