What happened to Boo?

"Nobody expects Boo to be here next year," said Price. "And the fact he didn't play a defensive snap against Oklahoma tells me his status with the defensive staff. Now, he was back there for punts....But Josh Heupel pointed out in his press conference that they had a couple of line drive [punts] that basically Boo elected to fair catch and not return that he could have returned. And I'd say there's some frustration there.
"Listen, if you're not gonna play him on defense, I wouldn't have him return punts. Because ultimately, he's not very happy. And Tennessee wasn't very happy with his effort at Kentucky. Boo earned his stripes last year through his play. This year, he decided to go AWOL in July, he had to go through some stuff off the field to be back on this football team, [and he] still had some minor hiccups behind the scenes. And this staff has kind of stuck with him, even with him kind of coming off the bench - he's not been very good. And if he's not going to be zoned in, locked in, and be willing to do the little things, then I don't think you can trust him to do the little things out there in a big game in the Swamp or at home against Vanderbilt. So for me, if I'm the coach, I'm going in a different direction at this point in time. But that's me."

He had to make up WEEKS of workouts and wasn't allowed to dress out or practice until he made all of them up in addition to other things as laid out by coach and the leadership council. Did you not pay attention during the offseason? He also lost his starting position. You guys are just looking for any reason to be upset at the coaches right now. Admit it. It's Heupel's job to keep the locker room under control and when the other players want to give him a chance, how do you think kicking him off of the team would go? Especially a month before the season starts with no opportunity to bring in a transfer

Don't act like this. The one thing that Heupel has always been good at is keeping the locker room together. It is echoed throughout every player interview when talking about coach.
I agree with your take. Extra workouts are a punishment as old as time for athletes. You work out with the team then get the "extra" work to make up for your mistakes.

Back when dinosaurs were still around and I played the coaches would make you do sprints for mistakes in the game. Missed tackles, fumbles, out of alignment.... It was not fun....

Heuple post game comments he said they were 2 line drive punts that Boo could have returned but did not. He ended his playing D in the KY game and demoted to just punt returns and now I believe ended his playing days here with the OK game. I would be surprised if he sees the field rest of the season, and for good reasons. He is gone now.
Agree. And I said before - but can’t confirm- he is supposedly missing practices and/or workouts. We will never know as most of the players are tight lipped. But they are over Boo. I’d let him sit the bench rest of yr. He isn’t giving us anything on the field. He doesn’t care.

I mean, say whatever you will about his coaching, but the guys health is genuinely terrible. He’s had blood clots, toes amputated, and his bladder removed. He’s not faking it whatsoever.
His health is horrible and it’s hard to see a guy like him go through that stuff. Saw him play with SF at Atlanta in 94 and lived watching that dude. His health issues are very real and the fact he’s endured it while having that job is crazy. However, his health issues are also an easy out for both parties without admitting failure.

Back in the day when I was a professional HS football hopefull, running staduim steps in your cleats was punishment, and was always effective.

Watching Joey Peterson today, he said Boo's mom posted something in effect that they would be gone in 2 months and unreachable. He also pointed out that Boo fair catched 2 punts with no one within 15 yards of him(OK game) and the lack of effort in the UK game. He states that he thinks Boo should be cut from the team. IF all of this is true, then why wait 2 months. All I can say is........

I think he’s just throwing a fit about not being used in the offense.
The face of the guy that pissed that away is in his mirror. This ain’t high school, Boo.

Boo was no better, probably not as good, on offense in high school as Staley or Matthews.. Opponents WRs have no problem blowing by him last year or this year. What makes people think he’s the next Rocket Ismail?

Exactly!!! Heupel is getting exactly what he allowed.
Kids can be redeemed and turn into contributors. Let’s not act like that cannot happen.

However it’s clear Heupel has had enough. Boo just doesn’t seem to care anymore and has checked out.

In addition the team captains have to be a contributing factor. We all talk about coaches, but many former players have talked about how important it is to have accountability within the leaders on the team to push everybody.

They can’t hit the door fast enough.

Unfortunately with Boo, anyone who knows the chronology also knows sharing private information about a player is a big no-no. I’ll just say that a whole lot of this isn’t of his making. No doubt, he needs a fresh start somewhere else. At this point, reversing the narrative probably won’t happen. He’s made some mistakes. He’s also faced some challenges, injuries and setbacks that just aren’t his fault at all. The reporters who comment on this can say “Read what you want from him not playing” but can’t discuss the “why”. I think we’re at a moment where everyone knows it’ll be better for him to start anew at a different place. That said, this one has been complicated, and dumping it all on him isn’t fair. The kid, when healthy, is an absurdly talented athlete. An enormous part of his struggle could’ve been remedied by better communication. Unfortunately when various situations became pitched that channel didn’t work. It’s definitely not as simple as “he’s a bad kid”. If you’ve been (or had) a kid who faces complications you know that messes compound quickly. I don’t think it would be fair to fault Willie, Banks or Heupel as they’ve always wanted the best for Boo. He missed time, got behind and never caught up with all the new learning. Fault is probably irrelevant. It’s been a sticky ball of string for awhile.

This is too much, don't care how talented one COULD be, when you don't care about your team you got to go so see you, go be a giant pian somewhere else

Coaches never should have let him return. Hopefully they learn from that mistake. We can talk about his upbringing and family and lack of facing adversity, but our coaches did the exact same thing. He goes and pouts and skips out on the team for a month and our coaches have zero consequences for him. They just let him back on the team and probably gave him a nice pay raise.
Didn’t happen like that but whatever you need to tell yourself. Coaches and the team’s leadership make the decisions on who gets to come back and what they need to do to be back. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. J. Jennings was at one time about to be kicked off the team as well.

When you recruit kids you understand they do need to mature sometimes. That said I agree with you that it’s past time for him to go now.
