What is the Pitt game telling us...

Yup some people enjoy being miserable. In what world is 59-10 not a confidence booster? Heup could cure cancer and they'd bitch about Oncologists being unemployed.
Guess you didn’t catch his halftime and after game comments. He pretty much pointed out the same concerns you’re reading here. I haven’t seen anyone saying the team sucks, pretty much folks just pointing out stuff that needs to be cleaned up. Some people just can’t take an opposing point of view I guess. It’s good to finally handle a cupcake but they got icing all over their face and crumbs down their shirt. That’s why you schedule warm up games.

Ah, I guess I was more attuned to Haddens good play and Burrell’s less than stellar lol.
Hadden was a hawk. He got that Oooh Weee speed
They will also stay ranked which will make the win look a little better for the AP.
Hopefully we can get into the Top 25 by the end of the weekend.

I think one of the things going for us against Pitt is Pitt's offensive line is just not very good. 2.0 yards a carry and gave up like 5 or 6 sacks. Slovis isn't particularly athletic, and they seem to like those more long developing plays as well. I'll almost guarantee we're going to bring a little more pressure against them as well.

And their new offensive philosophy is to run the ball and play ball control. See last years KY vs TN game as evidence as to how that works out.

The reason I'm not worried is because our D didn't have to go balls to the wall aggressive. They tackled well and they caused turnovers. We were never blown off the ball. The game was never in question. Hell the game was over at the start of the second quarter. Why would they turn it up to 11. Mark my words. You will see a better pass rush next Sat

Who is worried about anything? It’s just a discussion about the game and some folks can’t seem to accept anything short of congratulations on perfection.

We were the far better team last year. It was simply a matter of us having Joe Milton start the game and then having the top drafted QB, Kenny Pickett. Don't seee any way they keep up this time round.

Sure we will give up a but if points, but this is gonna be a track meet that we win decisively. 44 - 31 type win.

It's telling us that Pitt is still finding ways to win in crucial moments. Something we didn't last year.

We're a more talented team, but we still have to go earn it from them!
Should be a battle next week

They should win the MAC.

High scoring slugfest next week with in-house refs. I’m nervously optimistic… it’s hard to judge our OL, and our defense still looks like it needs work, especially in the back end. Pitt will score, but can we score more? I think so.
It will be SEC officials. ACC officials did the game last year.

Anyone that thinks the game will be easy or tough based off these performances, both sides are just guessing. No one knows. How good is WVU? Vols rolled in a very vanilla ply calling game. It’s basically week one next week guys. We will find out a lot.

That's the thing. You can believe we'll show up next week with more intensity than today. Nothing that happened today will matter next week.

Um we handled all the cupcakes last year. And honest question, what more should the team have done? Held them to under 100 total yards? Kept them scoreless? It wasn’t a perfect game but you honestly couldn’t have asked for a better result. Ok more sacks I give you that. Other than that, I can’t see anything else that was worth worrying about.

Don’t see how we were the far better team. We had more injuries at key positions, a much thinner roster, brand new coaching staff, new QB, new offensive and defensive scheme. Meanwhile Pitt had one of the best QBs in the nation and the best WR, a seasoned coaching staff and all the momentum. And we still barely lost.

Pitt's uniforms look awful. When did their colors change? They look like a D2/high school level
team with these unis.

Well..., it's what's inside those uniform that should be of a greater concern.
Pittsburgh is going to be a rough game experience for the Vols. I want to think with BS, we just wanted to give players reps, further evaluation players, especially the newer ones, and look at defense schemes. I saw enough to know if we don't either put the Pitt. QB on the ground or seriously hassle him, we will get our arse kicked. With BS, the Captain often had a year, a day, and two hours to throw. He won't get that luxury with Pitt. But if he does, some of those new wrinkles Heupel spoke about will be revealed, and both the WRs and TEs will be major factors. We won't get much of a rushing attack with Pitt. Wish we had a Carson Steele on our team, I liked his hard charging style. Our backs do have enthusiasm, and I think if they break into the secondary, they will be dangerous yard eaters. May the hound tree the cat.

I’ll be able to provide a better post tomorrow after watching the replay of the Pitt game but from what I seen (from highlights and flipping back and forth during UT game), WVU was able to run it pretty good on them. On the other hand, Pitt’s run game was almost nonexistent. Slovis isn’t extremely mobile and can have the tendency to squeeze the ball a little too long when he should get rid of it. BUT, when he has the time to throw he can sling it around pretty good. With all that said, it comes right back around to our pass rush and secondary. I believe that will be a key point this week obviously but if we show up in those positions I think we’ll win. THE BIGGEST KEY TO ME THO (from the little bit I watched).... if we can establish a ground game, I think Hooker can light em up especially with our bigger receivers. WVU’s #0 is a bigger framed guy and he had his way with them with almost 100 rec yds and 2 TD’s. Our WR corps is better than WVU’s and I think Big Ced and Co could have themselves a day. Huge game for the momentum of this season but we’ll have to go earn it and take it from them.

Something else of importance. Pitt’s starting DE Deslin Alexandre suffered what is said to be a “pretty serious injury”. Also, their RB Hammond injured his ankle and was in a boot. They said he should be available next week but that might hinder him a bit. He was the biggest part of their ground game tonight even though it wasn’t very much.

They get pressure on the QB
It looked like Pitt's QB was the one under most of the pressure. Ball State's plan was to get the ball out of the QB's hands quickly so BY et al. never could get to him in time, but that won't be the case with Pitt. I predict a lot of pressures and sacks for the good guys.

I can see why most of college football hates our fan base, and it's honestly why I hardly ever use this site. I spoke my honest concerns about the Pitt game and most people didn't hesitate to be a smartass😂 God forbid someone have an opinion
