What if? The Derek Dooley Story

Guys, I want you all to just hear me out as this opening line may shock you. If Derek Dooley never would have been fired Tennessee would be a perennial powerhouse with at least two national championships under his regime right now. Some of you may wonder what brand of meth I am on. I assure you its nothing but good ole oxygen and water in this body. Let me at least cite 1-2 of the many reasons why this is a fact. If Derek Dooley was never fired we would have been scoring with the best of teams in the SEC. Just look at what Missouri has been doing since he took the OC position there. Meaning we would have never seen the like of Mike "cuck" Deboard or Tyson Helton. That alone is worth a few wins in itself. We would have also had stability and discipline. Derek Dooley was a hardnose, smashmouth coach who didn't take crap from anyone. He made the players learn everything from shower techniques to proper alignment on the field. The program was trending in an upward direction as Dooley hit the dusty trail. Butch didn't inherit a mess, unlike Donald Trump. Butch inherited a team of well rounded athletes that were prime for a title run and pissed it away. Derek Dooley catches a lot of heat for the time he spent here. I am here to say that was unjust and we should be apologetic to him. Derek Dooley, I appreciate your greatness and the amazing things you did during your tenure at Tennessee.

If Derek Dooley was here, we would still be watering the bamboo.

Barbara,
You're not fooling anyone with the "Dadly" in your name. Your son was exposed. He will NEVER be a D1 head coach again. He was justifiably fired and should have never been hired here. Move on with life.

I'm not into the drug trade, especially not meth. But, are there different brands of meth?

I do see a point to this, in all seriousness. If you remember, that '12 season was racking up some major and "high" points on the scoreboard. It was just that the defense was allowing more!

I feel like I’m getting punked reading this post but I will agree with your statement:
“Some of you may wonder what brand of meth I am on.”

He is probably overall better since the Pro stint but he is still not HC material in SEC. His OC skills may be tested this year , Bryant was not great behind one of the best OL in football. We shall see how this works out this year.

Barbara that you???

Dooley probably never would’ve lost 8 games in a season but never should’ve been hired in the first place. He couldn’t manage a winning record at la tech what makes anyone think he could at UT??

Check out the number of players drafted in 15 and 16 from Dooley's last 2 recruiting classes.
None, as in Nada!

I am assuming you forgot the blue font but if you are serious then I do not believe there is a drug available for your delusion. Dooley could not win in the WAC, was a horrible game manager, assembled a great offense in year three but forgot that defense wins championships, he did not welcome former VFLs with open arms, was too busy looking for Rommel, was worse than Butch Jones, & Opportunity is still nowhere with that walking doofus. BTW, Missouri has won jack squat and still has won jack squat with Dooley as OC. I don’t blame Dooley for taking the job and getting paid but if our ADMIN was competent back then, he would have never been hired to begin with.

I agree to a point. I believe the offense would have been fine under. My general thought is, Dooley was a Defensive Coordinate away from probably still being our coach.

Not defending Butch he inherited a mess. How many O-Lineman did Dooley recruit his final 2 years at Tennessee. He may be a good OC but HC no. Many coaches are great position coaches but not at running a program. Tennessee shouldn’t have Beverly gored a coach that had 1 winning season prior to coming to UT. He had stability at LA Tech where he was the HC and AD and still couldn’t win in a weaker conference. So what makes you think he could come here and win when he had never been a winning HC?

By accounts, he built a lot of resentment within the AD. Basically didn't get along with folks. And I don't think he's all that great as an OC. He made some dumb game-time decisions and had clock management skills. At Missouri, he arrived at the right time with the personnel they had. Let's see what happens 2-3 more years down the road. Right now, it appears he's lucked into another fine QB transfer and some player who work hard for their HC. He wasn't doing so great at the college we hired him from at the time. He's had since leaving here, a bit of mounty luck.

Hell Ms. Dooley and I will say your husband is not head coach material and I will not apologize for his inability to run a top tier program.

What was so great about his time here at Tennessee? How many SEC East titles he win? How many games did he win? How many conference titles did he win? How many national champs he win? And don’t get me started on the defense!!! If you answer all the question honestly you will see there was nothing great or good about his time here!!!!!

DD was a promoted to a level of incompetency, his recruiting classes would have been a abysmal. Too many "ifs and buts" in your theory.
