What has to happen for TN to beat Florida?

Tennessee wins if they run the ball well, they don't commit turnoers, and the defense keeps UF under 300 yards of total offense. 200 yards rushing and 0 turnvers = a win for the vols or at least a damn close game.

No one thought UT would move the ball AT ALL in the 2001 game. That was one of UF's best defenses, EVER, and UT had like 8 million rushing yards.

This will be a big change up for Florida in week three. They've played two pansy-a** spread teams that they've physically dominated, and now someone is going to actually come right out from the first snap and hit them, HARD.

I think UF wins, but I think UT can keep this one respecatble as long as Crompton doesn't have a melt down.

Just remember. UF had 6 fumbles yesterday against Troy State...

You are laying it on really thick with the patronizing nonsense.

Actually an earlier poster was right that UT didn't play horribly against Florida last year. I remember some people saying that Florida was only pressing the gas halfway after jumping out to a nice lead, but I cannot see Florida ever taking their foot off the gas on us.

What killed us were special teams early. Wasn't it like one return for a td and one close to a td?

In any case, if we have any chance at all, we need special teams to play out of their head. Long returns, blocked punts, forced turnovers. All of it.

Defense we stand a chance, offense we may be able to run the ball a little, possibly spring a big one, but if we can create something on special teams and stop florida from making big runs on punts, we may keep it close.

If our tackling on ST is poor, it will be over early.

heres how we win... our d plays amazing holds UF to 10 points.... i know its highly unlikely but with a few timely turn overs( picks in the endzone etc.) it could be done... we run the play we ran against them in whatever year we lost 21-20 (2005?) and score our only TD on that play.... we get a big return to set up one FG and Crompton comes thru (somehow) in the waning moments to get us in FG range and Lincoln nails a 50 yarder as time expires ( a la James Wilhoit) this is our only chance realistically

o btw the play i was referring to was the fake handoff end around with the reciever throwing back to the wide open running back for a touchdown!

We need Crompton to start shaking his helmet back and forth like a bobblehead doll() as soon as he says "hut". This will help with the telegraphing passes. That's a start.

Seriously, I hope the way Kiffin had his back, left him in the game, and took blame will help out his confidence enough to make him serviceable. He needs to realize he's got nothing to lose. He's hit rock bottom and kept digging.

Well, to beat Florida we'd have to simply play lights-out on every facet of the game, plus have the Gators make a few mistakes. Florida isn't completely unbeatable, but it'd take our full effort and then some to come home with the win.

1. Limit turnovers--this year's UCLA game and last year's UF game are shining examples. Don't fumble the football and don't let Crompton throw passes longer than 8+ yards (if even that long!).

2. Special Teams play--in last year's game Florida's special teams danced all around us on the field (i.e. the punt returned for a touchdown). We must contain them.

3. Field Position--I fully believe our Defense can slow down the Gators offense if not forced to defend a short field. That's what killed us in last year's game, as well. We must protect good field position by doing points 1 & 2 above--not committing turnovers and playing good special teams. Give our woeful offense a short field to put up some points and make the Gators earn their points by driving it down our D.

4. Pound the Rock--we MUST strongly assert the run game if we wish to have a chance. Hardesty and Brown must continue to punish defenders and fight for the tough yards while wearing down the D. Run, run, run, and pass only if we must.

5. Safe Pass Plays--regardless if Crompton or Stephens plays we can only do quick, safe pass plays that involve VERY little thinking if we wish to have a serviceable offense. Like point #4, we should only pass when needed. Hot routes to TEs, quick slants to WRs, play action with roll-outs and dump-offs to the FB and RB. Pass just enough to keep the Gator D honest and keep the run game open.

6. Play Physical--I feel our Defense is much more physical than the Gators offense, but I also feel our offense is going to get owned unless we come out and out-muscle the Gators on the line of scrimmage. The Gators should have a tough time up the middle on our D, but our ends may be vulnerable due to their speed--have to hope Berry and Jackson can fly around the LOS enough to bring down their speedsters. On offense, our O-Line needs to help out Hardesty and Brown and hold their blocks at least long enough for our RBs to make it through the hole.

7. Smart Defense--we need to shut down the run, and contain the pass. Don't make stupid mistakes and penalties that prolong drives. Make good adjustments and bring pressure. Another key here is, again, field position. Make the Gators drive 75+ yards for their points and we can make it a game. Give it to them at midfield or better, and it'll be a long, long day for the Vols defense.

Positive Forecast:
Vols-21
Gators- 17

Negative Forecast:
Vols-10
Gators-31

For tn to win in swamp....
1). Take in the atmosphere like UCLA did at Neyand to us...match the intensity and show Fl we didn't come to be intemidated.
2). Eric Berry and Montario Hardnesty have the games of their lives. Hardesty has to rush for a 100 and Berry has to score on defense like he did in the swamp last time.
3). We score and rush the endzone like Georgia did against FL 2 years ago...again match the intensity
4). Special teams special teams......we need to score on special teams
5). Crompton has to manage the game....not make spectacular passes but not turn the ball over and keep our guys up all game.
6). Let Fl get to confident like we did against UCLA and hope they fall flat on there faces.

If their entire team gets swine flu and can't play.

or

crompton gets swine flu and can't play.

Either way our odds are better.

benching crompton is going to give us a win. Taking him out and putting Stephens in is only going to give us what started last year......He has to fight through this. Its how players get better. Yes he had 4 turnovers last week and everyone thinks he lost the game but thats not the case. anyone who has ever played football knows its a team sport. win or loose. We dropped 2 crucical 3 down passes that were good throws in the game. O line was poor on pass protection. We lost the game by one yard basically.
