What is your degree in and why?

BS in History; after Vietnam I felt I needed to understand history better. Learned a lot, certainly not always what I wanted to learn, but I learned a bit about how to view history and understand the various interpretations of historical events. Given the recent political events in this country, the degree has been helpful in sorting out what's real and what's fake.

Also, have an MBA with a focus on finance, this has been a great help in creating a comfortable life for my wife and me.

Thank you GI bill and thank you USAF for the skills I acquired, they helped put me through university.
You served in "Nam"?

That war ended 47 years ago!

Holy moly!

USAF suggest you enlisted. Better than getting drafted.
58,000
Viet Nam is a horrible memory for many of us who were draft age during that time. Much more so for those 58,000 and their families.

Yep, I enlisted to avoid going to Vietnam. I had a friend who had been an electronics instructor in the USAF, over one weekend he taught me how to pass the electronics exam and get into an electronics career field. I aced the exam and all I really knew how to do at the time was turn on a lamp. At tech school they told us we would have choice of over seas assignments based on where we finished in our class. I was number 1 in my class and they offered 14 overseas assignments for me to rank my preferences. I started geographically as far away from Vietnam as possible and listed all choices except Vietnam. Got sent to Germany, spent some time in Spain and a few months in Libya.

I was certainly willing to serve my country, but I was also motivated to keep myself as safe as possible. That's just how it was in those days.

Made SSgt in 3 1/2 years.

Bachelors of Science in Computer Info Systems

Because I had a top secret SCI clearance in the Navy and had designs to pair my clearance with an IT career and make a lot of money.

Never worked in IT as the more I learned about computers the less interested in them I became. But the degree has helped me get interviews/careers.

What did you do in the Navy?

Bet they were all in Thailand.

I was east coast. Scotland, England, Italy, Spain, Bahrain, Crete, Gibraltar, Norway to name a few.

I’ve heard good things about the places west coast navy visits. No better than Australia from what I’ve heard.

BA in Marketing. Because it was easy, but I wasn't creative at all.
MBA in Bus Admin. because it was easier than finding a job with a Marketing Degree.

Sounds more like a great vacation than military duty.
Australia was somewhat of a disappointment for us. Too much like the US.

I’ve been on great vacations. My military service was not one of them. Did a lot of things. Saw a lot of places. Glad I served. Glad it’s over.

I have an Associate of Science degree in Medical Records, I was a medical records specialist,
making sure that every T was crossed and every i was dotted, but I hated it so I went into
Real Estate and Retail. In college your focus was the legal aspects of the record, anatomy
and physiology, disease and hospital stats.

Me too! Killer program, at least when I was there. I griped about the endless internships, but I learned a ton.
Yes you sure do....I liked the curriculum, just did not like the job in real life, in a room full of records having to flag Dr.'s and nurses notes, it was just
relentless.

BS in Kinesiology with a concentration in exercise science. I wanted to go into sports medicine, but I was so done with school I just stopped. Plus I didn't feel like piling on the debt of more school.

Have you used it? My baby girl wants to get into that, forensics, and the FBI. She's only 14, but been talking about that kind of stuff for at least two years. It may change, but right now she wants to do something of that nature that'll get her into the FBI.

Experience will matter more than the degree she gets, but she will need a degree. If that’s what she wants to do, some military time or interning with an alphabet soup agency will do more for her than getting a Criminal Justice degree.
