What is wrong with Estrella?

Lack of effort and focus gets you benched from day 1 in hoops as far as I’m concerned if a coach is worth much. Many games come down to a couple late possessions. Have to be able to count on effort, awareness and focus. If you can’t, sit down.
He does get pissed and pull guys for bad turnovers at bad times as well but most of the time they are back in quickly. A lazy pass up top or jumping in the air for a cross court pass for a turnover is a quick hook, so don’t do it.
Exactly. It's a false narrative that guys are afraid to shoot because they might be pulled. Barnes rarely if ever has pulled a guy for taking an open shot. IN FACT, he's on the record multiple times saying he wants guys to shoot when they have a good open shot. That being said, both Gillespie and Boswell pass up far too many wide open 10 footers in the lane by trying to make some cute pass

He's a decent player, but he’s not the player he was hyped up to be by many on VN. He never was.
“He never was”. Don’t be such a sad sack throw in the towel whiner. If you watched him earlier this year, in his Freshman year, against Purdue, and his effort against Edey; you can’t get to that conclusion. He’s missed some practice the last two weeks, he’s definitely struggling to find his way post injury, but cmon, Schleprock. Give it a minute.

Then rest him. Two things are obvious. He didn’t hit the conditioning program like he should have. I expected to see a much more developed upper body/ Last I checked, they have a weight at Pratt. Two, he’s discombobulated. He doesn’t look “right.” They let the Cade shoulder thing linger on over the course of two seasons only to finally have to go to the knife. I have a feeling something is up with Estrella that isn’t going to just fix itself.

This post is all over the map. You want him to have surgery? Play less? Workout more? Get a psychological workup? GPS? He’s had two bad games after sitting out from either illness or his foot. Let’s see if he bounces back before we give him a boob job or time in prison.

Yeah. Im a very Pro-CRB guy, but idk how this isn’t creating a chemistry problem.
Agreed and I love CRB and what he has accomplished here...it's just weird how we are trying to take our best rebounding post who is also our best scorer per 100 possessions but we only play him 9 min today (and 13.5 for the season) apparently because he's not an enforcer like Uros and drawing a flagrant foul every other game.

Why choose? He can get the boob job while serving time in prison. That's what I did. What?

Was hoping Brown would have developed into a bigger role.
He isn't there yet. Need JP to shine in closing minutes of the games
especially with Carey slowed and Brown a non-factor.

Good news is Brown can continue to grow and get less tentative, and Estrella can become more aggressive and put his injuries behind him.

Both need to more aggressively attack the rim and not go the finesse route that looked good in HS. If they try to block your shot break their wrists on the rim.

He has shown he can knock down the 3 quite comfortably from the top of key. He shoots it as well as Chism did, just not nearly as often
This is the key if we're tied to two bigs this year. Give Felix, Carey, and Brown some room to breathe down there if JP can knock it down at the top of the key. Plenty of Barnes sets have the big landing there. Let's see what happens.

I’ve been big on prognosticating Estrella exceeding expectations, last year and this year. I’ve been wrong, but I think it’s a matter of “when” not if he’ll fulfill his promise. Injuries can obviously wreck that, but we’ll see. Each Summer is been the most talked about player. This year, they were cautious easing him out of the foot surgery. He did well early, given the light practice and contact. Almost immediately he had the knee injury and flu back to back and missed ten plus practices over a month. He has the full package to open up our offensive options: He can rebound and defend, has some good offensive footwork and a hook and turnaround. He passes well inside out, and inside. He can shoot the three, and play the pass by high post in the Fulkerson role. I think this team can overcome its guard inadequacies if we can open up more space for the bigs and Ament. The big lineup we played against Bama was unstoppable when they had to guard Ament beyond ten feet out. More flow will come if JP can pass from the high post, and score and pass low. I think there are some bad matchups for us (Florida) but many other good ones if we exploit other teams size. Estrella can be a great contributor. He just needs floor time.

He needs to mentally go after every rebound like it’s the last one he will get and get 2 hands on it more often. He reaches up with one hand too often for my taste, and seems to be thinking he can just grab it as he’s still not used to the athletes at this level. They will get to a ball before you if you aren’t going to get it.
