I learned:
*Jeremy Pruitt has the guts/ballz/craziness (whatever you want to call it) to GO FOR IT! on 4th and Goal EARLY in a Game...THIS is a PLUS!
*Tennessee STILL ran a play with only 10 players on defense, at least once (I think I saw it twice)...THIS is on the Coaching Staff/Support
*Pruitt is gonna ride the JG horse...and it is a TOUGH horse, that just needs some more confidence...but can make some good throws
*EVERYTIME I disagree with you "Homers" expecting "10-2. 8-4, 7-5" or ANYTHING beside my expected 5-7 or MAYBE (if we steal one from someone...which is still possible) 6-6 for a Bowl...I'm MORE RIGHT than the Homers
*Tim Jordan is a BEAST and will complement Chandler (once his ear stop ringing...)
*Defensive line is a WEAK point, despite seeing Paul Bain (all jokes aside...he played well, but if Pruitt has to cycle a walk-on DL throughout a game...Tennessee has DL DEFICIENCIES!
*WR Corps are average to good...just need more time to throw/run routes
*The punter Doyle did a GOOD job under some 1st game stressful situations...has a good leg
*DBs got smoked yesterday on a few occasions...but that Flowers kid is gonna play a LOT and will get MUCH better
*Grier was even better than advertised...and I thought there was TOO MUCH hype about him before the game...but he can place a ball...AND read defenses
*Tennessee has a LONG WAY to go to get back to 8 or 9 wins...and even MORE to EVER get to 10+...but I feel MUCH better about it...than I EVER did with Dooley or Lyle

I learned that I’ll very likely never see Tennessee football be near a championship level program again in my lifetime.

I wouldn't say that. The fact that West Virginia just dealt us a blow like that is proof that the landscape in college football can change pretty drastically. I remember my days as a UT student (00-05) and we were riding the coat tails of past success. Even still, I remember a friend had a wv sticker from a parent or something, and I didn't even know what that logo was. Things change when you have the right coach paired with recruiting success. WV has that right now. And this isn't Holg's first walk in the park - he has been their coach for 9 years! Cut Pruitt some slack, he could be the right coach, and I believe he will have recruiting success. We need a win to build on, someone we play disciplined out of our heads football and beat someone we shouldn't. I am still hopeful Pruitt will deliver that for us this year.

I learned to stop drinking the Orange Kool Aide and replace it with 🥃. Enjoy the cupcakes ( I hope ) and see if this team can compete with Florida. Offense and Defense fronts need to play much better to weather the SEC storm approaching.

I've learned that a portion of our fan base is still unrealistic and uneducated. Sadly I've come to expect some of our fans to be so ignorant as to already think Pruitt isn't our guy. I wish that portion would find something else to do on Saturday's.

Sorry, but it is equally ignorant to already think Pruitt IS our guy. We probably won't know one way or the other until sometime in Year 2.

I'm starting to believe this. I remember when we got upset with losing to someone in OT or by 3 pts. WVU blew us out and it's like, "Take a deep breath".???

I don't even want a championship. Just give me an SEC-level DL and SEC CBs.

What did you learn?
I learned that the 3-4 is still a difficult defense to grasp
I learned the freshman that started in the back field need more time to develop
I learned the OL did a better job after the first three drives
I learned that JG is one tough dude
I learned that CJP, just went to school........with a team that was poorly developed by the last staff
I learned the JG can make the throws when given the time
I learned Jordan is a mean running back........I liked watching him

Questions: Why didn't JJ play more downs?

Volnation had a wake up call, all us had plenty of optimism going into the game, and learned fairly quickly that despite having a great coaching staff, it is still what kind of players a team has, and switching offense and defensive schemes takes more than 9 months.

The Vols are my team, yes I was hoping for a better game and more points, but I did see the offense get better and the defense...........well..........not, but I believe it is harder to learn a new defense than offense........and that was obvious.

I hope the next two games is enough to tweak and improve the defense before Florida. I am still not giving up on 7+ wins regardless of what anyone says here or the media............This is my team..........period.

Wow! you two need to get a room, because that is not realistic in any one's world.

He's our coach. Right? Did I miss something? You guys farh him already?

Then he's OUR guy.... You're assuming that I'm meaning our guy= national championship coach. Please bold the portion of my statement where I said that. I'll hang up and listen.....

Are you still drunk? You need to get a room when you're flirting with a girl in public.

I'll agree with you though that the Vols getting a SEC-level DL or CBs "is not realistic in any one's world."

I don't even think it has much to do with Pruitt. I think it is a realization that the Tennesee athletic department and football program are nearly unfixable at this point. They are years and years from creating a culture that can support winning.

The one thing we are lacking on both sides of the ball is "Burst of Speed". Our WRs make a great catch and are caught soon after. We don't burst into the backfield on defense either, we are way too slow to react.

I'll pen part of that on still learning the system. WV had bodies flying around and they obviously knew where they were going because there weren't a lot of blown plays.

Once we get to that point on defense, things will be a lot different. We have a long way to go before we get to that point.

There were also some bad tackles. I think a big part of that was trying to strip the ball for a turnover, which resulted in extra 10-15 yards.

CJP said speed is over rated.

I agree that what we have now is the result of abysmal mismanagement at an administrative level over at least the past decade.

Number 1, UT cannot even hire a competent president.

Number 2, from Hamilton to Hart to whoever that last guy was who stopped by for a cup of coffee, UT has not hired a competent AD until maybe now. I like Fulmer and hope/believe he can finally right the ship, but the jury is still out on that and, at a minimum, it will take time.

Number 3, from Dooley to Jones UT has not hired a competent HFC. As for Pruitt, see Fulmer above.

Fulmer started this mess and has no real AD qualifications other than being available when no one credible would take the job. Why would that solve the problem?
