What In The Hell Happened

Have we descended permanently into the obscurity of the SEC mid-pack to cellar? I'm glad that this team finally got put out of it's misery.

It's always darkest right before it goes pitch black.

I hate to be one of those guys, but I gotta say I'm a little concerned about this coaching staff. I just think they should have gotten a bit more out of this team. The only thing pulling me from the edge is past results of the defensive staff prior to coming to UT.

Because the game was suddenly in our qb's hands and he IS a nonfactor. Shurmer is so much better. Our guy cannot make things happen. You never want the game in his hands. Never, he is not that kind of guy.
True. Our D was burned more by our offense all year than the other teams. 3 and out over and over

To this teams fight after Ky? It's one thing to get beat by a better team. It's something else to lay down and play dead.

Looked like they started giving up in middle of 2nd quarter. Never were the same after that. Not much or nonexistent effort even at start of the game. WTH. Blame falls on every aspect of the team. Does that mean I give up being a VOL fan? Not at all. I’ll be here next season, hoping and believing in them once again.

Ya know he could’ve said the people supporting the team standing here on the vol walk is for us but he didn’t...

Several years ago, Pat Summit kicked the Lady Vols out of their locker room for poor effort and made them earn their way back in. Wouldn't mind seeing if that works in football. Or put them in black jerseys and tell them they can wear orange again when they've proven they deserve it.

This staff has been in place since last January and:
--Offensive line is just as bad as they were this time last year. Missed assignments, missed blocks, no effort
--Linebackers are just as bad as they were this time last year. Missed assignments, bad angles, poor tackling, lost in pass coverage.
--Safeties are still lost and non existent with the exception of a few targeting penalties
--Corners are all freshmen and are a little better than last year's group
--WRs still can't get off the line, can't get any separation, and still drop too many passes (#84; why does he get to play)
--There is still no pass rusher on the team
--QB play is just as erratic and inconsistent as it was last year.
--Team still gives very little effort and don't appear to be any stronger than they were last year.

Nice summary. Pruitt can talk all day long about how he needs kids who wanna play and fight...and I don’t doubt him there, this team was soft and lacking in competitive spirit. But it was his job to develop and elevate a squad who flashed at times, showing they could compete. Yet, time and time again they played uninspired, undisciplined and just generally poorly. He simply did a **** job this year with this team. Period.

You realize they are learning new schemes and it's a younger o line than last year right?

Are you suggesting the current head coach hasn’t played a part in the current situation for the team?

How was he suggesting that in his post. Looks like he was pointing out the deficiencies that contributed to where we are now. I don’t think he is defecting blame from a former coach. There is a land field full of blame to go around.
