What if? The Derek Dooley Story

Dooley was a more likable guy who probably admits he screwed up his time at Tennessee while Butch on the other hand comes across as petty and arrogant.

He believed “his” expectations were good enough for the program and that’s what cost him his job.
I'd say that's probably true. DD has said he screwed some things up at Tennessee, although he does get real defensive when you question his signing of zero O-linemen in whichever recruiting class that was. Meanwhile Butch said at 2017 SEC Media Days that "2016 wasn't a disappointment." Butch probably thinks he did a great job here outside of the 2017 season. Thing is, he's partially right - I actually think he did do a pretty good job here 2016.

Sure they do. It will sell about as well as "the Holly Warlick Story" or "the greatness of Jerry Green". Only difference is they both lasted longer than Dooley.
It could be in a collection with "A Season With Lane Kiffin" or "The Butch Jones Era At Tennessee";)

I don’t think any coach (maybe) under the old administration could succeed.

It has been a deeper issue and hopefully one that having Fulmer as AD will fix.

id definitely take DD over Butch
Why? Butch did win 9 games twice and was 3-0 in bowl games with a win over Florida and two wins over Georgia. We were ranked in the top 10 the week after the Georgia game in 2016. Dooley never won a game of any consequence at all while at Tennessee. They both left us in a garbage dump... at least Butch took the scenic route along the way.

Great football is built on great coaching. UT's coaching since Fulmer has sucked to high heaven.

Let me get this straight. Tie game vs. Missouri. Tyler Bray is the QB with Justin Hunter and Cordarelle Patterson at WR and you decide to take a knee and go to overtime and win with the worst D in the history of the program. That decision told me all I needed to know. I had given him the benefit of the doubt UNTIL THAT decision. I have no doubt he is probably a good man and good coordinator but I gave up on him as HC then.

I don't remember which class it was but Dooley didn't sign a single offensive lineman in one his classes. That really hurt us later. Things such as that, lead me to believe that he just wasn't ready to be the head coach of a major college program.

Butch was also at the helm when the Vols lost 8 games in a season and went winless in the SEC for the first time ever. DD or Butch? Is like asking Herpes or syphilis?

Their last seasons were about the same. We did win an SEC game in Dooley's last season (2012), but that was with Chaney as an interim vs Kentucky.
