I believe 8-4 tells us where we are headed. Reality is a coaching change within a couple years.

I think we win the East this year and Butch is on solid ground. At least job security at UT wise.

9-3 this year is still progress even if it's baby steps. It doesn't matter what the fans want Hart won't fire him as long as he's winning.

Not really. Cause some of us would have picked multiple options but had to stick to one.

I chose the option that he must win the east. But I wouldn't be happy with 9-3. That would mean we went 1-3 in the games that mattered and backdoored our way to Atlanta.

With the level of talent we have, anything less than 10-2 is unacceptable.

I think most picked what meant the most to him/her...so I'd still say that small sample size reflects roughly what it would be in reality under that scenario.

It doesn't really matter to me who is happy or mad, lol....if we get a couple wins better I'll be great...

No its not, its still losing to our two biggest rivals and that is not progress. If we go 10-2 next year and lose to Florida and Bama
again will you say we've finally turned the corner?

I think putting Butch on the hotseat every season he doesn't attain an SEC championship is so stupid. And that moron that says it's unacceptable for Butch to "back his way in" to an SECCG must be high. He should beat Florida and win 9 easy, which is doable with a healthy team. I don't want excuses from Coach, but I don't think we should fire him if he isn't a national championship winning coach every year. Would you fire a scientist who didn't win the Nobel prize every year, if every year he made a better discovery. Would you fire a police chief if crime isn't eradicated after a few years if crime dropped every year he was police chief? I know some of you would and I expect to be 11-1 going to ATL. But I'm not gonna hang CBJ if we're not. I wish I could get through to you silly people thinking we should fire every coach every year were not perfect. CPF only won one NC and I believe most would agree he was a darn good coach.

Threads like this amaze me to be honest. We hired a coach to come in and take over our program at its historic low. He came in and completely changed attitudes and the atmosphere of the program. Players are making better grades and our talent upgrade has been phenomenal and our wins have increased each year.
So why some feel the need to start these types of threads is baffling.

I still don't understand why anyone would even ask the question.
A guy comes in and does a great job of rebuilding our program from the worst shape it's ever been in and has shown very good progress each year in every category and in 3 years we've gone from worst shape in school history to pre-season top 10 and in the national championship conversation. How that gets fans of his team to even ask such a question is baffling.

At 9-3 what are you selling to recruits? 8-4 last year plus a huge bowl game blowout win has recruiting treading water and it's barely keeping its head dry. 14Th ranked class last year. Another class or 2 like that and imo UT has to make a move. Most seem sure Butch needs a very strong year to get recruits to continue buying in. IMO 9-3 just doesn't do it.

Actually, that doesn't sound very logical. Based on your sentence structure, you're suggesting a reasoned response can't be asked by me. I really don't get the question, but maybe that's because I do things like create idiotic posts. It's the elephant in the room. We have all seen what he has done, the good, the bad, the concern is what will he do next.

CBJ brought this team together and this team is stacked. From what I heard from Hoover, the team is focused on working to improve individually and as a team. They have looked back at their own mistakes, and have addressed them. Take it one game at a time and give their all every day.

I'm glad to be a fan of the Vols. I get to sit back and relax while snacking on Doritos and wonder......

Using your "logic" perhaps we should start a thread and a poll asking "What MUST Josh Dobbs to not get kicked out of school". He has shown no history of doing anything worthy of such a thread (like Jones) and has only gotten better each year (like Jones). But hey, this is a forum so maybe you should start that thread.

Recruits don't just look at records. They look at which teams are putting players in the league and we potentially have 11 players this year that will go to the NFL.

There are some who are frustrated with him now and have been since the day he took the helm. To some it's more important to say "see I told ya he wasn't a good coach".

This is absolutely true; I only created the poll to determine what VN thinks the team must accomplish this season to temper the fan's expectations. As you can see, it's all over the board!

I, personally, am a huge Butch fan. Just like you've stated, he came into a dumpster fire and after three years has us in the national championship discussion. He has done a tremendous job, and although he has a few coaching flaws (questionable game-time decisions, namely), if he fixes these, then we are in for a great season. Accomplish that, and the recruiting dominos and 'locking down the state' will follow.

Barring catastrophic failure, in which VN implodes, Butch isn't going anywhere. For a while.

Regardless of what you may think, the fact is that UT has NOT won 9 regular season games since 2007. If UT goes 9-3 this season that's progress.

It may not be enough for some delusional UT fans, but the only opinion that really matters is what Dave Hart thinks, and he's on record stating that UT football is healthy under Butch.

So unless Butch has a couple of disastrous seasons he ain't going nowhere as long as he's winning.

That's just a fact that many will have to accept as long as Hart is the AD.

That would be a great season, but some would still complain and want a change in coaching.
